Wren Zephyr | Rebel X-Wing Pilot - Blue Squadron

Age: 26
Height: 5'6"
Appearance:
Chestnut brown hair, cold green eyes, a splash of freckles along the bridge of her nose and cheekbones that contrast nicely with her warm skin. She has a naturally cold look in her eyes, calculating and distrusting. She has a husky laugh and her brows tend to naturally pinch together, restless. Wren mostly carries herself well, but if one were to look they could spot the slight hunch in her back. Whether it was from years living as a slave or being beaten one too many times, she would never say. A ragged white scar travels across the bridge of her nose at the diagonal. It matches nicely with the one that sits on the right side of her jaw and travels down across her throat, clean and with intention.

History:
[From Bracca to Nar Shaddaa to Yavin 4]

Wren never knew her parents, she was a Bracca orphan, bred from too much spotchka and a one time fling. There were many like her. It was a universal knowledge for the kids: start scrapping or off to the stocks. Wren's natural competitiveness was outshined by her sheer will to survive. And she was good. Most of the time, she made more than her quota, occasionally helping some of the other kids out. The thought of going to the stocks was a laughable notion to her, knowing she was too valuable as a scrapper. But when the buyers came, she was one of the many to be sold. And when she fought tooth and nail, even killing someone in the process, they seemed more willing to take her. Whether it was because of her ferocity or the fact she was fourteen and growing, she would never truly know.

For two years, she was a slave to the Hutts [Grakkus] on Nar Shaddaa. The time bore many nightmares and scars, both within and on her skin. Initially, she fought back, and rather violently at that. They had her drugged most of the time, sometimes even several doses throughout the day. Along with that, she was constantly chained to a guard. It took those two years to slowly build an immunity to the tranquilizer drug they had been using. Wren waited for the right time, killing her guard and making a rather boisterous attempt to flee. All she knew was that she was on Nar Shaddaa and she wanted to be anywhere but there. It was quite an attempt, taking numerous guards by surprise in the night. But unfortunately she was apprehended and left to rot in a cell for weeks with minimum food and water, if only to keep her breathing. They debated simply letting her starve to death, but the Hutts wanted a show. So, they threw her in the fighting pits, expecting her to quickly perish to one of their weaker regular fighters. But she prevailed. Again and again and again, she prevailed. And everyone loves an underdog story. But even though she became somewhat favored, she was still a slave, and still owned by the Hutts.

Wren survived those pits for eight years. As she grew older, stronger, and more calculated, they would pick her to run specific trade routes, mostly smuggled goods. It was simple guard duty, but the prospect of being off the moon was too great to turn down. It was her first run and she was itching with excitement. A simple task really: get the goods to Bracca and then return. The others were weary of her initially, but the orders had come directly from the Hutts. They were apprehended the minute they dropped out of hyperspace. A fleet from the Rebel Alliance had received a tip from a mole on Nar Shaddaa. Whatever cargo was being brought to Bracca was valuable enough to intercept and steal. Those on the Hutts' cargo ship were either captured or killed, Wren being one of the former. They held her as a prisoner until she was persuaded to join the Rebellion, eventually becoming a pilot. Deep down, Wren was simply relieved to be free of Nar Shaddaa, and whether or not a part of her still felt trapped as a pilot, she had never felt more free than in the cockpit of an X-Wing.

Appearance

Standing at 5' 4", Cordelia is very slight and somewhat boney, but she stands and walks with unnerving grace. Cordy has a warm complexion, and her skin is dotted with freckles and warm sunspots. These markings become more frequent and darken during the summer. There are faint laugh lines already beginning to form at the corner of her eyes. Her eyes are a vibrant green hazel, framed by long thick lashes. They are her most outstanding feature.

Cordy's hair is a thick honey brown with some lighter strands that golden up when she spends too much time in the sun. It is quite long, reaching her back. When home and not out in society or expecting visitors, Cordy tends to leave most of down, though some of it will remain tied back. Mostly though, she wears it up, either twisted into a low bun at the base of her head, or braided and then pinned into a platt. She does have quite a few face framing pieces that tend to frizz slightly due to the ocean air.

---- PERSONA START ----

Personality

When surrounded by close friends and family, Cordy has a sweet temperament. She genuinely enjoys knowing a person, making her a good listener and quite thoughtful when gift giving or offering words of comfort or encouragement. When Cordy is meeting new people, and her overall nature when out in public, she is fairly quiet and tends to keep to herself unless intentionally pursued. She is never cold, but rather guarded and observant when first making acquaintances. Cordy makes it a point to stick in groups or public areas, never allowing herself to be caught alone with anyone. *

---- ROW 1 START ----

Loves⠀✦

Being outside, walks, discovering a new place either in town or while walking, reading, playing pianoforte, and spending time with close friends and family.

