93d3f05ea5e73a60f1aa6684014e7b26.jpg

King Uther Pendragon - the King believes in order and traditions very strongly, and he abhors magic. He takes more stock in military strength than diplomatic matters and he rules with an 'iron fist'. He is respected by his people, but it is more out of wariness than any true liking of the King. This is not something that bothers Uther as he feels Kings and Queens should be above the common people and interact with them as little as possible - to be someone they look up to and obey rather than someone they can approach. As a father he is fair, but stern and doesn't often show physical affection, a word of praise given sparingly and free-time with his children nearly non-existent and if it does happen, a lesson on royalty, ruling and the kingdom is often involved.

c4151c7a47e496a00a0b5729810c2a8f.jpg

Queen Ygraine - kind, sweet and understanding, Ygraine is the softer side of the monarchy and she often tempers her King as best she can. The people look more kindly on her, but in truth don't know much about her beyond the charity work she orchestrates. As a Queen she is quiet and more behind-the-scenes. As a mother she is doting, affectionate and easy to laugh - though, she does tend to spoil her daughters (she claims Morgana, too, even if the other doesn't appreciate it) and lacks in most kinds of discipline, letting them have their way...perhaps to make up for their father's aloofness.

7223b83eaac8756f1cb7812749c5f451.jpg

Princess Morgana le Fay - an offspring of King Uther's first wife (a woman from a simple noble family) who died in childbirth, Morgana may be the elder child, but she is not first in line to inherit the throne. Due to Queen Ygraine being of higher pedigree (a princess when she married Uther) and her place as the current Queen, it is Artheia who will become Queen. This has created a great resentment in Morgana. Combined with how mostly absent her father's presence has been, she has grown into an angry, bitter young woman who hides her calculating mind behind a flawless facade.

4eb8b06fac25a44f92a1711fac5960f5.jpg

Prince Kay - being Queen Ygraine's younger brother and the youngest child of three royal children is never easy, but Kay does it with diligence and duty-bound loyalty. As the Commander of the Royal Army, he holds a great amount of power but would never think to turn against his sister and therefore will never turn against Uther. He doesn't, however, agree with all the King's policies and chafes at his restrictions. As an Uncle he is doting and affectionate, stern when need be and always ready to help his nieces (if Morgana would give him a chance) get out of trouble - provided it's a small enough offense not to warrant more punishment than a good talking to. In truth, Kay is more a father to Artheia and Morgana than Uther is.

0e14b8deb57a418bc95cf18d7ad34fcd.jpg

Gwynfor (Gwenevere/Guinevere - gender-bent) - son of King Æthelstan of East Anglia, Artheia's betrothed since birth and her best friend. They grew up together and there is no one Artheia confides in more about her personal life and internal struggles. Gwynfor views Artheia as a sister and is fiercely protective of her, but he can't see marrying her...a problem for the future.

1ec7abdad927cd6c9c4be5a9227c3d22.jpg

Lancelot - the most talented Knight of the Round Table. He is a Noble from a high-born family, roguishly handsome and more than knows it, entirely a lady's man. Under his bravado and charm is a loyal heart, though, and behind that dazzling smile is a cunning mind. He is Artheia's First Knight and he knows his Princess through and through. Of everyone, he is the most likely to embrace Artheia's unorthodox decisions, but only after arguing with her extensively about them to make sure she knows what she's doing and is committed. Once that is established, his loyalty is unquestionable.

de043215b9f8ab2fc1b7dd377e5ac309.jpg

Galahad - youngest Knight of the Round Table and the 'purest'. He is the 9th child of a low-born lord, is goodhearted, a bit naive, kind and entirely about righteousness and helping people. It was his dream to be a Knight and despite all odds, he passed the training required.

