Hi all, Class Historian here (he/him, 30), but you can call me Jack if you just really hate BRONCHO.

I’ve been RPing on and off for the past 16 years or so and bounced around as forums opened and closed; hoping to stick around here for a while!

I tend to lean towards fantasy and sci-fi, but I also love historical fiction. I’d say I’m a competent writer, but still trying to find my own style. I bounce between super flowery, intricate prose and real sparse, spartan writing. I keep pretty busy in the meatspace, so one or two posts a week of maybe 800-1200 words is my standard, but honestly, I’d love to shorten that down and speed it up! Big fan of OOC chatter and generally goofing off with RP partners and talking shop, so I’ll probably be hitting up the site’s chat function next.

See y’all round!

Welcome to Inner Sanctum, New Blood!

First and foremost; it's nice to meet you! Welcome to our home! If you haven't already, please make sure you read your welcome letter in the top right! It should be the little icon! That's where all of your future messages will end up!

( There's multiple pages to this; just click/tap the arrows! )

Second! I bet you're wondering how to start Role Playing and where to go! I think it's pretty fun to explore the forums, and I highly recommend doing so! Most thread homes, if not all, have a pinned post at the top of them to tell you what goes there!

However, the Request Threads are pretty self explanatory; Here's a Link! There's plenty to look through, but you could also build your very own! Tell people what you're all about and get those writing partners! Take your time though; there's never any pressure! If you were looking for an open story you can just jump in straight away, you can find them in Unfinished Tales!

Next, I've created A Sanctum Tour to help find a lot of cool places on site! There's plenty to do while waiting on replies or to give yourself a break every now and then! But, these are some of my favorites! The first shout out goes to The Sanctum Tavern! Here you can find many a thing! By the Hearth can be found there and has many wonderful discussions; my personal favorite is where everyone talks up their writing partners! Want to see some cute pets or share your own? Pets of the Sanctum is where to go! Feeling up for a challenge? Check out the Monthly Writing Challenge and give it a whirl!

And, there's so so so~ much more! Please take the time to explore!

I think that's everything... Oh! I'm Mio, by the way! Just a friendly changeling and hydration bot! You can find me and several others in Sanctum's Chat Room! If you have any questions, you can always pop in there for help! I will say though, the best people to ask are staff! Green Names are Heralds and Hot Pink Names are Virtuosos which are the best to ask questions! Blue Names are Moderators and Purple Names are the Administrators, which help with tech support and discipline! You can find out which are online via the home page! On PC it'll be to the right of the screen, and on mobile it'll be near the bottom!

Now, get out there and write! May your muses sing for you!

Hello and welcome! I am also a big fan of historical fiction. Favorite genre actually! I would love to chat more. What is your favorite time period?
Thank ya for the warm welcome!

The period I probably have the most experience in reading and writing is medieval Europe; two of my favorite novels from this period are Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman, a dark fantasy story which takes place in France in 1348, and Hollow by Brian Catling, a freaky semi-horror story that follows a band of depraved mercenaries as they travel across 1500s Boshian Netherlands with a divine oracle. Both have elements of fantasy in them, and I love stories that blend reality with fiction!

However, definitely been branching out beyond medieval fiction. Love western stories, love French history, Greek/Roman stories (Song of Achilles my beloved), and I’ve been delving more into the stories and literature of other regions. Also love any stories inspired by Middle Eastern history and culture, which can be more difficult to come across! Haven’t written any stories/RPs about it, just a ton of non-fiction, but I’m also fascinated by prehistoric civilizations and peoples as well. Really, I’m just a big ole history nerd.

How about yourself? Any particular time periods that always draw you in?

Those sound fascinating! I tend a bit more towards realism Myself but I can definitely understand the appeal of adding in a little something extra. Always spices things up a bit.

I am comfortable with pretty much all of Western Civ starting with the Greeks up until about WWII and have done RPs in settings scattered throughout that time line. I tend towards Medieval/Tudor England (give me something with the war of the roses and I would swoon) and the Regency period as my Go to's. But I also enjoy Western and have found myself drawn to the world wars as of late.

Would you like to move this conversation to DMs? I would be happy to chat more!

Welcome to the Sanctum! We're really glad to have you here with us. I haven't written historical fiction in literal ages, and cannot wait to see what stories you bring to life here.
