Lots of great info there! Clears a lot up for me. And I think it would work great for Mirabelle and her troupe to be hired as entertainment, then get pulled into whatever's going on. Or maybe the discussions held there stir a subconscious motivation she didn't know she had, and give her something to stand for for the first time in a long time.

I'm thinking through her origin story a bit more and how her curse works. Does it make sense for her to call upon one of the primordials, or are they more like ancient gods from long ago? Either way, she calls upon something to grant her talent if she makes her own sacrifice. It's a one-time thing, but the price is an illness or disorder or collection of symptoms that saps her strength and energy and immune system if she doesn't continually consume something-or-other as medicine.

I've changed a little bit about how the curse works, and most of it I'll leave up to discovery. But in short, it's more of a one-time sacrifice where she gained her talent but sacrificed her health to get it, in a way. She has to create a special medicine from certain ingredients to keep her body going, or else her immune system and her strength take a huge downturn. Maybe what she has to do to maintain her health isn't necessarily taboo in Denhart, but she still mostly keeps it a secret in order to maintain her reputation in other nations. She's also pretty ashamed of what she's done, even if it's not considered that bad in Denhart, because she regrets it strongly. She harbors a love-hate relationship with dark magic because it gave her everything and took everything away in the same breath. She isn't in servitude to a specific deity, but rather made a one-time sacrifice that will cost her for the rest of her life.

I'll add that to my character sheet then post it. I'm loving how in-depth the lore is so far.

They are gone, they left the planet a long time ago because they kept in-fighting, so they went and found their own unique domains lol. But! They have many descendants; powerful beings abound, so you can use them as inspiration to make your chosen powerful being!!

That's a truly wonderful exploration of a curse. I really like it.

I'm glad you like that as well! I need to edit the lore dump to add that bit about the Priodies leaving 😂

Yes! They get something good from them. Fishing, farming...

What if... what if they make them work on a really dangerous, magic-poisonous (like literal magic diseases, almost like breathing in pure radiation over years, but on the lower end) experiment, like attached to that large military complex is a mago-lab (for their astronomy and biology and mago-biology research) where they basically have slave workers (maybe we can have a non-human species mostly inhabiting this island, and the Vleugs [they themselves looking like humanoid eagles, people with wings and strange skin or scales and such, maybe other bird-like beings, maybe something similar to a flying vampire; think that ancient flying vampire from Underworld] see them as inferior) working on some dangerous experiments that make their population sick with bizarre magical illnesses over time and the Vleugs don't want to take responsibility and act like they didn't do anything wrong.
I think it would make a lot of sense for a monster hunting academy to be here if they're doing experiments on monster biology -- monster fighters have to learn these things in order to better, well, fight monsters. The "beast essence infusion," where decoctions and potions made of monster essences are transfused into the veins of humans to give them better vision and hearing, a longer life, and better agility and strength, is extremely dangerous and kills more boys than it leaves mutated. Maybe this is one of the experiments the Vleugs have created for the purpose of monster hunting in their mago-lab. (Forgive me from ripping lore from the Witcher. It's my main source of inspo at this point LOL, aside from general Norse mythology which is my specialty.)

Oh, and @flubnugget, your character is cool as all get out. I absolutely love her. Good job!

To this point. I think I'm going to edit my character ONCE AGAIN lol. I want him to be a proper Vleug: a winged human/part griffin beast hunter, no mutations, just properly trained with a few special powers attributed to his race. I'm really liking how world building is coming along, and it's giving me lots of inspiration! Sorry I keep changing my characters around lol, it's just, the further we go into world building, the more ideas I get!

I must correct you here: they do not have humans in Vleug. Vleugs think humans are poopy, lol. He'd be the Vleug variant of Denhartians (a humanoid species that is not human). They would've been made by The Sun Breather and The Merkatror. They have a natural affinity for air-based magicks, they are naturally talented at reading and understanding the stars and the sky, and they have the more gifted ones with lightning/storm/weather abilities.

