I absolutely love the Bridgerton show and the nuances of the society of the ton, but I want to play something that explores the darker side of the patriarchy. I have a couple ideas:
1) a new Duke or Lord comes to court and he's immediately the talk of the ton. He's handsome, charismatic, silver-tongued, and knows how to make the women swoon. My character isn't swayed in the least seeing him as arrogant and narcissistic. Naturally, this draws him in more toward her seeing her as a conquest. He begins to sabotage any other hopes she has of being courted until he is the only option left. With her family's pressure, and not wanting to be a laughing stock in society, she reluctantly agrees to his courting. He surprises her by being gentle and loving and the opposite of everthing she'd imagined him to be...until the wedding night. Now, with her as his property, he intends to make her realize that she belongs to him and only him.
2) My character is getting older and hasn't found any prospects due to being headstrong and fully against the idea of marriage and having her value measured by how wealthy her husband is. Her family is running into debt after debt and they risk being thrown down to the poverty level if they can't secure a match for her. They reach out to neighboring cities and find someone... He's a bit older, but rumored to be cold and strict. Before she can disagree, she's shipped off to live with this man in a pre-arranged engagement settled by her parents and his.