1bfae7ed16ee5b9dfa6d5a9521226b4a.jpg

Bors - loud, blunt, crass and always ready for a fight, one would describe Bors more as a bear than a man - and certainly not a Knight of the Round Table! - but there is no doubting his heart belongs to Camelot. Surprisingly tender beneath his gruff exterior, he watches Artheia almost as closely as Leon does, caring far more than he lets on and seeing the Princess as another one of his many 'bastards' - as he loves to call his countless children. The fact that he's had them all with one woman and he's been made a minor Lord in his own right matters not to him.

0470096990b494b6051dcda6acfb5256.jpg
97b08449a9dc87d4e311fe73a3f99e28.jpg

Tristan and Trise - orphans from a young age and twins coming from a very low-born family, Tristan is already a Knight and his sister, while not of the same status, works with her brother under the radar. They are the best archers and trackers in Camelot, perhaps even in all of Albion. Quiet, contemplative and people of few words, they are often in the background of any event or activity, but their sharp eyes and ears miss nothing and their counsel, when given, is nearly flawless and always sound.

201400008c330cbedf09b6ae0cfdbe9b.jpg

Gawain - is the middle-child of a low-born family, formidable, fiercely loyal to Artheia, a skilled fighter...and a huge pain in the ass. He loves to be a rogue, pull pranks and always has a joke on his tongue. Despite these clownish tendencies and his flawless ability to get under Artheia and all the other Knights' skin, he is a trusted friend, a defender of the poor and has the utmost respect for women. Of all Artheia's friends and Knights, he has a particular soft-spot for Merlin to rival Artheia's own affection for the Warlock.

9c5fa2ff5d3e9598238778ca4c97b386.jpg

Leon - Artheia's mentor. Leon is a Knight from a high-born family who has served under both Uther and now Artheia. He helped train Artheia and makes it his personal duty to watch over the Crown Princess, advise her when it's needed and ensure that while Artheia follows her duty, she doesn't become someone she's not in the process.

e3c32f81271303b2953b5ab1bdb17972.jpg

Perceni (Percival - gender-bent) - born a commoner and a girl, Perceni has been told her entire life what she is to do and to be, and her entire life she's fought against it. Her grandfather, once a soldier in the King's Army, trained her in the use of a sword in secret, but warned Perceni that she was not to let others know of her skill. She kept that promise until her grandfather died. Now, with nothing holding her back, she is keen to prove her skill and her worth in a world of men.

50bdcd0f842b59ca6201a636bb74a8f8.jpg

King Lot - corruption and deceit are two apt descriptions for the ruler of Mercia, "the North", for his heart is as black and cold as the land he governs. Having gone to war with Camelot more than once, he is not open to peaceful negotiations just yet, though, if an opportunity should arise to pair his son with a certain Princess for the sake of 'peace', he might consider the offer....

716f4779a2e01cb30d037d62db6be043.jpg

Crown Prince Mordred - the son of King Lot, Mordred is a Crown Prince with incredible power and influence, but this has not made him generous or benevolent. He is ruthless, malicious and charming. Ambitious and patient, he is just biding his time until his father dies....or Mordred finds a way to get rid of him. Under the tutelage of Morgause, Mordred has become a rather proficient sorcerer and a follower of prophecy. This has brought him into contact with Merlin more than once and Mordred has developed somewhat of an obsession with the Warlock.

79b046af040fb044bc7d66ee4568fe8d.jpg

Morgause - a dangerous sorceress, Morgause seeks power and domination above all else. She trained Mordred in his magic and taught him the Dark Arts. Now her own power draws her to Camelot, where another youth's potential is starting to bloom. Now if only she could get rid of the Warlock who always seems to stand in her way....

- Sirens don't feel the pleasure of any sexual act unless they have consented to that act - no matter what it is (a kiss, oral, penetrative, touch, etc.)

- Siren abilities let their partner feel the pleasure they are giving the Siren - this is meant to create a deeper form of intimacy and connection.

- The Siren in Merlin is almost sentient because it has 'magic' of its own that is not connected to his Ancient Magic. He has also suppressed this side of him so severely that any chance it has to 'rebel', it does.

