Lily's Mood

Low/High Fantasy backstory:

The Bard's Guild took anyone with the talent to play an instrument, sing a song, or resit a poem. Lily had picked up the lute from her adolescence stirring away from the sheepherders her mother and father were, with their ten children. Nine girls and one boy, she was glad to be away from such a huge family that cared little for her newfound talent, after spending many hours listening to the local minstrel at the tavern, and spending what little coin she had for lessons on his lute. When the man spoke of the Bard's Guild accepting new members, Lily vowed to attend no matter the journey. For miles and miles, she walked through dangerous terrain and found herself beside traveling nobles who gleefully listened to her novice-crafted songs.

On arrival to the guild she was expected to go through a series of tests, each requiring her to pass before she could enter and spaces were limited so competition was high. The first was to show her talent with an instrument, the second her ability to tell a riveting tale of heroics and romance, and the last to write a small play for the theater where the Bard's Guild held all their performances for the public. Lily passed two and failed the last, her written play had been stolen by one of the other Bards, someone that she had come to consider a friend. She had nothing come the day of the test to show the tutors of the Guild.

Her supposed friend's betrayal was felt deeply by the budding Bard. She knew without evidence and only her word as proof. There was no chance to win, especially against someone from a long line of Bards and connections in the Guild. When she was just a simple sheep-herders daughter. Instead, she decided to wait for the next opening in two years, and travel the world to enrich her stories to tell the Guild should she return as the world might have a different fate laid out in front of her.

Instead, she oddly finds herself joining up with the Wonderful World of Mr. Popper, a showman who built a circus from nothing and now travels the lands with his strange companions...

Modern Backstory:

Back in California Lily worked night and day busking on the streets for a few dollars. Her voice carried throughout the dark alleyways and into the hearts of even the darkest of souls who waited each day to see the woman return to her spot. By a little bench, on a little street, next to a little hot dog stand. She asked for nothing in return for seeing the joy on people's faces as they listened to her songs. And when asked she performed covers of popular pieces, from classical all the way down to pop artists.

Lily did not come from a wealthy background, her parents were blue-collar and good people. But their views were different, they were heavily religious, catholic beliefs that drove her away once they discovered she was gay. She couldn't bear the look in her mother's eyes at the disappointment and the silence from her father, until their enflamed reactions pushed her out of the house. So she left home at the age of 17 and began to hitchhike across America. Meeting all kinds of wonderful people, and less savory individuals, all of which fueled her songs for the future.

Until she settled in California enjoying the nightlife and all the people she would meet during the day, either from her music sessions on the streets, helping food banks, shelters at dinner time, or any charity that needed a hand she was happy to help through the agency that contacted volunteers.

With her love for music so strong she sent in pieces to studios, but she was constantly rejected based on blandness or not trendy enough songs. Instead, they tried to push genres and lyrics they determined were better for her talent. Lily didn't care for money, she was interested in the passion of her creations. So, she dreamed of owning her studio one day setting the terms of what music she could play, and having that creative freedom she longed for with music.

Aleksandra's Mood

Backstory:

The daughter of a Steel plant worker who was laid off after an accident with the machinery that took his left leg. After that the family struggled, forcing them to move in with an Aunt and Uncle near the city of Perm where her Father Nikolai worked in a small garage. Aleksandra was born sometime after the accident and only knew a life of low income, skirting the lines of poverty as they struggled to get by. The cabin they lived in grew more empty after their Uncle Lev went to America. They didn't hear from him for a few years, it was when she was fourteen that the family heard back from him. Her father and uncle planned for them to move to America but they did not have the means to do so legally.

Instead, they made a deal with her Uncle Lev, which put them in debt with the Russian Mob, as they were smuggled into the country, forced to work in a chop-shop for stolen, expensive cars and bikes to be sold for parts. Or plates to be cleaned for the vehicle to be resold or used for criminal activity. The family had very little interaction with the Mafia, as they used their Uncle Lev as a go-between. A small blessing, but they saw the violence and brutality from the outside like everyone else. Aleksandra became desensitized to the bloodshed when she would mop up blood from the backroom floor and not ask questions.

But like her father she worked, stealing cars was her specialty at first, then a driver for robberies, and when she showed an aptitude for machinery, being able to comprehend complex locks, and having a mind for engineering. He showed her how to open a mobile safe, and how vaults were made in banks from blueprints they stole. She got a taste for the money that could be made, but at the start, she never liked to work with others. Her Uncle Lev always liked to leave a mess, forcing Aleksandra's hand that soon became a habit as she took after his brutal nature. That and sometimes people wanted a message to be left with the owner, a lasting impression.

After she gained enough capital Aleksandra bought her way out of the business but not enough for her family...

