I usually dont devote a whole thread to just one idea, but this one can go in so many different directions depending on my partner and where they want to go with it. It is essentially a setting rather than a plot. So PM me with your ideas for it.
Think of almost every fantasy adventure book/movie you have ever come across. In its most basic form, a ragtag group of adventurers teaming up to take down the evil overlord after continent hopping to collect all the magical Macguffins they need to match his power and stop him ruling/destroying the world, right? So against all odds they finally defeat him. The crisis is over. An era of peace and prosperity reigns. Everthing is happy and healthy and rainbows and unicorns.
Uh, how about no. This might be fantasy we're talking about here, but that's not how this or any other world works.
Our story is set in a world actually made WORSE by the actions of the so-called heroes. War torn lands with a sudden vacuum of power, and of course monster issues because SOMEBODY just killed the dude who was controlling them all. Everyone curses the heroes names, who just disappeared into their own little happy corners while chaos ensued. He might have been a cruel heartless bastard of a leader, but at least Mr. Evil Overlord kept all his underlings in line. And, ya know, those charming townspeople never learned how to solve their own problems because someone was always there to do it for them.
Satire? Absolutely! Romance? Bring it on! Character build and plot to your heart's content. Take this idea and run with it. I'll run right along with you. My only rule is that it has to be an original(ish) world and not a (direct) fandom.