- Siren symbols (swirling symbols that appear on their body in silver or gold hues in moments of passion) only appear to one the Siren has had sex with. They will only mark people they love.

"First and foremost to note with Siren is the categorization of the species of Siren. For most humans, the title 'Siren' is enough, but in truth, there are three species of Siren and each is unique. The most numerous are Water Siren. They are known as Depth Sirens, Seiren Dyfnder or Siren y môr dwfn, which translates to 'Deep Sea Siren'.

The most vicious and bloodthirsty are the Harpies, or High Siren. What they were called in the Forgotten Tongue, men no longer know and do not seek to know. It is enough to kill these demonic creatures wherever one might find them.

Earthen Sirens are the most powerful of the Siren categories and yet they are the hardest to identify for their appearance closely mirrors that of humans. They are known as Siren o'r Ddaear; Siren of the Earth. They can have different hued skin tones, and horns, and all of the species has retractable fangs - or it has so been recorded.

Female Siren of the Earthen species can choose when to be alluring to men and they don't tend to seek out a lover until they are prepared to breed. The female of the species will only rarely take more than one lover at a time and can form life-bonds with a chosen partner. Only female Siren can reproduce Siren and they guard and covet their young closely, often raising them in seclusion. It has been noted on several occasions that the younger female Siren, no longer a child and not quite a woman, is far deadlier than a mature Siren and seems inclined toward bloodshed. This might be the reason they are kept in seclusion until reaching maturity.

Male Siren, unlike their counterparts, can not control when they appear alluring to other species and the male Siren's influence reaches across more species than a female Siren does. The male of this species is the culprit of most of the 'singing' that is heard and serves the purpose of arousing potential lovers, drawing them in, and fogging their minds so the Siren can more easily manipulate them.

Male Sirens are, contrary to folklore, the true reason for the species' reputation. The females are more numerous, more often seen, and therefore more often remembered, but the males are the true beguilers. Male Sirens take many lovers, often at once, and mark those they hold affection for rather than mere desire. When a male Siren has taken a lover and marked them, the singing serves a dual purpose of encouraging desire in their partner and as a conduit for energy transfer. Male Sirens are always interested and seeking sex, and one lover rarely satiates them. They do not consummate to breed as a male Siren cannot produce a Siren child, but rather they engage with lovers to survive. Once sexually awakened, a male Siren not only desires intercourse but needs it. Male Sirens take sexual energy from their lover and use it to sustain themselves. Singing helps to channel this process and make it pleasurable

Male Sirens enhance the fertility of female Siren when close by and a male Siren can choose when they are fertile themselves. Most of the male species possess Foresight, and while female Siren can possess the same power, it is never as strong, and rarely do images come through intact or often. Young male Sirens entering puberty are guarded fiercely by the Siren community as the emerging adolescent is extremely vulnerable during this time as they lure other species to them but are not yet mentally ready or mature enough to take a lover. To do so or to be forced to do so would cause great upheaval for the young male Siren and most would take their life.

Siren symbols tell a story of the Siren themselves and they acquire more as the years pass. If a Siren feels a strong affection, the creature will mark their lover with a symbol unique to that particular Siren. Males engage in this territorial claim more often than females as there is higher competition for males in terms of intercourse than females. A female Siren only engages in sexual relations in earnest when trying to procreate, otherwise, they are coy, dangerous predators who would just as soon kill a man or woman than make love to them. Aside from breeding, female Sirens are temperamental and will only bond with one lover at a time, sometimes for life. Neither male or female Siren discriminate between genders."

Abilities (not a comprehensive list):

Strength
Invisibility/Chameleon
Shapeshifting
Enhance Agility

Mental abilities - rare
Self-Healing
Enhanced senses
Armored skin
Prehensile hair
Synesthesia
Power absorbtion/transference
Phasing
Adoptive Muscle Memory

Places:

- Eastern Region - America divided into West and East, Resistance factions on each side - where this story takes place.

