My name is Silas Oakley. I am nineteen years old, and I'm an cerviform—a buck, or a 'deer-boy'. I was born and raised in Evergreen City, and now I'm a student at the local Taxanomi University, studying criminal justice to become a detective. I also am a volunteer for a civil rights group trying to improve herbivore-carnivore relations, and I work part-time for the Parks Service.
And about two weeks ago, someone killed me.
I was walking alone in the Walder National Forest, as I usually do on summer evenings, when suddenly everything just went blank. I woke up just before sunrise the next day, covered in my own blood and gore, with a splitting headache and my backpack missing. I went home, telling no one about what happened, and returned the next day to investigate. I found no clues at all except for the bullet lodged into the tree, the one I was looking at right before I was shot through the head.
Oh, and yeah—I guess I'm immortal now, too. I'm really not trying to test the limits of it though, because getting hurt still… well, hurts. I'm not a ghost or anything though, so don't worry, I guess.
Nobody else knows about this. Things have been happening in this town for a long time, bad and strange things. Some of which were written down in the notebooks that were stolen along with my backpack. I need to find out who killed me, and who took my things, so I can figure out what is happening here and stop people from being hurt.
The list of people I trust gets shorter and shorter every day. The police are dogged (heh) by corruption, all my professors are withdrawn and secretive, and everywhere I look I find more skeletons in people's closets, and more things that people want to keep hidden. Even my own family isn't above suspicion.
But I do trust you. I've been watching you over the last… well, it doesn't matter, because I know you have nothing to hide. We may or may not be friends or even strangers, but I know I can't solve the mysteries of this place alone.
I know this is a lot to take in, but honestly, I'm starting to get desperate. I'm getting nowhere fast, and I get the sense that we're running out of time.
The weather is getting colder… Can you help me?
Hey there folks, dispatch here! I had a random idea that latched onto my brain of an urban fantasy / supernatural mystery story taking place in a small American forest city populated by animal people—some of which are starting to develop mysterious, hidden powers. Of course, the mystery starts with Silas' "murder", but it goes much deeper and spreads much further than that…
Because I amso tired and because I enjoy solving mysteries too, this will be very much a multipolar RP: people are encouraged to bring their own plots to make it as tangled and interesting as possible.
As for the "animal people", I haven't decided if that means all the characters will be Kemonomimi ("animal ears", human except for a few surface features) or Anthropomorphic (what is usually meant by "furry"). Either way I think it would be fun to have this story in that sort of genre for aesthetics and characterization, but let me know what you guys would prefer.
Let me know what y'all think, and if this gets interest, I'll start posting character apps and drafting an OP!