Hates⠀✦

Isolation, cold weather, conflict and tension, spying on others, and being put on the spot.

---- ROW 1 END ----

---- ROW 2 START ----

Strengths⠀✦

Cordy is good at keeping a well checked face, aside from her blushing, and usually able to hide how she is feeling. She handles herself well and respectfully at social outings. Though quite slight and not at all athletic looking, Cordy has immense stamina and can walk and/or run for a good distance if needed. Due to her Leyline, she has sharp ears and an even sharper gaze, though more recently she has made attempts to abstain from using such abilities in public. Finally, Cordy has a fantastic memory and retains information quickly.

Weaknesses⠀✦

Cordy is rather terrible at fixing or attempting to reconcile relationships where conflict has taken place. Her natural instinct is to flee and then to avoid any opportunity that would result in further disagreement. She also becomes frustrated and angry quite easily, usually when others pressure something that she disagrees with. She can usually tell when someone is trying to manipulate her or persuade her, and though her mother has told her countless times to retain control and let it roll off the soldier, Cordy has always been a more emotional person.

Habits⠀✦

Cordy rises early and always opens the windows in her room. She tends to absentmindedly wring her fingers and hands when in conversation which is why her mother always told her to carry a book. When in deep thought or doing a task such as practicing drawing or needlework, she tends to hum to herself. Cordy has a habit of always taking a different route when taking her walks (she normally goes once a day).

Goals⠀✦

Cordy wants to please her parents as well as live up to the reputation of the Wren name. She does not realize it at first, but Cordy will come to a point where she will agree to anything to uphold the family standing. She never had a chance to honor her Leyline, and a part of her blames herself for her sister's disappearance. She thinks if she had been there, she could have changed things. Biography

—⠀House Wren

The great Wren family has been present in Europe for ages, stretching to the west when the New World was discovered. Initially, when the Leyline evolved into the avian transfiguration it is known for today, the family was blackmailed into service for royals and nobles alike, all for the same reason: information. Forced to become spies for anything a blackmailer desired, the name Wren slowly grew in its reputation and desire for anybody who wanted the upper hand. What began as the collection of mere gossip and house drama, soon turned to political intrigue. It was then that many Wrens began to disappear and they knew it was time to make a change.

Before the Hundred Years' War, the Wren family instituted contracts that would protect not only their lives, but also their reputation. This led to a life that was drastically divided into two: one part of espionage and secrecy, and the other of great reputation and sway within the noble society. It would never be outright spoken of by any of the Wrens, but their presence behind the curtains of great political and social events was well known. How, when and where, though, would never be known. Though the Wren family is well established and their reputation is great, it is well known that they keep their cards close to their chests and their secrets even closer. Any information shared from the mouth of a Wren must never be underestimated, for there is always a purpose.

---- ROW 1 END ----

---- ROW 2 START ----

Upbringing⠀✦

Cordy grew up in a country estate in Russia. Her mother, Tatiana, had grown up there since their direct line of Wrens were active during the Great Northern War. It was a quiet upbringing, filled with tutoring and the two sisters adventuring in the outdoors when they could. Their father, Arthur, traveled quite a bit, so the girls were at the estate with the governess and the staff most of the time. After Cordy had completed her transformation training, Arthur was quite persistent on moving the family to Elyria, partially for business and partially to present his daughters to the Elyrian society. Russia was quiet enough, and so Tatiana relented and the family made the move to Delmare. Cordy was presented into society at the start of a season when she was nineteen. Georgianna was twenty-two.

When the Rayan Coast Campaign began, the need for Wrens grew rapidly. Cordy fought to be involved, but eventually only Georgianna was allowed due to experience she gleaned from shadowing her mother in Russia. Because the Campaign was so violent, Cordy was hindered from shadowing her mother or sister, therefore she never properly learned how to spy when transformed. Weeks after the end of the Campaign, when the politics were barely beginning to settle and lose ends were being dealt with, Georgianna disappeared. It wasn't uncommon for such a thing to happen during times of war, but Cordy's mother, distraught, claimed it a horrible accident. Perhaps a predator had gotten to her. It was unwise for a Wren to claim assassination. It usually only brought more death. Having only been in Delmare three years, two of them war ridden, Arthur moved his wife and remaining daughter to the English countryside so they could work out their grief without watching eyes or quiet whispers following them.