- North Utica - a small town about an hour and a half west of Chicago and now a Neutral Zone
- Cincinnati - Infested with Feral
- New York City - was a Neutral Zone, now a Mutant-Free Government Zone
- Chicago - Infested with Feral. The inner city is home to the main faction of the Eastern Region Resistance.
- Kettle Camp - two hours north of Chicago by car and located in Kettle Moraine.
- Lake house (safe house) - just over the Wisconsin border.

Key Words and Terms:

- Neutral Zone - a place where Mutants and humans/Normals have learned to live together, sometimes strained and sometimes easily.

- Ferals - Mutants gone wrong - infected with a strain of the virus that turns them into cannibalistic, frenzied hunting machines. Humans and Mutants can be turned into Ferals.

- The Fall - the spread of the Dark Fever Virus, the end, the apocalypse.

- Dark Fever Virus - a cure for cancer gone wrong.

- Cleansing - when the Government comes in and wipes out the Mutant population in an area

The Young Brothers' Lives and Timeline:

5 years since virus outbreak

3 years captive --- Kaleb

17 yrs when given trial serum ---Kaleb

18 yrs when the virus broke out - was just joining the military - stayed in the military for one year --- Kaleb

David was in the military 4 yrs before the virus outbreak - joined at 18

David was 22 yrs when the virus started - now 27 yrs

Kaleb was 14 yrs when David entered the army

Transmission of Virus:

DFV is transmitted via droplets/saliva, sweat, semen, and blood, but those things have to get into an open wound, the nose, mouth or eyes - or lower orifices.

There is an 'active' stage of infection and that is when the saliva/droplets, semen, blood and sweat are most concentrated, making the virus extremely contagious. The active period lasts up to 3 months after a person is infected.

Transmission after 3 months is only possible through blood as the virus has mutated its host completely and is not in a more dormant kind of state. The blood of an infected person must get the blood in the mouth, nose, eyes, lower orifices or wounds of an uninfected person for the contagion to spread. The virus is less likely to spread this way if people are careful - there is still a risk, but much better odds. This is why a Mutant and a Human can engage in intimacy without risk of spreading the virus after 3 month period, although it is recommended that people wait six months.

______

Kaleb can technically infect people with his blood, but not merely through them touching it. It would have to get into a wound, mouth, nose, etc. That's why the Government has turned the original strain of the virus in his blood into an aerosol. It is breathed in and suddenly Mutants are 'reinfected' with a version of the virus they are not used to AND it's tampered with further to target the mutated form of the DFV virus (the one all of the Mutant population has) and destroy it and essentially the Mutants themselves since the virus is in every cell inside them now.

Since Kaleb possesses the original strain of the DFV, he is technically a Mutant and a Feral, holding the keys to both evolved strains. His saliva acts as a preparatory dose of the 'cure', but is not a cure itself. Only his blood can cure Ferals - ie, turn them into Mutants. He cannot revert someone back to human.

Other Notes:

Places Kaleb's blood has been used
- New York
- North Carolina
- Twice in Tennessee
- West Virginia

- Reds: Always male. Usually bond with male riders. 50-60 feet long.

- Blacks: Usually male, rarely female. Usually bond with male rider if male dragon and female rider if female dragon. 45-65 feet long.

- Whites: Male or female. Male dragons will usually bond with male riders and female dragons will usually bond with female riders. 40-45 feet long.

- Blues: Always male. Will bond to either gender of rider, but 95% of the time, it's with a male rider. 35-40 feet long.

- Greens: Always female. Will bond to either gender of rider, but 98% of the time, it's with a female rider. 25-30 feet long.

- Minor Dragons: Any color, no gender correlates to specific colors. These dragons don't get any bigger than house cats. They are abundant and sometimes will stay with people who aren't dragonriders or even associated with the bigger dragons.

