Afternoon Sanctum,
Quick announcement to address an issue that has come up recently.
We've noticed a number of users who have taken to adding their character images to every single roleplay post as context. To be short and sweet: Do not do this.
Images are, put simply, orders of magnitude larger to store than text. A single image can easily be one megabyte. That same megabyte in text form would be enough to store a hundred and fifty thousand words.
This is not a no-images policy. Using images in your character thread is fine. Using a single image in your first post of a thread or as an occasional reference for a location, outfit or new character is fine. I will emphasize occasional. Where it becomes an issue is when every single post contains the exact same image for no reason. Or every post contains a number of images for everything that happens to be referenced. From this point forward, that will be treated as a form of spam and extra images removed.
This policy also only applies to images uploaded to the site. External media links are not hosted on our servers; these are not an issue. Likewise if you wish to include a link to an image in a character thread. That only uploads the image once.
I will also use this as a chance for your semi-annual reminder and a heads-up for new members that we do occassionally purge any conversation attachments more than a year old, as these images are rarely relevant in the long term and often include things like unused faceclaims or no longer needed reference images. If you want to keep your reference images or character sheets, please do so in the Characters and Worlds forum, which is not deleted.
Other housekeeping: Imgur, an external image host we have recommended in the past, is now banned in the UK and images linked from it are not viewable by users there. For anyone for whom this might be a problem, it might be worth it to try https://lensdump.com/ or Postimages — free image hosting / image upload.
If you have any questions, as always, happy to answer them.