Shara-Tel Character - Bard/Rogue

Alias [Little Magpie, Cele]

05cb09af99003e3a1fffa42b34f65d05.jpg

Real Name: Celeste Blackburne
Age: 19
Gender: Female
Race: Human
Class: Bard/Rogue
Background: Traveling Minstrel/Pirate
Social Status: Commoner
Hair: Crimson
Eyes: Murky Green
Skin: Snow white
Height: 5'9
Weight: 155lbs
Body Type: Slender

Appearance: The wild curls of crimson are prominently tamed within a single ponytail made from simple leather. Despite wrestling with it every day, much to Celeste's frustrations. She keeps it clean and tidy, like the rest of her body. She baths regularly so her snowy skin holds a glow to it from all the honey she adds to the warm waters. Her body is mostly blemish-free but across her left thigh is a remarkable scar, jagged and deep as if it had almost cut to the bone. Celeste is normally self-conscious of the mark and hides it behind a thick set of breeches. She holds a slender frame, with a narrow set of hips and a small waist, not curvy like most women making her look more like a tom-boy than most women of her age who look spectacular in a dress yet she would appear better in a tunic, and breeches for formal occassions.

Attire:

Much of Celeste's clothing was a gift. Leathers from all types of craftsmen, some were found in her travels or given to her for playing a piece of music. She wears an old leather shoulder piece on the left that is fastened over her chest. A blue gaily-coloured silk shirt and black breeches with a matching pair of boots, that gathered dirt often. She also wore a pair of brown gloves that went up the forearm. Often she carried her small bag that held the lute and vielle clunking behind her as she walked. And a pan for when she'd be out in the wild cooking her food. Her most unique piece was the green scarf made of fine linens and kept pristine from daily washing, it was her most prized possession besides Morgans Vielle.

Personality: Optimistic, Adventurous, Pragmatic, Daring

Celeste was known as a force of nature on the high seas and a charismatic whirlwind in any tavern. She thrives on the adventure of the moment as she prides herself on being a woman who lives for the now. But, no storm or enemy can dampen Celeste's spirits. Her unwavering optimism is a beacon in even the darkest of times. And even in the most harrowing of events she is always seen to take the first step no matter how dangerous or life-threatening.

Her biggest joy is finding new challenges to light the fire in her belly.

Flaws: The most prominent is her stubbornness, once the girl has her mind set on something it can be hard to dissuade her decision.

Celeste is a bit like a magpie and can't seem to help herself from taking something shiny. Like her days at sea, she learned to love treasure, in particular gemstones that she hides away. Without the X to mark the spot...

She is also a woman who lives in the moment. That can sometimes translate into impulsivity for Celeste.

Her spontaneous nature leads her to make hasty decisions without fully considering the consequences.

A black heart is hidden beneath the waves. Out at sea, she was a woman who thrived on the hunt for treasure and the dangers of the ocean. Many of her ballads are comprised of the daring adventures she undertook when she sailed under the black. She hides her dark desires for treasure well but they can sometimes get the better of her when offered a few baubles and emerald stones.

Skills: Pickpocket, she can take an item with only the slightest distraction (a brush on the shoulder, a slight bump into the person)

Performer, Celeste has frequently charmed a room with only her voice or vielle alone granting her quite a few coins for her entertainment.

A great sailor she can handle any storm or waters beneath the hull of a vessel.

Special Talents: Bardic Inspiration, Song of Rest, Charm Person, Message (Bard), Prestidigitation (Bard), Disguise Self, Heroism, Sleep

Equipment: Lute, Morgan's Vielle, Leather Armor, Short bow, Longsword, Backpack, Disguise Kit, Thieves Tools, Poetry Journal

Backstory:

Black Sails

Little Magpie's Story

It all began at the tender age of 8 years old dressed as a boy no doubt. Like many thieves and beggars, she watched the merchant ships roll into the harbor, full of food and riches. With an empty belly, the skinny Celeste hid in one of the barrels of fish to be loaded onto the ship. When night rolled in she found a spot on the vessel and slowly picked away at their stock of food. For two weeks she traveled with them unnoticed. But her luck ran out when the ship was attacked by pirates. The men plundered and took what was owed to the sea. Anything that remained was set ablaze.

Celeste found herself in the Captain's quarters after they had discovered her unconscious and with pockets full of jewelry. Soon after she became their cabin boy introduced to the harsh life of a pirate. The Captain knew of her secret. But the crew remained oblivious, as she kept her hair short and dressed like the men.

Celeste soon found out the Captain was not just a man who held eyes filled with hunger for gold and fame. His soul was gentle in the way of music. Many nights she found herself sleeping outside his cabin listening to the melody of his Vielle. The passion that flowed from his hands drew the fire in her heart to find the same. She slowly proved herself and changed the way Captain Blackburne viewed her when she was caught playing his Vielle with some raw talent. The man took it upon himself to teach Celeste as he once was by a man who took a chance on an orphan.