Current Stakes⠀✦

Cordy is apprehensive of the move to Delmare. The last time she was there, she had her sister by her side. Now, she must face the season and society on her own. Both her parents wish her to marry. Whether it's because they want her to return to how she was before Georgianna, or to simply keep a good standing in society, she wouldn't know or even hope to guess. Currently, Cordy is apathetic to the idea of marriage. She finds herself apathetic to most things.

Avian Transfiguration⠀✦

This leyline manifests during the late teen years, though there can be some small signs at a younger age. Because it takes great energy and focus to actually transform, most Wrens do not let their children attempt the ability until the age of eighteen. Aside from the actual transformation, the abilities of heightened sight and hearing are also present. An inheritor of the Leyline, usually a female, has a small probability of being able to transform into an actual Wren bird. This is considered great luck and honor within the Wren lineage.

When transforming for the first time, it is a slow and painful process, that requires great energy. Everything from the bones to the tissue of the body must change shape, density, and color. The first transformation usually takes hours, and there are some records of it taking days. There are even rumors that some never lived through the first transformation, or achieved the great feat but didn't have the energy to change back, therefore slowly fading and remaining the creature forever. When an inheritor transforms once and then returns to their human form, they are then trained to do it again and again, before the process is quick, happening in a matter of seconds. But the pain never gets better. It is important to note that when one transforms, they leave all external pieces behind, such as jewelry and clothing. They transform back into human form in the nude, and must therefore always plan for a safe rendezvous point to do so.

Cordy transformed into a Sparrow at the age of eighteen. It was an eight-hour endeavor and the most excruciating moments of her life. Before that, she had a keen sense of hearing which manifested at the age of eight. Of course, as a child, she used that to her advantage and was an endearing annoyance to her family. After two months of consistent transforming, Cordy was able to do it in under five seconds. It was an excruciating five seconds, but the minute one transforms there is no residue of the pain. Her parents were proud of such an achievement, but were hesitant to allow her to use her Leyline for the family work.

Reputation⠀✦

Simply from being a Wren, most are usually apprehensive. But Cordy was active in society for three years beforehand, so anyone who knew her from then would have a differing view of her. More prominently, it would be known of Georgianna's disappearance and therefore incite rumors of the family dealings. Many would grant their condolences, but also burning with curiosity.

Rumors⠀✦

As a Wren, an air of apprehensiveness follows Cordy around in whispers. When Georgianna disappeared, they were at their darkest. Some say that Cordy and her family know what happened, but that they will never say and only wish to cover it up so the whole story can be forgotten. The more malicious rumors depict that they are the reason Georgianna disappeared, or perhaps disposed of her because Georgianna discovered something. Cordy hates this one in particular, because not only is it far from true, but it makes her question over and over why Georgianna disappeared in the first place.

This post above is all because of @selcouth  a huge thanks!

Name: Soren Windlow
Age: 23
Height: 5’ 6”
Appearance: With dark auburn tresses that glow in the sunlight frame and a heart shaped face, Soren has delicate features and full lips. Her eyes are a warm blue green, like sea foam. She has a lean build, and due to her work, there is good muscle definition.
Face Claim: Haley Bennett
Haley Bennett.jpeg Haley Katharina Bennett.jpeg _ (11).jpeg

Stature & Countenance: As a servant in House Galadrow, there is a matter of uniform one must keep. Lord Galadrow doesn’t like slobs working under his roof, and so all his staff are ordered to keep tidy and poised. Soren adheres to these rules, but has a habit of keeping her head down to avoid unwanted attention. She is a quiet young woman, only speaking when spoken to. But she is efficient in her tasks and has even been asked on occasion to help supervise newer staff.
Personality: As a child, Soren was rambunctious and an observant imitator. She would often be found following her father around the farm, copying his mannerisms and habits in an endearing way. Her mother would call her “little duckling” to describe these tendencies. After they were killed, that part of her was largely suppressed and she drew into herself, making few friends while at the orphanage she was sent to. As she grew, the grief and trauma passed, though scars remained from the memories alone. Though she never got to a point of fully trusting people, she strove to get there, especially when she aged out of the orphanage and needed to find work. Now, Soren is quiet and hardworking. Despite her timid personality, she is kind and always eager to help when she can. A part of her still struggles with trust, which results in having few close friends or allies.
Habits: Soren is very timely and tends to stick to certain practices fairly religiously. This results in not doing well with change. A pendant from her mother, an old copper coin which has long since worn down, hangs around her neck. When deep in thought or mindlessly doing something (no moment in between), Soren has a poor habit of putting it in her mouth and biting down on the edge. With her hair being fairly thick and wavy, Soren has a tendency to always put it in a braid which then is falling out half the time.
Fears: Soren has a fear of uncontrolled fire. When her parents were killed, along with the Mage who attempted to save them, the demon set their home aflame. Although she wasn’t there for very long, the image of the flames dancing upon the broken bodies was seared into her mind. Soren is also afraid of small spaces and claustrophobia quickly sets in.
Desires: Soren’s biggest desire is to reobtain her family’s farm, fill the barn and pastures, and live out her life quietly. It was what her father wanted, and before her parents passed, the farm was the only thing she ever knew.
Skills: With many years of training and practice, Soren has become a talented cook and baker. She works mostly in the kitchens because of this. Keeping this mostly to herself, a pile of loose pages under her bed, and a leatherbound journal in her drawer, Soren is also an avid sketcher. She began drawing when she first came to the orphanage. It was one of the first ways she began to express herself again.

