Age (current): 27
Height: 6'2"
Magic or Mantra:
- Cui- A lifetime of training under Azamos gave Jayce the ability to tune in to the world around him. Through this he is able to detect any type of movement within sixty paces in all directions from himself. If he fine tunes his mantra, he can make out details and find secrets in the world that were meant to be hidden. At full concentration, his detection pierces through walls, floors and ceilings.
- Current Grade: A, Potential Grade: S+
Unique Abilities:
- Awareness- Through years of practice and close mentoring from Azamos, Jayce is able to unconsciously hold a constant state of Cui that extends to about five paces around him.
- Recognition- Thanks to Cui, Jayce learned how to pick up on specific movements on certain people. With enough time spent with someone, he can pick out their footsteps and eventually even their specific patterns of breathing and differentiate them from others.
- Locksmith- When you have a way to see through objects, no lock is complicated enough to stop your advance. Some locks just take longer to crack.
- Physical Specimen- Having had trained his ability to heave himself up over an obstacle before he could talk, Jayce's athletic ability is on an echelon of its own. His stamina is inhuman and his ability to push through pain is unreal.
- Combat Pro- Learning faster than others, Jayce seemed to be born with a gift for violence. Couple that with exclusive training from one of the most dangerous men on the planet and Jayce grew into force to be reckoned with, taking on full grown and practiced men as early as the age of seven. He's proficient in a multitude of weapons but favors the combination of a short sword and dagger. He has also mastered a few hand-to-hand martial arts.
- Field Medic- While not a doctor or surgeon by any means, Jayce knows his way around a needle and has stitched himself shut plenty of times.
Occupation (current): ex-assassin, ex-bounty hunter, current fugitive
Title(s): The Black Reaper
Appearance: Jayce stands above most men at 6'2 with a body that's been sculpted and worn from years of constant action. Set under thick eyebrows are hazel-colored eyes that have a hint of yellow mixed in, making the overall color reminiscent of honey. His black, wavy locks frame his face and fall to the nape of his neck, just above his shoulders. His face is blessed with a square jaw that lines to a strong cleft chin. On the left side of his face, a few inches from his mouth, is a vertical scar that runs down to the middle of his neck. Scars map around his body from years of hard living.
Face Claim:
Personality: In his younger years, Jayce was a cold and ruthless killer who showed very little emotion. His body was devoid of feeling, something he needed in order to succeed as an assassin. As he grew and got older, he found that there was more to life than just taking it. Now, he is a cunning man who tries to negotiate through situations before relying on his terrifying skills. He laughs a lot to make up for the years he couldn't and feels genuine empathy for others. Due to his past, he tries desperately to remove himself from the "Black Reaper", but more often than not the nickname catches up with him. With most people he seems free of guilt and always in a jovial mood. Upon closer inspection, one would see the layers of guilt and the incessant want to prove that he's become a better person.
Background:
Jayce was only a few months old when he was brought into the Black Covenant, a world renowned and feared assassin's guild. Exactly how Jayce was discovered by the guild is a mystery to most, even the upper echelon of the guild. No matter the case, they brought him in and Jayce had become the youngest Black Covenant member that ever existed. Even as a baby, Jayce was not spared the harsh and grueling treatment that trained the young boys of the guild into weapons. Everyone earned their spot there or died trying. Age mattered little.
At just ten years old, Jayce had earned the right to apprentice under Azamos, the guildmaster, through the Fair Trials. It was a test that was given members in their late teen years who were selected by and agreed upon by the Fingers, the five captains of the Black Covenant. Azamos, however, circumvented this process and personally selected him at a young age. Before the test, whispers of favoritism abounded about Jayce, but he didn't care. Even at a young age, he was well aware that Azamos had chosen him for a reason. He wasn't going to prove his master wrong. After the Fair Trials had finished and he were victorious, the rumors of favoritism faded just as quickly as they had started.
The Fair Trials also brought out a new strength in Jayce, something in the form of a power that was as old as it was confusing. He had gained the mantra Cui, though he learned not of how he obtained it. All he knew was that it had activated right towards the end of his Fair Trials, right when he was about to die. At first, Jayce didn't understand what the power was but confided in Azamos as he knew better than to hide anything from his mentor. Azamos explained to Jayce what a mantra was and instructed him on ways to harness and improve the power of it. The adding training was brutal, but in a way different than the physical training regimen that he had grown accustomed to. For the first year after discovering his mantra, Jayce experienced intense headaches upon activation and nosebleeds that gave no sign as to what may have caused them. Over the years of his continued training, Jayce managed to get a hold on Cui and attained a level of understanding that impressed even Azamos.
In a life stained in blood and bonded with death, Jayce was a prodigy, earning his spot as a Finger in the Black Covenant at the ripe age of seventeen. While he was far younger than his compatriots and most of his underlings, no one dared to question his ability. The ways of the guild made it impossible to doubt him, as the only way to become a Finger was to kill one in open combat, for all to see. Jayce specifically remembered the glint in Azamos' eyes as he saw him stand victoriously over the previous Finger. It was a look that made Jayce feel like Azamos had known this were going to happen all along.
When he had turned eighteen, he was given a mission that forever changed his life, making him see the error in his ways. Deciding that he wanted more from his life, Jayce returned to the Black Covenant holdings where he requested a permanent leave from the guild. To do so, he had to complete the Dar'eth, a vicious life or death trial that was purposefully designed to ensure that no member ever walked away from the guild. To most everyone's surprise, Jayce completed the trial. After emerging victorious from the Dar'eth, Jayce was granted his freedom and went off to learn about the world from a different point of view.
Eight years later, Jayce has been living a successful life as a renowned bounty hunter. While killing hasn't entirely left his life, he is no longer leaving a trail of bodies wherever he goes and that's good enough for him.
