"I am Regnart Seht and my name is a reflection of my true self."

⸻⠀the self⠀⸻

On the surface, Seht can be described as a stoic young man. It's easy to mistake him as being emotionless, but the truth is that it takes an intense amount of emotional energy and mental fortitude to maintain a calm and collected demeanor in stressful situations. He likes to hide behind his poker face because the young man knows all too well how much a person can be manipulated when they wear their hearts on their sleeve. However, he is still a person beneath his expressionless mask.

Regnart Seht is neither an angel of pure good nor a devil of pure evil. Instead, he is something much more. He is human, with both love and hatred in his heart, both chaos and order in his mind, and both good and evil in his soul. By accepting both sides of himself and denying himself neither, he can achieve true balance and inner harmony.

It is not always easy to accept the worst parts of yourself and live with your regrets, but it is something we all have to learn to do. Seht has his fair share of habits and tendencies.

When his riches are bountiful, and he has plenty of excess, then of course it's easy to be altruistic. He genuinely enjoys helping others and doing the right thing. The joy of being good is its own reward, but that doesn't always put food on the table or coin in the pocket.

You need to get your own house in order before you start helping your neighbor. When he gets desperate, he often turns to logic and can become quite pragmatic when he does. He can be downright cruel if it's for the greater good, but that cruelty also applies to himself. He does not fear or shrink away from self-sacrifice.

He accepts pain and fear for what they are. Merely warning systems designed to alert one to dangerous behavior. He does not discard them or go out of his way to try to avoid them. He simply doesn't let them rule over his decision making.

To play the game you need to follow the rules. To win the game you need to know the rules well enough to use them to your advantage. Seht follows the law because breaking them gets you in trouble with those in authority. The best way to live a peaceful life is to follow the law. When people break the law, they also forfeit the protection society provides. When other people do this, Seht will be quick to use this as an excuse to punish them. This convenient truth is justice.

Seht follows the rules until they get in his way. He will bend and break the rules if he feels like the reward is worth the risk or there is a suitable chance he can evade the consequences. However, he can't evade the guilt he would feel if he did this for selfish reasons like petty ambition. If it's for the greater good he will do what he must, even if it means he must face the consequences of his actions. That is why he fights. One should not kill. One should not visit harm upon another. If everyone followed these simple rules then everyone could enjoy peace, but that's not how the world is. Thus, Seht must remain ready to fight. Not just to defend himself, but to defend those who can't protect themselves. He is ready to stain his hands with blood, his soul with sin, and his mind with guilt if it is in the defense of the greater good.

When Seht is right, he is decisive. When he is wrong, he is reckless and impulsive.

When Seht is right, he is determined, dedicated, and resolved. When he is wrong, he is stubborn.

When Seht is right, he is just and true. When he is wrong, he is self-righteous and vindictive.

When Seht is strong he is brave. When Seht is weak, he is foolhardy.

ALIGNMENT: Balanced. Absolute order leads to totalitarianism. Absolute chaos leads to anarchy. Neither is ideal. Somewhere in between must exist a healthy balance where we can enjoy the freedom of chaos and the safety of order. Seht is good and kind to those he loves, Seht he is evil and cruel to those he hates.
LIKES: Efficiency, effectiveness, form & function, truth, justice, love, peace, adventure, fighting, martial arts, skill, growing stronger, reaching new heights, seeing new places, meeting new people, and learning new truths.
DISLIKES: Cruelty, injustice, unfairness, violence, foolishness, and lies.

APPARENT AGE: Late teen.

MODIFICATIONS //
None yet.

SCARS / MARKINGS //
His body is covered with various scratches, lashes, and burns. Mainly on his back, legs, forearms, and shoulders. His face and front toros are mainly unscathed, though.

⸻⠀the ability and tools⠀⸻

From the moment Seht was old enough to hold a weapon he found one placed there in his hands. He was used as a child soldier where pain and fear became his first teachers. He survived long enough to warrant some real training. Too poor to afford armor or weapons, he specialized in hand-to-hand combat. When he manifested a talent for magic, he was taught enough to be useful, but not much more than that. He had to figure out a lot on his own. He ended up combining his martial arts and magical abilities to develop his own method of fighting.

ABILITIES //
Seht is a close quarters specialist who thrives in the frontline. He has combined practical martial arts and rudimentary magic into his own fighting style, but it's still very rough around the edges. Seht has both training and practical experience in combat using a variety of weapons and armor, but he didn't really get to own those items. He quickly came to realize that his body was the only weapon he could be certain he'd be able to rely on. Seht only knows the fundamentals of magic. However, since he has been forced to rely on only them, he is very strong with those fundamentals. His ability to control and regulate his mana and is exceptionally well developed. His ability to sense magic is also very well fine-tuned. Seht never actually hated his enemy and didn't actually care to try and win battles or earn commendations. His sole goal was to survive. Thus, his fighting style and most of his spells are defensive.