The Captain treated her differently more as a pupil than a cabin boy. Slowly she became the ship's bard driving joy into their hearts, and a storm in their lungs before they plundered a helpless ship. Out of respect and seeing the man who commanded their vessel as a father she took his family name as her own. Captain Blackburne of the Martin. Her journey on the waves lasted 4 years until the vessel fell to a greater enemy. Celeste was alone once more as she found far-off shores, traveling for years as she performed in taverns and sometimes for nobility.

Seraphina Larkspur

「 Basic Information 」

aliases
: Sera, Bastard Born, Princess
age: 20
sexuality: Straight
height: 5'2
weight: 55kg
skin: Pale
hair: Red
eyes: Blue

Character Personality

A gentle girl with a kind smile. As she grew up into a young woman her compassion for others outgrew her self-value. Always looking to help others despite her poor economic state of being a simple baker's assistant. She offered bread to orphaned children and helped the village leader whenever she could manage. But she worked too hard, caring little for herself and personal enjoyment as she placed others before herself. Hinting at low self-worth from her years of being treated as nothing but a servant to a loveless man who took her in with his several other children to feed. A woman always left behind and gave nothing for her efforts but the joy she saw in their smile. Some would call her whimsical, wishful in her imaginings always staring out the window as if waiting for something new to happen.

Backstory:

Childhood

Her childhood was simple for the most part. Her mother Lilian, once a daughter of a guard who served King Albert, she was a common servant for the King, she spent her years growing up among those walls and knew of the King from her maiden years. She came from across the waters when she was eight months pregnant, and found settlement underneath Lord Belmont's eye. He offered her a position of servitude among his walls, and she worked in the kitchens. The woman worked the dairy products, churning butter and making cheese.

At the tender age of two, Seraphina became an orphan when her mother succumbed to dysentery in the harsh conditions of exile. Seraphina was left alone and vulnerable. Fate intervened when she was discovered by a compassionate baker and his wife. Seeing the innocence in the child's eyes, the baker's family decided to take her in and raise her alongside their children.

Growing up in the humble surroundings of the bakery, Seraphina experienced a childhood vastly different from one of royalty. Her adoptive family provided her with love, warmth, and a sense of belonging. The fragrant smell of freshly baked bread and the laughter of her adoptive siblings became the backdrop of her early years.

Despite the simplicity of her upbringing, Seraphina's true identity became evident as she grew older. The unmistakable grace and regal bearing inherited from her royal lineage set her apart, even in the bustling marketplace where she helped her adoptive family sell their goods.

Adolescence

At the age of sixteen Seraphina had started to become a remarkable and capable young girl. She caught the eye of the Lord's sons Alaric and Brennan, they began visiting the bakery where she would often spend time outside tending to the delivered wheat and fruits. The boys quickly befriended her and instilled a rebellious nature into the girl who vanished for a couple of hours at a time to play in the woods or visit the market. Alaric was more prominent in his display of affection that soon bled into the Lord's household when their father learned of the boy's friendship with the girl that he knew to be a bastard royal from King Albert. Soon after the girl stopped seeing them and she fell back into a routine.

Adulthood

The years went by and Seraphina turned into a fine young woman. Her body developed well, and she warned off many suitors. She was at the point in her life where the baker could use a new hand to take over. Once the old man caught her baking a delicious meat pie that drew in new customers, even to the Lord's kitchens where she started to show off her skills and make dishes for the visiting nobility. She became well known for her pies and sweet rolls. The Lord offered her an education in exchange for simply working for him, she learned to read and write, allowing some of her more creative skills to flow.

No one mentioned how her mother once worked in that very same position. And the Lord Belmont was the one who made sure the girl was taken care of by the baker's family. They were paid handsomely to simply shelter her and care for the child as if she were theirs. Such knowledge did not reach her until the summoning from the usurper caught her ear, and news of the rebellion took away many young men to join them. One of Lord Belmont's sons disappeared, and Alaric joined the growing resistance. That was the last time she saw him, and the moment Seraphina learned of her bloodline as a bastard.

Esmeralda's Mood

Backstory: WIP

A potential knight of the realm. That is what Esmeralda wanted to be for the future. But with her mother known as a woman of the pleasure house, no knight would accept her as a squire. With a hope to one day be dubbed a knight by the King so that she could join the Knights of the Realm.

But without her father's identity and her mother's reputation casting a shadow on the girl. That and many did not wish to train a common girl as there were no female knights.

She knew to some degree her father was not a common soldier or guard, from the coin spent and the quality of the armor. But, with no insignia or crest to give birth to his origin. And, her mother remembered nothing but his coin purse after he vanished from the brothel drunk. Never to be seen from or heard of again.