--- Gold, black, white and green dragons (females) can all breed and produce eggs. Humans, however, only like the gold (and sometimes black) to lay the eggs because they have bigger clutches and usually produce bigger dragons.

Whites and greens are usually sterilized to make sure they don't lay eggs, though, the urge to breed is still there and any male dragon will mate with them.

Weyr: Where dragons are kept, trained and bred. Riders also stay in the Weyr and make it their home.

Dragon Keepers: Ruling Council of Dragonriders that make all decisions and rules for Halasa and the Lav'häla Weyr. Usually older dragonriders, but not always. Mostly consists of gold, bronze and red riders as these dragons are naturally more dominant over other dragons in the hierarchy and their riders tend to follow suit. The ruling council never has an even number of members - always an odd number and never more than seven members at a time and never less than three. Five is optimal.

Dragon Singers: Those born with an innate ability to 'talk' to dragons and connect to them on a telepathic level despite not being a dragonrider or Imprinted upon by a dragonling. Dragon Singers cannot bond to one dragon as they hear them all. These people are essential to a Weyr because they can gauge the temperament and living conditions of the dragons - and calm them if need be. Dragon Singers are uncommon and often born from humble origins. Most have been female.

Young Wings: Candidates chosen to attend the hatching of a clutch of eggs. Male and female humans attend, most within the age range of 8-12. After Imprinting a dragonling, they remain at the Weyr and are raised by other dragonriders and staff.

Imprinting: A telepathic bond between dragonling and human. Dragon eggs will only hatch for the person they Imprint upon. If a dragonling does not Imprint, it never hatches and dies.

  • Name: Magnus Dothiaan
  • Position: Dragonrider
  • Age: 27
  • Kingdom of Birth: Nar'ettal. The Kingdom of Science in the West. Ruled over by a republic and always in the pursuit of more knowledge.
  • Appearance: 6'4" with large muscular build. Lightly tanned skin. Black hair that brushes his collarbones, often worn half-up. Well-groomed facial hair consisting of mustache and beard. Dark blue eyes. Various scars all over his body, and one noticeable scar through his right eyebrow.
  • Powers
    • Strength
  • Personality: Fiercely protective over the people and things he cares for. Remains clam, cool, and collected. Due to his size, most people stay clear of him and purposely avoid trying to piss him off, which is good, because he is not fun when angry. Those he cares for will see another side of him - soft and caring, although his overly protective nature can sometimes be rather suffocating.
  • Family:
    • Father: Rhoss Dothiaan
    • Mother: Sh'rilth Dothiaan
    • Sister: Zhuvo Dothiaan, age 20
  • Magnus grew up in a nice home in a nice neighborhood. He went to a decent school, had a little group of friends, always had dinner on the table. A promising future awaited him if he so chose to take it. His mother was a prominent scientist in his home Kingdom of Nar'ettal, and his father was a highly respected professor at the best university there. Magnus' sister Zhuvo was a childhood prodigy, the kid so smart they could barely keep up with her. When Magnus left for the Weyr, Zhuvo was only two, and he swore she was already far more intelligent than he was at the age of eight. And Magnus, well…He didn't fit in in Nar'ettal. At all. There was not a scientific bone in his body. his home was a place that was not full of love. His father, although a brilliant man, had no tolerance for things that displeased him, even in a Kingdom as free and progressive as Nar'ettal was. And the man was extremely particular about just about everything in existence. Both Magnus and his mother suffered at the hands of his father more than once - one single speck of dust in the wrong place enough to make his father snap and deliver colorful smatterings of bruises.

