EST. JULY 2026⠀✦⠀CHAPTER:⠀PRELUDE⠀✦⠀WRITER COUNT:⠀TWO
Inspired by works like Bridgerton and Jane Austen novels, 𝐆𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐲𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬 unfolds during a Regency-style social season, centering around magical bloodlines, high-society intrigue, scandal, politics, and of course, romance. Magic, though scarce, remains the greatest measure of status in this story. Once abundant across the world, arcane power has dwindled to little more than a fading inheritance, passed unpredictably through noble bloodlines. Even amongst these houses, there is no guarantee an heir will possess their family's Leyline, making every courtship, engagement, and birth a matter of dire importance.
As a disclaimer, this is not my original concept! I was inspired by @BornfireBlue's interest check, but since the thread has been inactive for several months, I've decided to take up the premise and develop it myself.
STATUS.
⠀Gilded Leylines is currently accepting new writers. ⠀

general rules
✦⠀Follow proper roleplay etiquette and site rules at all times.
✦⠀Treat fellow writers with respect; conflict between characters should never devolve into OOC drama. Bullying, harassment, or bigotry of any kind will not be tolerated.
✦⠀No god-modding or meta-gaming; your character is not all-knowing or invincible. If you learn something OOC, don’t have your character act on it unless they have a legitimate reason to!
✦⠀Please adhere to the themes and atmosphere of this story. While this roleplay thrives on low-fantasy elements, drama, and high-society intrigue, keep it plausible and relative to the established world.
✦⠀As much as I hate to say it.. smut is not permitted. Flirting, steamy tension, and fade-to-black scenes are more than welcome, but explicit sexual content should take place in a separate thread of your own.
✦⠀This will be a long-term roleplay for long-term characters. If you are unable to commit, this probably isn't the group for you. If you ghost without reason, it is unlikely you'll be able to rejoin.

⠀
progression & posting
✦⠀There will be an expectation of at least one post every 14 days, with leniency for busy times of the year. If you need to step away or become disinterested, communicate so we can work around your absence.
✦⠀If you're stuck in a scene for over 2 weeks without a reply, feel free to withdraw from it without explanation to find another interaction. This prevents writers from missing out and will hopefully encourage the importance of communication.
✦⠀There’s no strict word count, but posts should aim to be well-written and engaging; develop characters, further the plot, and give others something to respond to.
✦⠀This roleplay will run in chapters. This means every few weeks, a scene might end and shift into something new, cycling between sandbox opportunities, writing prompts, and special story events.
✦⠀Between certain events, the roleplay may briefly pause to allow new writers the chance to join before the next chapter begins.
✦⠀Please mention your character's favorite flower somewhere in their character sheet; this lets me know you've read the rules up to this point.

character guidelines
⠀
✦⠀Leylines (magic types) are available on a first-come, first-served basis to encourage variety and avoid overlap.
✦⠀Your character's surname is determined by which of their parents' Leylines they possess (i.e., if they inherit their mother's magic, they also inherit their mother's family name).
✦⠀Real face claims are required; if you are either uncomfortable with this or cannot find someone that fits what you have in mind, a detailed physical description is highly encouraged. Absolutely no AI permitted.
✦⠀Each writer is allowed two characters, so long as they're able to commit to a higher post frequency (two posts bi-weekly). If you create two characters, I'd ask that you play one male and one female to keep it balanced. As we progress, additional characters may be approved for those who prove reliable.
✦⠀Despite this being set in a historic era, all sexualities, races, and gender identities are welcomed in this world! However, because nobility are expected to continue their Leylines through heirs, most magically-gifted families generally demand heterosexual marriage.
✦⠀Most importantly, have fun with it! This roleplay will thrive on secrets, scandal, ambition, and romance; so come at me with your schemers, spoiled heirs, manipulative nobles, hopeless romantics, and dysfunctional families! I will rarely say no to your ideas, and even then, I'll help find the best alternative!

q & a
What Leylines (magic types) are not allowed?
Anything generally considered overpowered (reality-warping, time travel, celestial, resurrection, etc.) or controlling. Magic should be balanced, prioritizing creative applications of simpler concepts. If you're not sure, just ask.
Can my character be royalty?
No. Members of the royal family are NPCs, occasionally written into scenes by me, your GM. However, if approved, your character's family may have ties to the crown, depending on lore or usefulness of their Leyline.
Does my character have to get married?
Not at all; your character is free to pursue entirely different ambitions, but it may reflect poorly on them if they do not find a match by the end of the season. There are plenty of characters that have been out in society for a few seasons now.
Are the characters all strangers?
Not necessarily; most of the characters might know each other from previous seasons, family ties, or general celebrations throughout the year. Newcomers to the ton, however, are likely to be unfamiliar faces.
Do Leylines mixing cause evolutions or new abilities that blend the two?
Yes and no. In extremely rare cases, a child may inherit both their parents' magic instead of one. They may learn to wield both Leylines, sometimes creating a unique combination of their abilities. Oftentimes, this magic can be unstable or produce complications within the body, leading to severe chronic pain, mental instability, or a short lifespan. His Majesty The King is the only person in Delmare known to wield two Leylines.
What Leylines are already taken?
Emotional Suggestion.
What face-claims are already taken?