All she had of his memory was his armor. Her mother had tried to sell it but it was too old and worn for any further use, so it was forgotten. Esmeralda found it when she was tending to her mother's chamber, and decided to keep it. When she could pay for it to be adjusted and fixed from its age years Esmeralda would practice wearing it, and she trained alone with a wooden sword that she carved herself. She was nowhere near the level of any knight yet still she trained daily after she worked the fields and helped the farmer mend his fences.

She longed to kneel before the King and serve beneath him as a loyal Knight of the realm...

Backstory:

Emelie's Song

Emelie Singing Voice Reference

Lute Instrument

Name: Emelie Vespar
Age: 19
Race: Human
Vocation: Bard/Pirate

Hair & Eyes: Blonde curls that flow past her shoulders, and crystal blue eyes.
Height & Body Type: 5'9 & Slender
Other Physical Feature: A petal-shaped birthmark on her thigh
Typical Attire:

Much of Emelie's clothing was a gift. Leathers from all types of craftsmen, some were found in her travels or given to her for playing a piece of music. She wore an old leather shoulder piece on the left that was fastened over her chest. Her most unique piece was the green scarf made of fine linens and kept pristine from daily washing. She loves a good, firm corset that emphasizes the bosoms. (Picture is also a reference)

Background:

Emelie's life started off shaky at best. Her father was a traveling minstrel, he was never very good at poetry or singing but his charismatic nature and handsome face placed him in the beds of many fine young women. It was one such woman, a scandalous affair with a nobleman's daughter who shared his bed on her wedding day. Emelie was the result, an illegitimate child born of passion. But her father's life was soon changed with her birth. The man was hunted down and the child dropped (not literally) at his feet. They knew the child was his from the birthmark, same shape and in the exact location.

He was given coin to stay quiet and never to return to Kalidor. With his daughter in hand, the man agreed and left the Kingdom swiftly. An infant was difficult to take care of, and with so little money he tried desperately to pawn her off to one of his many women. Earning him a slap for his efforts.

After trial and error he gained the hang of childrearing, and finding she had a talent for being a cute addition to his acts when telling lavish stories of his adventures. Soon the pair became a double act, Emelie used puppets while he spun a tale of women, heroics and fortunes. He was only popular in the taverns with the drunks, since nobility had no need for his crude tales. Emelie on the other hand showed raw talent for the Vielle, and lute so he started to teach her, and soon she found her voice as well as her skill with the instrument.

They performed in festivals, on the streets, and most commonly in taverns where her father would end up in some nobles carriage only to leave with a mouthful of jewelry. Emelie never knew how he managed it. But their luck ran dry as they boarded a merhcnat ship with a wealthy patron buying passage. And the vessel was attacked by pirates. They were quite the opportunists, and Emelie found her hands grabbing a small box of rubies while her father picked the lock on the Captains desk. With their hands in the cookie jar, the pirates found them and their pockets were emptied aboard the other ship while the merchant was set ablaze.

Fortunately the Captain was a woman in disguise. Safer to dress and act like a man on the high seas. Emelie could tell a woman in any state of dress, so when they were put below deck. She and her father tried to convince the crew their Captain was a woman to stage a mutiny. It worked partially but only half the crew sided with them and the results were bloody, with Emelie and her father in shackles with threats to walking the plank. Emelie asked the Captain for a final request, and that was one night with her to change her mind about killing them both.

The events that night resulted in Emelie remaining onboard The Ruby Maiden for several months, becoming deeply involved in a love-triangle between the Captain and her husband, the ships quartermaster. and finding her tastes for treasure only to rise as she enjoyed the pirate lifestyle. Until she heard of the New World, and someone spoke of emeralds being found. Emelie just couldn't stay away once she knew...

Reason for coming to the New World: Seeking her fortune, someone mentioned emeralds and she couldn't resist the urge...

Skills: Bowyer, Archery, Musical Instruments, Singing/Poetry/Story-telling, Sailor, Whipcracking

Talents: (New World) Bardic Spells

Flaws:

Jewels, emeralds specifically are her weaknesses she would betray a friend for a bag of those green gems.

Emelie is a stubborn woman once she sets her mind on something its hard to disuade her. Especially in matters of the heart...

Competitive she doesn't like to be on the losing side. Always looking for a way to get a leg up on the competition. She's not the type of woman that likes to be on the bottom in ANY scenario.

Equipment/Gear/Important Possessions:
  • Light brown lute and Flute a gift from Arthars. Crafted by the renowned luthier, Gustus, a crafter specializing in Lutes and Flutes it has his crafter mark on the side of a dove.
  • Elm bow that Emelie made herself, its wood is pale with the natural light shimmers of age blending together. Poundage 65, right-handed bow.
  • Black whip roughly 8ft long
  • Caestus (leather gloves with iron reinforcements around the knuckles)
  • Her father he's baggage
