Into The Deep Roads
The year is 3:25 Towers and the Third Blight has just ended. The Archdemon Toth was killed by the Grey Wardens and the horde disbanded by the combined armies of Tevinter and Orlais. Whilst there is much rebuilding to be done and political turmoil descends over the already decimated lands of the Free Marches the Grey Wardens can at least give a collective sigh of relief. The existential threat of the Third Blight is over. But, as is the case with all Blights, many Darkspawn still linger on the surface and it is up the Grey Wardens to stamp out these remnants for good.
But where there is chaos, there is also opportunity. There is only a brief window after a Blight where the Darkspawn infestation of the Deep Roads is lessoned. A brief window for anyone to either brave enough or mad enough to attempt an expedition. And this exactly what the Grey Wardens intend to do.
In the later years of a Grey Wardens life they begin to hear the calling, a signal that their time is coming to an end. To meet their end with dignity and sacrifice they head into the Deep Roads to fall in battle against the Darkspawn menace. None ever return. Except once. In the year 2:45 Glory a Grey Warden did the unthinkable and walked out of the Deep Roads. He was half crazed by the Taint and gravely injured but with him he had a journal and amongst the non-sensical madness he talks about a place below the Deep Roads. Untouched by Darkspawn but and rich in lyrium, a place he claimed, 'held the secret to the Blights.' The journal was catalogued in the Grand Library of Weisshaupt, simply regarded as a curiosity for nearly a hundred years. An area that repels Darkspawn? Holding the truth of the Blights? This is knowledge the Grey Wardens could use. But whilst the Deep Roads were held tightly in the grip of the Darkspawn there was no chance of reaching it, even a small party would struggle to cover such a distance whilst contending with the seemingly infinite dangers of the Deep Roads.
But now with the Third Blight over, with the Darkspawn still scattered and confused on the surface…we have a chance, to enter the Deep Roads and find out if the Grey Warden who returned all those years ago was just a Blight-addled mad man or…a bringer of new truths to the Wardens.
Hey guys, just wanted to put out an idea for a Dragon Age Roleplay. Dragon Age is one of my favourite fantasy settings of all time and I love the lore and world building behind it. Don't want to put up a ton of details as the story would involve many twists and turns. I would take some liberties to keep it interesting but for the most part I would like to keep it as lore friendly as possible. But as hinted it would take place in the Deep Roads.
If anyone is interested, I think we could use 5-6 player characters to form a party. They would have to be Wardens and they would probably all be veterans of the Third Blight by now (at least in some way.) So just creating a post to measure any interest in the idea. I'll pop up a character skelly for anyone who is interested to work with. I myself would DM and play one character amongst the group just to drive certain narratives.
