History
Born in Philadelphia, Morwen was a quiet yet adventurous youth who often found herself in small amounts of trouble. In an effort to curb the disturbances, the family moved up to Massachusetts to the port town of Boston. She was infatuated with the sea but other than dipping her toes in the water, she was never permitted to venture onto boats due to the belief of women being bad luck to sailors. Her mother attempted to make her a proper lady, but found it difficult to do with Morwen's adventurous nature. It would be when her mother found her sewing that a eureka moment happened. Morwen was dragged to the local seamstress where she was hired to mend clothing. She was proficient and neat with her stitches which brought a wide variety of business into the shop.
On a cool fall day in September of 1695, a gentleman wandered into the shop. She'd dealt with his type before; gruff, unshaven, tattooed. Pirates came into the shop frequently to have items repaired. He offloaded several bundles of clothes that had been freshly cleaned and asked for them to be completed in the week. It was three days later when he received word that his items were ready to be picked up. Exasperated, he stormed into the shop expecting to have been swindled. Instead, he found the clothes were neatly packaged and ready for transport. Impressed, he invited Morwtn for a drink with the intention known that it was merely for a chat.
Intrigued by the nature of piracy, the invitation was accepted. One drink turned into a job offer almost immediately, once it was learned that Morwen had skills mending all manner of fabrics. Her dream of finally exploring the sea was coming to fruition. Wide eyed and naive, she ventured aboard the Gallant and set her life to the sea.
Life wasn't easy on the boat. She found out that she was easily sea sick during her first six weeks aboard the ship though it settled soon after. While mending bedding, clothing, and the flag, she began to learn about piracy itself. The men eagerly explained their life over copious amounts of drinks that Morwen absorbed and forced into memory. Little by little, she found herself taking on new tasks aboard the ship and venturing away from merely being the seamstress.
For five years, she showed her mettle and tenacity while at sea. On numerous occasions she even used herself as bait to help raid ships. It didn't take long before she garnered herself a calling card. Known only as The Lady, her legend began to spread across the pirating world earning her admiration scorn alike.
During a particularly rough seas in the summer of 1699, their captain, and her dear friend, was swept overboard by a rogue wave. Morweny was on deck, tangled in rope, when she saw it happen. The man who brought her aboard his ship vanishing in the night along with several crewmates. Wasting no time, she took control of the ship and steered them to safety. Days later, a vote was taken to name The Lady as the new captain of The Gallant. A name that was changed soon after to represent and honor the name while also showcasing its new captain.