At the end of the day, his abilities are just his best attempt to survive each battle long enough to reach the next one. He would greatly benefit from proper guidance and mentorship.

On top of these combat skills, Seht has a number of mundane life skills. He can sow, cook, clean, and camp. He can hunt and forage in terrain familiar to him like the forests, plains, and coasts. He is pretty unfamiliar with deserts, towns, cities, and other terrains. Obviously, he can properly dress and cook a kill he's familiar with. Additionally, he can count and read. He is capable of handling basic first aid. He had to be taught to read so he could learn magic, but he turned out to be a disappointment.

SPELLS //
Amplify: To compete with adults Seht learned to channel his mana into his body to increase his body's physical abilities. Now that he himself is an adult, he can use this magic to compete with monsters and creatures beyond the scope of normal human beings. However, he is still limited by his current ability as a novice. He is still very far off from being able to trade blows with a dragon, but he can trade blows with a very tough orc despite his smaller stature and build. Seht is very comfortable with this spell, to the point that he can passively activate it to a limited degree. However, if he actively focuses on it, he can get a greater result. In theory, this could be used on allies, but Seht has no experience doing this.

Protect: Protect is a common spell where the magical practitioner manifests magic as raw kinetic energy to deflect or cancel out the incoming kinetic energy of an attack. This is usually done by creating a small shield, barrier, or field around the caster to block the attack. A field covers the entire practitioner. This would guarantee that they would block the incoming attack but only if they empower the whole field with enough power to stop the incoming attack or attacks. This is very inefficient because any part of the field that isn't attacked is just wasted magic. A barrier blocks one general direction, but in many cases, this is still very wasteful. The smaller the shield and the shorter amount of time the shield exists, the more efficient the spell is. However, the tradeoff is that you leave yourself exposed the most with this form of the spell.

Those two spells and are the core of Seht's fighting style. They make him a formidable warrior, but he can't turn the tide of a war on his own. He can't call down lightning or throw a giant fireball that will clear the room, but he can punch really, really hard. Beyond these core spells, Seht does know a few other utility spells.

Illuminate: This is another rudimentary spell Seht was taught to make him useful. He can make an item shine with light. You could accomplish the same results with a torch. Torches were actually pretty readily supplied to him, so he did not use it much. A better mage could make multiple items light up or make lights float in the air, but Seht could only make a single item shine.

First Aid: This is a rudimentary healing spell. It's the first one healers of his home region can learn. Unlike his other spells, Seht does have practice using this on others. It's the main spell his owners had him learn to make use of his magic. Unfortunately, he didn't show much talent for healing magic, even though he desperately did want to heal his comrades. This disappointing display was one of the reasons why his owners did not put much stock in his magical ability. He still practices it because he it is still better than no treatment, but you could accomplish similar results with bandages and salve. This spell cannot heal anything that bandages, and salve wouldn't take care of, but it's not very demanding in terms of mana either. Since Seht is bad with this spell it takes him a lot of focus and concentration. In terms of mana consumption, he is probably not as efficient as he should be, as well.

ATTIRE //
Seht generally dresses in all black clothing for night raids. This is the outfit he uses to escape his owners. He wears traveler's clothing under a hooded mantle that also masks part of his face. He looks pretty suspicious.

GEAR //
Seht is poor so he has no quality weapons or armor. He does have a good solid backpack and belt pouch. He does have a utility knife that can pass for a weapon, but it's not meant for that.

INVENTORY //
Seht has a sleeping bag attached to the bottom of his backpack. Attached to the side of his backpack is a canteen that is filled with water. Inside his backpack he carries a few day's worth of rations, an extra pair of clothing, and a blanket. Seht's knife is kept handy, hanging from his belt. He has a small coin purse filled with a pitiful amount of coin in one of his belt's pouches. He has some edible nuts he foraged in another pouch. He has clean bandages in his backpack and a small amount of salve in his belt pouch.

⸻⠀the story⠀⸻

Seht's story is a common one from the region he is from. As an infant he was orphaned due to war because the nobles couldn't decide whose name got to be on what patch of dirt. As an orphan he became a ward of the state charged with the duty of repaying the state's care for him. That was their excuse for drafting him into their war. His parents were serfs before he died and so he too was also considered a serf. He was basically property. A commodity to be owned and used. This commodity was used for war. They did not even bother to tell him his real name. Mainly because no one knew it. His parents did not have a family name as was common for people of their station. On good days he was called boy. On bad he was called arrow fodder. His owners only taught him how to fight and how to follow orders. Somehow despite it all he managed to survive long enough to flee captivity. Along the way, he picked up a few things. He has traveled long and far in the hopes of escaping anyone who might care that he is a deserter. He gave himself the name Regnart Seht when he escaped. A new name for a new life. His skills and abilities were just enough to steal back his freedom, but that just gets him to the starting point of his life. Now he hopes to write a real story, but he doesn't even really know who he is or what he can do in this world.
