So, I'm going to try something different I think. Normally I just toss out a lot of vague ideas and let roleplayers contact me if any of them interest them, but that hasn't seemed to yield very reliable results. I can't tell very well if the roleplayer will actually be on the same wavelink as me without knowing if our writing styles match, and the only way I can do that is by seeing the way they write.

Thus, I'd like to give a single story here that I want to work on with someone. I'll explain the concept, then give my first post for the story. If you find that you like it and might be interested in working on it with me, respond to my portion of the roleplay below. If I think writing with you on this particular story will work for us both, I will PM you and we can move our posts into an actual thread and continue.

Rules of the game:
Serious roleplayers only, please. Respond if you like the story and actually want to work on it with me, and if you can commit to replying at least once a week. I need someone who can keep up, and who is a decent writer who can add to the story. Male characters only, if the MxM in the title didn't make that obvious. No character sheet needed: I like finding out about a character the same way I would when meeting someone knew... a little at a time.

Story: Our characters were perfectly normal people, carrying out perfectly normal lives with typical, boring jobs. They had never even met, until one day they both found themselves in a busy street when an accident occurred. Both reacted at the same time, trying to shove a little girl out of the way of an oncoming car. They managed to work together in that split second to shove the girl to safety, but both lost their lives in the process. The next thing they knew, they were suddenly in another world. A fantasy world, it seemed. A kingdom ruled by a king who proclaimed them the realm's heroes. Apparently legend spoke of their appearance, and they have been summoned to the world in order to protect it from a demonic presence that wishes to wipe out all life. And the king believes in the prophesy, insisting that the two band together and set out to fight the demon and its many monstrous minions. It turns out that the land is very much like a video game: leveling up is a main priority for our characters. They start out at very low levels, but most people in the land are even weaker since dying is not something that is reversible in this world. No one wants to risk their lives to become stronger when they cannot be resurrected. Our characters must decide to become the heroes of the land, or resign themselves to die along with everyone else when the demon comes to wipe life out of existence.

My Starter: Leigh was always shy. Always a bit afraid that if he spoke up, stated his own opinions, that he would be wrong, or that others would laugh at him. He doubted his own thoughts a lot. It didn't help that he felt so plain. Brown hair, brown eyes, average build, average in every way, really. There was nothing at all about him that was worth mentioning, to his mind. Even the life he lived seemed so dull... He woke up each morning, went through the routine of getting ready for work, grabbed breakfast on the way, spent what seemed like every day at a mundane office job, and then went home and spent his time cooking, watching some television, went to bed early so he could do it all again the next day. He'd given up on anything else a long time ago.

So when the day came that quick action was needed... perhaps it was only a fluke that he stepped in so swiftly. He noticed the two cars collide a little before most others, that was pure chance. And leaping forward to save the little girl who was directly in the path of one of the skidding vehicles? Well, he didn't have time to think. Only react. Maybe that was what spurred him to risk his own life. He wasn't thinking.

He remembered... someone made it to her first. Someone faster. But they couldn't quite manage to push her completely out of danger in that split second, only to shove her in Leigh's direction. And Leigh, in turn, caught the girl's wrist and used his own momentum to sling her toward the crowd of people nearby, hoping one of them would catch her. She made it out of the way, he knew that much. But that relief was cut off sharply by the crash of pain and the sound of metal crunching all around him.

Almost instantly, though, the intense pain seemed to recede, as did the world around him. It became... something else. A large, stone room, a fire blazing in an old fireplace. A man sitting on a... was that a throne? Hell, he was even wearing a crown... The... king? He was talking to him.. to them. The other man, the one who had helped him rescue the girl, was standing beside him. Only Leon wasn't quite sure how he knew it was the same man. It was like he had seen him there for an instant, knew who he was, but the man's appearance was different now. And glancing into a nearby mirror, Leon noticed that he himself looked very different as well. His brown hair was now black and fell slightly past his shoulders in an unkempt style, green eyes much more vivid and striking than he could have imagined. There also seemed to be a dark patch of scales across his cheek for some reason... he didn't even look truly human anymore... What a weird dream.

He listened in shock to the king speak. Leon only caught snitches. Something about some prophecy that foretold of them coming here, and some great evil they were supposed to fight. It all seemed a little too much like a fantasy game or a television show to be real. Nothing seemed real. He didn't even bother to question it, he just played along. He'd wake up soon, probably in a hospital bed or something, and all of this would be a dream. Right?

A little later the king had servants take them to a large bedroom where they could rest, he said. More problems. There was only one large bed, for instance. Leigh sighed at his own dream. Apparently his imagination was so flawed that he could only dream up one bedroom to accommodate two grown men.

He didn't overthink it though. "I'll take one of the pillows and a blanket and sleep by the fire," he sighed, already heading to steal said items from the lavish bed. "Maybe if I fall asleep quickly I can wake up back in my own body soon. I can't wait for this nightmare to be over.."

Okay, I love this..? So, here's me taking a stab at it. I really hope to hear from you soon!

Syd was a natural-born leader. He embodied charisma and confidence, projecting an authority that drew people towards him. He had a ruthless level of rationality; using his drive, determination, and sharp mind to get what he wanted. He tended to overwhelm those who were timid and sensitive. With his icy blue eyes and perfectly disheveled brown hair, his appearance alone was enough to intimidate those around him. He was a true powerhouse, and he cultivated an image of being larger than life. He did not believe in the impossible, so he would often plan his days out in advance. With a vision for the day, he could move forward with purpose.

Nothing could have prepared him for that accident, though. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as the two vehicles collided and skid across the blacktop, heading in the direction of a young girl. He moved as quickly as his shocked body would let him, dropping his briefcase and lunging towards the girl. He felt his ankle twist as he tripped, but the adrenaline pumping through his body numbed the pain. Falling forward he pressed his fingers into the little girl's back and shoved her forward, hoping it was enough to get her to safety.

Another man was there, on the other side of the girl. He grabbed her wrist and tossed her into a crowd, and a couple of bystanders caught her. She was safe. Syd smiled with relief, knowing that they had saved her. He wanted to stand, but his ankle was now throbbing. There was no chance of him getting away from the car as it rolled on top of him.

Everything was white for a few seconds, until Syd was suddenly standing in what appeared to be a medieval castle. The walls were lined with beautiful handsewn tapestries, and light poured in through intricate stained glass windows. A man sat in a large throne in front of him, a golden crown atop his head. He spoke of a prophecy — of two heroes that would save realm. That's when Syd looked to his right and saw another man. It was the man that helped him save the young girl. He looked different, but Syd could definitely tell that it was him. Suddenly, Syd was very aware of his own appearance. He felt different; his hair was longer, and his body was larger. He was taller than he was before, and his muscles felt bulkier.

Syd didn't believe in the impossible, but this... This had to have been a dream. An extremely realistic, detailed dream. One with kings, demons, sword fights, and adventure. Syd hadn't had a dream like this since he was a boy. How odd it was that he was having one now. Not knowing what else to do, he decided to embrace it.

Syd and the other man were led to their chambers, and Syd was suddenly aware of how tired he felt. The large bed looked so comfortable that Syd didn't even question the fact that there was only one. The other man didn't seem so keen on the idea of sharing, though. Syd shrugged as the other man took a pillow and blanket, stating that he would sleep by the fire.

Syd climbed into the bed, letting out a satisfied groan as he wrapped himself up in a silky sheet. "Suit yourself," he said, stretching his limbs out and yawning. "I'll see you in the morning, then. Seems like we've got quite the adventure ahead of us."