  • Name: Zahhak
  • Age: 19
  • Color: Bronze
  • Sex: Male
  • Length/Appearance: Bronze scales varying in shades. Thick build. Bright green eyes. A few bright green scales the same color as his eyes sit along the very edge of his tail. About 65 feet from nose to tail.
  • Position: Guardian (Potential Consort)
  • Personality: While his rider is away, Zahhak is very curious. He will often wander a way to investigate things, and is very easily distracted, especially by female dragons. When his rider is present, however, Zahhak is very obedient and task-oriented. He knows better than to get on his rider's bad side.
  • Rider: Magnus Dothiaan

  • Name: Inara Sigertem
  • Position: Dragonrider
  • Age: 23
  • Appearance: 5'6" with orange-red hair that falls in loose curls to her bellybutton. Green eyes. Freckles across her nose and cheeks. Thin to medium build with feminine curves. Large surgical scar along her right hip and thigh.
  • Kingdom of Birth: Tav'ari. The Kingdom of Magic in the North. Ruled by ancient traditions and rigid social structures.
  • Powers:
    • Unknown
  • Personality: Comes from a very long noble family full of impressive and infamous dragonriders. Not a natural-born dragon riding prodigy by any means, Inara has had to fight her whole life to excel in her craft. Her family is nearly oppressive with the expectations placed upon her. Because of this, Inara is often described as a work-a-holic, striving for perfection, goal-oriented, and a go-getter, sometimes so much that it's almost like she has blinders on.
  • Family:
    • Father: Z'ac Sigertem, one of five respected Dragon Keepers
    • Mother: Kihilthas Sigertem (deceased)
    • Siblings: None
  • Inara never wanted to be a rider. Her Father, Z'ac Sigertem, was of noble birth in their Kingdom of Tav'ari. It was Z'ac's bloodline that was meant to inherit his father's title, one he had given up when he became a rider, and so the title went to his brother. Due to the fact that so many in her family became Dragonriders and had to relinquish their formal lands and title, it was often traded between siblings over the years. She wanted to take her father's place of nobility in their home, to stay with her family and study magic.

  • Name: Ladhys
  • Age: 11
  • Color: Gold
  • Sex: Female
  • Length/Appearance: Golden scales that vary in hue. Golden eyes. Very large and thick build. One of the largest dragons known to ever exist, a whopping 85 feet from nose to tail.
  • Position: Queen, Guardian
  • Personality: Ladhys knows her size and power, and is not afraid to flaunt it at every possible moment. She is extremely unruly and very hard to handle. Highly temperamental. Was born with one wing slightly smaller than the other, taking expert skill for both dragon and rider to maneuver her, especially at her size. Very protective of her other Queen friends.
  • Rider: Inara Sigertem

Places/Landmarks:

- Rhaellor - Forested and mountainous Kingdom ruled by House Valaerys, has a younger monarchy of 400 years, largest of the continents, richest of the Kingdoms and most diverse

- Tesselle - A semi-arid continent ruled by many free cities and prominent lords, gets most of its commerce through trade via the sea, constantly at war and subject to power-struggles

- Maltor - Desert Kingdom ruled by House Blackmont, has a monarchy that is the oldest among the Kingdoms, on delicate terms with Rhaellor due to past bad blood but the two Kingdoms are currently bound through marriage

- Dalaria - An ancient and proud Sea-faring island ruled by House Alareon, the people are sailors of renown, ship-builders and traders, their warships make up the Alareon Fleet under the authority of House Valaerys

- Matalyx - Large islands off the mainland of Rhaelyx, destroyed by the Cataclysm. Ruled by the Alareons in the Ancient Days. Former and current home to the Shadow Cats.

- Rhaelyx - A continent with many active volcanoes and very old magic embedded into the very earth, destroyed in the Cataclysm. Ruled by the Valaerys in the Ancient Days. Home of fire magic.

  • Lyseni - Central port city in Tesselle
  • White Lotus - Pillow House in Lyseni
  • Ysila - Slum city by the sea in Tesselle

- Seleon Sea - Separates Tesselle and Maltor from Rhaellor.

