Greetings all. I have been playing ttrpgs since I was in junior high but have never tried a more free form rp style. Does anyone have advice for someone with little experience in forum based rp? Thanks for taking time to read this and I hope to meet some new friends on this site. Have a good night.

Welcome aboard! ^^

Sorry for the ambiguity of my post. I have only ever rped with systems like D&D or Pathfinder. When I said free form I meant rping without die rolls. Pardon my ignorance but does style imply setting or format?

well it would work the same way, you just would use "Try to" or "Attempt to" When doing things that involve trying to attack or do soemthing to another character. As the dice in dnd usually determines if your hit lands or not.

Other than that it's just like writing a story as you're literally typing it rather than verbally telling it. It may take some getting used to and there might be people who are willing to use dice rolls with you if you prefer that.

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I'll poke around the site some more and try to get a better handle on this style of rp. Thank you for the warm welcome.

You're welcome. There's possibly more to it in differences besides that, in which other people can fill in or correct me on, so you'll have lots of help for adjusting to the site.

Sorry, I couldn't reply post haste, I was doing a reply.

I agree with readlliea, rolling the dice in this instance would be you letting anyone else know what you want to partake in.

For example, I have a couple of muses I brought here, and I don't like to limit my muses to a certain theme/genre. I am crossover friendly, yet I may have more than one "reality" or AU for my muses. I also NPC several muses in the world that I have created. I am the DM, and I control what I want to allow my muses to partake in.

Please do not apologize for not knowing this or that, we all start somewhere, and as creators, we should be willing to assist one another in our quest to create.
Just as an example...I have been rp'ing for over 15 years. I have a manuscript over 500 pages handwritten, yet I never delved into a fantasy/multiverse/sci-fi sl with them until I met my awesome partner on here who took me to that other level.

Any rp site should take you to the next level or expand on whatever YOU decide you want to delve into. I love this site because there are forums where you can explore and find your niche. It's not complicated, and trust me when I say that there are people who will be willing to start at the bottom and rise to the top with you.

Welcome to I.S. Laughing Rat, I hope you have fun while you are here. It looks like people have already given you some advice. So a repeat of it isn't likely to be helpful. If I had anything to say it would be to read some of the other stories already posted and get a feel for how people write. It's what I did for a bit and helped me. Good Luck and Happy writing.

Welcome to Inner Sanctum, friend!
