The light of the campfire illuminated the three faces of the party Sven's face grimmest of them all, deep in planning for their next mission. His assistant, a rogue who aided him in the finer arts of his craft, Jeana was most insistent that he discuss his plan for invading the lord's castle, much to his irritation. Like all matters he put his mind to the woman would not simply allow him to work his craft alone. While he admitted that there was a time for a lighter touch, those times he found were rather rare.
"Sven." Jeana said in a tone that could be considered patronizing. "There is no need for you to waste your time picking locks, allow me to clear the way for you." She said, insisting as she always did. He knew she thought him incapable, and while the thought did irk him, while he had been tempted time after time to replace her for an assistant that knew of his skill, he didn't. She was efficient, and that was something Sven praised. But she didn't understand, his bashing through every lock was not a lack of skill but for the very reason he kept her around.
"Very well Jeana." He said shifting forward, his heavy plate creaking as he leaned on the great sword in his possession, his eyes flicking towards the druidess of their party, his other assistant. She was less vocal, but he knew that Selune agreed with Jeana. The two of them far more relaxed so long as he allowed them input on his infiltrations. "However I still insist you leave the traps to me. We do not have time for you to waste disarming them with your little tools. My armor was designed with the intention of withstanding blows. Allow me to put it to use." He stated.
Jeana took a breath and looked to Selune, who was very diligently stirring the soup they intended to have for dinner. "Sven, your armor would be effective in that regard... But I think you shouldn't waste your time." She said, "After all, you always tell me that heavy stealth is all about not leaving any witnesses? Best to save the armor for eliminating witnesses... Better for our purses too." She muttered that last part as she remembered the bill from the blacksmith that repaired his armor the last time he barrelled in to 'disarm' the traps.
Selune finally piped in, "It would also be a more effecient use of my mana..." She said quietly not truly wanting to deal with the fighter's delusions. She had only joined the two of them at Jeana's insistence that she could manage the man.
Sven rubbed his rough beard as he considered the two for a moment before he nodded, "Yes... the smith's bill did cut into our profits. Very well, though I do think you two are missing the bigger picture here." He said, "The faster I sneak through the lord's keep and well as all the other dungeons we face, the faster we are all paid." He said matter of factly. "I understand that you think this lighter stealth of yours is useful, but eventually you need to start pulling your weight Jeana. I would like you to invest in some armor so you can help me in eliminating witnesses more efficiently." He held up his hand to still her complaints that always followed, "Yes I know that you feel clearing the way to be more efficient, but if we just get another healer, we can clear twice the amounts of rooms, traps, and leave no witnesses."
Jeana blinked as she considered Sven's words, or at least made a show of considering them. In truth she was just allowing herself to stew on the fact that she had been desperate enough to start working again to entertain the man before her, "I shall consider it." She said flatly deciding to spare Selune from another argument in the attempts to convince the fighter that simply leaving no witnesses was not the same thing as 'sneaking' anywhere. While yes, technically no one could say definitively they were at any of their jobs, this job in particular needed a bit more discretion than the others. "But for not this is the way I can benefit the party, so I need you to allow me to..." She took a breath as she brought herself to say the words, "...assist you in disarming the traps, and picking the locks. I need to earn my keep." She said feeling sick at having to give into the man's delusions of being a rogue and belittling her own skills once more.
She kept telling herself that this would be the last job they did together, but then she saw the carnage. So long as Sven was directed he was efficient, that much he didn't have any delusions about. A whirlwind of death, that was the only reason she allowed the man to keep his delusions and brought her friend along with her to trail after the man.
"I shall allow it for now Jeana." Sven said magnanimously. "I understand it will take time for your skills to be at the level mine are, in the meantime you may assist me in the manner you are able." He said, taking a bowl of stew from Selune as she handed them out, settling into another night of planning and attempting to guide his assistant in her skills as a rogue to little avail. He would not give up on her, eventually she would learn the value of heavy stealth and learn from him.
