Who are you, how long have you been writing and what kind of things do you like to write?
Hey! You can call me Bean. I am new to this and have a lot of catching up in order to make this the most useful experience!
My WIP story is the only thing I write. I started officially writing this in 2002 with off and on focus on this project over the span of many years, it has pretty much spanned my adult life. One day I would like to finish it and in my wildest fantasies see it published and made into a really good adaptation to film. Of course that is likely NOT to happen and even if it did my characters will still live on on my imagination. Hard to define the specific genre- some have suggest it falls under gay literature or fiction, drama, romance, romantic drama...
I have had this story in me forever. Until now, I never knew what I did as a kid was called RP. We called it make pretend and as we got older we simply referred to it as playing "the game". Our characters were usually borrowed from movies or whatever was hot on our minds and we would play the characters we liked... my main character for years was Billy, he stemmed from Emilio Estevez in Young Guns II aka Billy. Years later we saw Maximum Overdrive where he was again Billy... and we became obsessed with that movie. Then we saw Priscilla Queen of the Dessert and Adam became my thing and he evolved rather fast into what morphed into who is now my Christopher. My story centers around this character but he has been deeply developed into a character that is uniquely his own and the inspiration stems from many things. His world now includes Ben. I've always played male roles. Since kindergarten, I always did. I wondered why... my friends never seemed to care. My best friend always played female characters she wanted to emulate. I had an affinity for the hero male role or fallen hero? There has always something iiruiging to me about the male character in distress.
Even my male friend as a teenager and I would RP and I was playing a gay male character and he was playing a straight male but in our make out scenes together it worked for both because our fantasies suited us because I was actually a girl. He got to be touchy feely with a girl and I got to be sexy with a guy in whatever way I was imagining myself because it wasn't like he had to go along with pretending I was a guy... Odd and honest but true lol. I honestly always felt like I/we were the only kids who did this weird shiz but it turns out no wonder it was so easy to initiate new members into our gang when a new kid came along- we all did RP!
All these years later, I never thought that as an adult there may be a way to find other adults who do exactly what I used to do with my friends and would enjoy even now! When I write and go into story world and enjoy acting out scenes (if I am home alone of course) but I wish I had company there in my story world. Suffice to say, this story project that I need to get out evolved from said RP many years ago from several years' worth of evolving storyline and evolving character sources from I don't even know what point.. but what led to where I am now started at around 13-14 and I am now 39.
This is why I am here- to find others to "play with" and write with to help the creative flow of developing dead areas in my storyline. I feel it may take the perspective of someone outside my own head in the the role of secondary characters to help with this! :) It would be great to find others to hop into some of my characters' roles because I am lacking the spontaneity and unexpectedness that is naturally occurring in real interactions between people when I try to develop scenes and dialogue. I have a few characters who are very flat and I don't know much about them, if anything. Writers forums aren't really geared towards this sort of creative process or inspiration.
My story spans several years. Either 1984 and flashes back or more closer to the present and flashes but up to 1984. However, the bulk of the story spans 1973-1982 in NYC. I feel I may be hard pressed to find a partner who is into my story world but I hope I find someone!!
