Furry Island

Furry Island is set in a near-future alternate-reality where scientists have bio-engineered Human/Animal hybrid beings to perform certain tasks, best suited to the animal species/breeds.

Brief Timeline (minus the dates because I’m too lazy to bother with those at the moment)

• During the cold war, scientists have begun experimenting on creating super soldiers by crossing humans with aggressive breeds of canines. The resulting specimens are referred to simply as Hybrids.
• The program is expanded to includes breeds specifically suited for stealth, tracking and search and rescue.
• Due to leaks, all sides in the tensions begin developing their own Hybrid soldiers.
• World War 3 sees the first true use of Hybrids in conflicts, and they are deemed a success. Unfortunately, due to the time required to breed Hybrids, their numbers are insufficient to replace casualties.
• Following 2 years of conflict, and Armistice is signed, ending the War.
• Conferences are held to determine what’s to be done with the Hybrids that exist and those still in the breeding stages.
• Private Firms begin their own Hybrid Projects, creating Hybrids (Phase 2) using any Animal Species to fill specific tasks, including but not limited to pleasure services, entertainment, concierge services, pet services, labour roles, etc…
• The remaining Combat Hybrids (Phase 1) are either sold to private contractors (mercenaries), private security firms while each nation is permitted to keep a certain number of Hybrids according to conference treaties.
• Activists hold first protests about Hybrids. Some say they should be declared sentient and freed, as they are little more than slaves. Others say they are unnatural creatures, and with the war at an end, the Hybrids should be put down and the technology destroyed.
• Protests intensify on both sides, leading to worldwide riots.
• Hybrids begin protesting ion hopes of winning their freedoms. Riots intensify and spread leading to deaths. Anti-Hybrid activists blame the Hybrids. Conflict related to the Hybrids became rampant, and the period is often called the Hybrid Wars.
• Governments are forced to tighten restrictions on Hybrids, revoking what little freedoms they have. Many, particularly Phase 1 hybrids are terminated.
• Present Day: Remaining Hybrids are little more than slaves. Some are programmed to accept their fate and serve their master’s faithfully with absolute loyalty. Some are kept in cages, abused and treated as little more than slaves/pets/vermin.

Marshall Drakewood is the owner of Sanctuary Island, a private and secluded island in the Caribbean, close to the mainland of South America. Sanctuary is in fact not one, but a series of several islands grouped together. While a few of the islands are larger, the island chain does not appear on most maps. The island has seen extensive work over the past decade, some to the landscaping and waterways, but also in the construction of many different buildings and other structures.

The Billionaire was aware of what was coming, and despite the warnings he was mostly ignored, which is what led to the work on Sanctuary. At the onset of the Hybrid Wars, Marshall began rescuing Hybrids and bringing them here to the safety of the island. Over the past few years, Marshall has created a worldwide network of people sympathetic to the Hybrid cause, so new Hybrids are delivered to the island when it can be done securely.

The islands have much of what is needed to live peaceful lives, including various types of residence dwellings, hospitals, schools and recreation facilities. Some food is grown on the island, though much of it along with other necessary supplies are brought in either by boat or helicopter. Whenever possible, new arrivals are assessed and given a physical examination before employed in whatever field is best. Over the past few years, a society has built up around the island, with the human staff and resident Hybrids living in peaceful harmony.

Name: Marshall Drakewood
Age: 58

Marshall stands at about 6’ in height with athletic build. Despite his age, Marshall is physically fit and athletic. He’s deceptively strong and gifted with impressive stamina. He has thick, greying hair with beard and mustache. He always appears distinguished with an aura of intimidation.

Marshall’s background is shrouded in grey. He began his career as an arms dealer when he was quite young, and he was one of the first to push for the human/canine hybridization for the creation of super soldier weapons. By the time he was thirty he was a billionaire and considered a leader and visionary in arms and hybrid warfare.

At the age of forty, with the World War having come to an end, he advocated for the transition of existing war Hybrids to a post-war role. But his advocacy fell on deaf ears, while many of the combat Hybrids were terminated as no longer deemed useful or necessary, new Hybrids were being created, and he could see the direction the world was headed in. It was around this time that his wife of twenty years, a renown scientist and doctor of Hybrids studies passed away. Before she died, she begged Marshall to be a champion for the Hybrid cause, a cause he gladly took on.

Marshall has mostly retired from public life, preferring to live on Sanctuary Island with the Hybrids who have thus far been delivered. He still does travel around when he deems it necessary, usually to reinforce the Hybrid Rescue Network he’s created.

Name: Dr. Angela Timmins
Age: 42

Dr. Angela Timmins is the chief medical doctor, and an expert in Hybrid biotechnology. She had worked very closely and had been close friends with Marshall’s wife. When she had passed away it didn’t take much convincing for her to join the billionaire’s crusade to try and save as many Hybrids as possible. She found Hybrids fascinating and as recently she’s been working on a personal project.

Project ‘Birthright’ as she has come to call it, is the study of Hybrid reproductive systems. Hybrids are, by their very nature, sterile. She’s been working on creating fertility in female Hybrids. Many of the Hybrids on the island have formed relationships, and many had dreamt of having children the old fashion way. This far she’s had very little success, though she feels like she might be on the cusp of a breakthrough.

Angela is 42 and in good physical shape. She has long red hair and green eyes and she starts at about 5’7”. She’s kind and generous and always eager to help the Hybrids on the island.

Phase 1 Hybrids are the earliest of Hybrids, engineered mostly for their combat skills and abilities. The initial phase 1 Hybrids were simply designed as shock troops, while other types were created to take on other military roles, ranging from (but not limited to) subterfuge and stealth, search and rescue and piloting. These are mostly canine-variant but in the later stages of the War other animal-types were engineered.

Phase 2 Hybrids were created following the success of the Phase 1 Hybrids based on their performance during the War. At first these were created to perform certain duties or tasks but once approved for sale by various governments looking to cash in on the new technology, they were created less for a specific purpose and more on the whims of the rich.

Phase 2A Hybrids were created to play specific roles, for example nocturnal animal hybrids were created to perform night work, underground animal Hybrids were created to perform work in the mining industry. Some Hybrids were created for simple tasks like physical labour, for example horse Hybrids were created for physical labour requiring strength and endurance, and others were created to work in the concierge industry, usually as servants, cleaning staff or even butlers.

Phase 2B Hybrids were created to provide amusement and entertainment, some as pets, some as performers and entertainers and other to work in the sex industry.