History:
Soren grew up on a farm in the Fernely Countryside, a small grouping of lower class homesteads fifty or so miles outside of the great Capitol. It was a quiet life, with few but sturdy interactions with the other surrounding homesteads. Soren’s parents, Annabeth and Aldrin Windlow, lived off of the land and traded frequently with travelers and merchants from the cities. They had a trading stand in the nearby village, Hilltop. Life was simple. But when Soren was ten, the family was visited by a monster.

Demons were common in their world, but with the kingdom’s drafted Mages and the Demonhunters that moved more freely in countryside villages like Hilltop, it was uncommon for one to make it so close to a family homestead. When help did arrive, and only because the flames were so high they seemed to touch the night sky, it was too late. Her parents barely had time to hide Soren before being cut down by the demon. In those few moments before the brave mage appeared, Soren could feel the thing hunting her. It knew she was there, unsure as to her exact location, but the feeling of it made her as still as stone and hold her breath until her chest hurt. Then the mage came, with gleaming short swords that whistled when they were swung. While they fought, Soren could not bring herself to move from the small space in the wardrobe she was fitted into. The walls pressed tightly against her, as if demanding she stay. It was a brutal fight, the fire starting then as the clash of magic steel against the demonic limbs sparked flames. Unfortunately, the Mage fell, the claws of the demon ripping his heart out. Wounded and in a heated rage, the demon fled, leaving the home to burn.

The sight of the fire brought help from nearby neighbors, Demonhunters, and eventually other Mages. Those who could battle the flames magically entered the house where Soren was quick to be discovered from her sudden coughs and cries for help. She was cared for by some neighbors, but eventually was surrendered to a small orphanage in Hilltop. She never spoke of that night to anyone, but the memories haunted her drawings and dreams for quite some time.

When Soren turned sixteen, the caretakers at the orphanage helped her find work. Lord Galadrow owned one of the largest estates outside of the Capitol walls. He was a business man, specializing in fine wines and trade of cattle. He hated Mages, but he hated the demons more so. No Mage was allowed to enter the premises and he ordered his staff to keep away unless absolutely necessary. But of course, he had many Mages as guards for the edges of property that were further from the Capitol. It was even rumored that he paid some Demonhunters under the table to keep his lands safe. But he would never confirm such rumors, let alone allow them to circulate if he knew of their existence. Despite the boisterous Lord and his potent hatred for all magic kind, Soren was grateful for the work. She worked hard and learned fast, quickly becoming a respected servant amongst the household. Mistress Catheli, the head of staff, trusted her with various errands and supervision. Even Lord Galadrow had offered her compliments when their paths had crossed, which was rare. Needless to say, Soren was grateful where she was, and even though she made little, it was enough to slowly save to buy her family’s farm back.

Other:

  • Brandlin Everling - An aged Demonhunter that frequents Hilltop, he’s known Soren from a young age, though she was always discouraged by her parents and childhood friends to speak with him. Despite the social apprehension and occasional hostility, Brandlin took a liking to the small, spitfire of a girl. His magic was bound to the earth and the things that came from it. Wielding an enchanted axe, the population of Hilltop was grateful for the protection. They never said thank you, rather offered it in free ale at any tavern he would frequent. Soren remembers him fondly, and how he would offer her small flowers that grew out of the palm of his hand. He was the one who found her in the burning wardrobe.
  • Oksana - A young girl that grew up with Soren in the orphanage. A timid little thing, the two grew close through love for the outdoors, animals, and exchanging drawings. It was Oksana that brought Soren out of her quiet state of shock and spiral of dark drawings. She even taught Soren how to draw different animals. They lost contact with one another when Soren left to House Galadrow.
