What an active and passionate community I've stumbled on!
Like many of you, I've played Dungeons and Dragons for a while, enjoyed Fate Core, and a handful of other tabletop role playing games. Role playing aside, I've always been drawn to world building. Writing has played a large role in that, usually as a companion to drawings. In that regard most of my work resembles either short stories or encyclopedia entries - but still prose! I tend to read a lot of non-fiction, science fiction, magical realism, and very low fantasy, but I've learned that to me, when role playing, the players are more important than the setting. I'm new to the play-by-post scene but I'm keen on joining a group after observing for a bit to get a feel for collaborative story-telling.
Some books I've enjoyed for the writing and world building aspects:
Xenogenesis Trilogy - Octavia E. Butler
Remembrance Of Earth's Past Trilogy - Liu Cixin
Dune - Frank Herbert
Titus Groan - Mervyn Peake
Clan Of The Cave Bear - Jean M. Auel
Children Of Time - Adrian Tchaikovsky
Barlowe's Guide to Extraterrestrials - Wayne Barlowe
I'll be writing with you all soon. Until then, thanks for sharing your work.