setting lore
⠀
TIME PERIOD⠀✦
This story will be set during a Regency-era equivalent, mirroring the early 19th century. Much of this roleplay will center around the annual Social Season when nobility leave their countryside estates to gather in the kingdom's capital for Parliament, lavish balls, and courtship.
LEYLINES⠀✦
Each noble house possesses a hereditary Leyline; a unique branch of magic passed from one generation to the next. Each Leyline manifests as a single, distinct magical aspect (water, plants, lightning, dreams, etc.) which becomes synonymous with that house.
Dual-Line.⠀On exceptionally rare occasions, typically once every few generations, a child may inherit two Leylines instead of one. These dual-magic wielders can learn to blend their Leyline types to create something new, but over time, this great power puts strain on the body. The wielder may suffer from exhaustion, chronic pain, fevers and dizzy spells, and a shortened lifespan.
Incompatible Couples.⠀Not all Leylines are meant to coexist. Certain pairings are considered incompatible, typically resulting in failing magic, chronic illness from proximity, or magically unstable children born from the union. Most aristocratic marriages are often arranged with magical compatibility in mind.
SOCIETY & CULTURE⠀✦
Society closely resembles the customs and etiquette of the Regency era. Nobility are expected to uphold strict standards of propriety, with titles, reputation, and marriage carrying great importance. Fashion follows classic Regency silhouettes with subtle fantasy influences, though elegance and decorum remain paramount.
Surnames.⠀Amidst nobility, surnames are not always changed upon marriage, nor are children automatically given their father's last name. Instead, a child's surname is determined by which of their parent's Leylines they received. If they are born without magic, it is common to have a hyphenated surname representing both parental lines.
LGBT.⠀Delmare is accepting of all sexualities and gender identities. However, nobility are expected to continue their Leylines via heirs, so most magically-gifted families generally demand heterosexual marriage.
TECHNOLOGY⠀✦
This realm reflects real-world Regency-era technology: horse-drawn carriages, sailing vessels, handwritten letters and invitations, and candlelight. Firearms exist in limited capacity, and magic is too uncommon to influence industry or daily convenience, especially in the poorer districts.

LOCALE⠀✦
The story will primarily take place in Delmare, the capital of Elyria; a prosperous coastal city of bustling harbors, elegant estates, flourishing gardens, and canals of turquoise waters that weave between districts. Nobility has the pleasure of promenades on a seaside boardwalk, clubs and music halls, and a shopping district of the finest fashion, jewelry, perfumery, and luxury imports. Beyond the polished façade of aristocracy, the city gives way to lively markets, working-class neighborhoods, vineyards and farmland that sustain the capital, and a bordering forest.

THE CROWN⠀✦
Soren Augustine has long been regarded as one of the kingdom's greatest marvels; at just six years old, he became the first known person in generations to inherit two Leylines. This extremely rare phenomenon earned the admiration of both the gentry and common folk, and was celebrated as a symbol of prosperity for the realm's future.
At the age of twenty, the king married Princess Nefira of Azenath, an allied kingdom, making her Elyria's new queen. In the years they've been together, they had five children—the Crown Prince/ss, TBN, was the only one to inherit his mother's Leyline and is expected to one day succeed to the throne.
Now in his mid-forties, King Soren's rare gift is taking its toll. The strain of having two magical aspects leaves him plagued with exhaustion, chronic pain, and recurring fevers, confining him to his private chambers for most of the year. As his condition has worsened, Queen Nefira has assumed the majority of the Crown's responsibilities, becoming the kingdom's steady and respected public figure as His Majesty's health declines.

Certain pairings are considered incompatible, typically resulting in failing magic, chronic illness from proximity, or magically unstable children born from the union. Most aristocratic marriages are often arranged with magical compatibility in mind.
- Surnames: Amidst nobility, surnames are not always changed upon marriage, nor are children automatically given their father's last name. Instead, a child's surname is determined by which of their parent's Leylines they received. If they are born without magic, it is common to have a hyphenated surname representing both parental lines.
- LGBT: Delmare is accepting of all sexualities and gender identities. However, nobility are expected to continue their Leylines via heirs, so most magically-gifted families generally demand heterosexual marriage.
CITY LORE.
Locale: The story will primarily take place in Delmare, the capital of Elyria; a prosperous coastal city of bustling harbors, elegant estates, flourishing gardens, and canals of turquoise waters that weave between districts.
Known For: The royal family, old noble houses, affluence, high-quality wine, turquoise waters, canals, large families, high-society soirees, dwindling magical population, long beachside boardwalk, exquisite botanical gardens, class divide, maritime commerce, siren and nereid mythology, seafood dishes.