IN FACT, HOLY CRAP I LOVE THIS, at night, some (or all!!!) of them have this glowing blue light littered with stars under their skin. You can see it under the moonlight!!! They are often pale with violet undertones, blue undertones, or golden undertones. The glowing sky can also vary in colour: dark violet, a beautiful golden sheet covered in twinkling stars...
They also have vibrant eye colours. They almost glow.

Tbh a very good parallel for the vibe is the Awoken from Destiny (but note the details are rather different and they are fundamentally different!).

So Eirik could be a Valisgth, the name of the species.

Don't worry about changing him, it is time for that now anyway :p

Oh and, I almost forgot: don't worry about the Witcher thing. I get it. Just remember to create your own original lore from it :)

Also, the monster research: I have this obsession with monster hunters and researchers and academies for this. If you want, we can cooperate on this because I have an old monster hunter character who could totally be the head of the institute. They study monsters to hunt them... as far as the students know :)

This is giving me SO much inspiration right now. I'm off making another character based around this. Sorry lol!

I need to read more of what has already pondered but as far as monster hunting and research goes, I've been on a huge addiction for stuff like that the past few days. I would love to tag along on that.

Alright! Tyt and ask any questions you need, you are definitely welcome to join!

Alright, so I was thinking and realized we probably need a very important question answered:

Which countries are allied with which? Which countries have better or worse relations with others?

Nannallia and Karvia I think love each other. They are close to each other in an east-west way, and Denhart is to the south-west of the continent and south-west-ish of the Fae, but you already know there are tensions there. Denhart and Nannallia don't really have an alliance but they leave each other alone, more or less. Like diplomatic neutrality.

The Vleugs hate everyone and they're very uppity and holier-than-thou, so they also don't form alliances, you already know they keep dark dirty secrets from the others.

So I'd say diplomatic neutrality, an annexed island under the Vleugs, and an alliance between the Fae and the steampunk zone.

Btw, I think humans would be scattered around the world, but most of them would be in Karvia.

Tiernan an Siathán-Dubh was born on the outskirts of the southern border with Denhart, in the wild untamed forests of Nannalia many flights away from the Fae capital. The village in which he was born was quickly destroyed by the biological abominations which the Necromantic royalty of Denhart produced shortly after his birth, killing most of the villagers as well as his parents at 4 years old. As is Nannalian Law, he was placed in the nearest orphanage further inland.
In truth, Tiernan cannot fondly recall his time at the orphanage. He was constantly tormented by the other children, getting into petty fights over small disagreements, and getting beat as punishment by the caregivers. What he can say positively of that orphanage was that it taught him how to fend for himself and not expect any affection, as well as forge his strong faith in the Dhá Ghealach, or the Twin Gods of the Moon from many days spent praying under the light of moon bathed nights.
At the age of 11 he was randomly selected by the Kingdom's inner-circle to be sent to the Fae capital in the form of a cobalt envelope, no further information disclosed at least to him. After arriving in the metropolitan city in wagon (In which he was sure he'd be killed upon arrival) He was quickly swept up and trained in the art of The Masquerade: The lies, deception, agility, enchantment, illusion, and intellect of the charlatans which fill its ranks. Through the years he became increasingly aware of the fact that he was selected for two reason: 1, his innate ability to defend himself in various different situations; 2, his peerless beauty, which was always noted even as a child to be even greater than is typical for a Faerie- a beauty that would be exploited and honed as a tool for his duties as a spy of the Kingdom.

His adolescence has shaped him into a stern, iron-willed young man with great deduction and instinct. Despite his coldness he actually has a great, dark sense of humor, a love for theater, poetry, literature, and the tendency to curse. He has a mischievous spirit as Fae are inclined to. He is slow to develop personal relationships as he has never even had a true friend, but delights in the occasional fling or orgy with man or woman like most other Fae his age but dialed up to 11.

Proving himself to be a spy worth his salt, he was given the assignment of spying on the Koraki red-head princess, Allara, for the upcoming Inter-realm meeting. He, of course, departed for the trip with haste.