- Valaekar - capital city of Rhaellor

People:

  • Tesselliens are brown-skinned, red or dark haired and dark-eyed
  • Maltorians are dark-skinned, black-haired and can be brown/black/grey eyed
  • Rhaellorians are light-skinned, usually brown/blond-haired and blue/brown/green/hazel eyed

Those of the Old Blood are descended through Houses Valaerys, Alareon, Balaeria and Saerela. These Houses often intermarry. People of these Houses tended to carry on the white hair and violet/lilac/purple eyes of the Old Blood

Houses:

Valaerys - Old Blood, Kings/Queens of Rhaellor
Alareon - Old Blood, Lords/Ladies of Dalaria
Blackmont - Kings/Queens of Maltor
Flay - an old minor House known for their ferocity and brutality
Banefort - a prominent minor House known for their ship-building and wealth
Balaeria - Old Blood, Lords/Ladies of Tesselle
Saerela - Old Blood, Lords/Ladies of Maltor

Notes:

- Queen Naera was visiting her family on Dalaria with the twins when their ships were attacked by pirates. The Alareon Fleet got to them in time as they'd already been chasing these pirates down and a battle ensued, but during it the Queen's lady carrying the four-year-old Jaeha was struck by an arrow and went overboard, taking the boy with her. It was thought that in the chaos of the fighting that he was lost.

- "Both sides of Lord Darion's family were well-known throughout the histories. On his father's side, the stories read of their brutality, the last name 'flay' coming from the way they peeled the skin from their enemies. His mother's family, the Baneforts, were among the earliest shipbuilders in the land, and made very smart investments when they sold their ships. When the two families united, they were practically unstoppable. But after Darion's mother's death, his father shut down completely. He was a shell of a man, a husk, and his business paid for it. His uncle stepped in and did as much as he could to keep them afloat, and it worked for a while, until his Uncle was murdered. That death only made his father's condition worse, the man not eating, not sleeping, not speaking. Darion did what he could, but with his father still alive, was limited. When Darion's father died six years ago, it was almost a blessing. And since that very day, he started his mission and hadn't stopped."

- "Vaemion Valaerys had been his father, but the man had passed away, leaving Jaeha's elder brother, Viserion Valaerys, to inherit the throne at fifteen. His mother - their mother - Naera Alareon had been the regent until Viserion turned eighteen at which point the young man had taken control of the Kingdom. Viserion had ruled Rhaellor for eight years, their father dead for eleven. For all accounts, his brother was a decent King. He'd married at seventeen, forming an uneasy alliance with Maltor by taking a Maltorian Princess, Cedra Blackmont, as his Queen. Their daughter, Shaenyra, was eight.

And Jaeha's twin was called Jaehaenys, a young woman of twenty-two with white hair and lilac eyes, a beauty by all accounts, her hand sought by every eligible Lord and Prince. Viserion had yet to name a betrothal for his sister, though, so she was still in Valaekar, the ruling city of Rhaellor and the place the Royal Family resided."

House Saerela

- Ability to control giant desert scorpions. This born-talent is still prominent among their people. The scorpions are creatures of a completely physical nature and don't bond to one person. They can only be controlled by House Saerela.

- This House is made up of nomads. They have absolutely no interest in ruling kingdoms and this why their bloodline is the purest out of the four Old Blood Houses - they do not make it a habit to marry their children to royalty or nobility in Maltor, Tesselle or Rhaellor, but make matches among their own people.

- It is very rare that House Saerela's bloodline mixes with others of the Old Blood and if they choose an outsider for whatever reason, it is always someone of the Old Blood from the other three Houses

House Balaeria

- Ability is mind-reading/telepathy and affinity for learning magic. Their bloodline is so diluted, though, that there hasn't been a proper Mind Bender in their House for longer than there has been a Fire Caster in House Valaerys (several hundred years). They do, however, still retain a spark for learning magic.

- House Balaeria might not be royalty, but they are an empire unto themselves. Their power is built on business negotiations, banking, and trade. They have incredible influence in Tesselle and their reach extends to Maltor, Dalaria, and Rhaellor as well. They often marry into noble houses in all three Kingdoms, sometimes to Old Blood and regularly to other Houses, as well for political and financial alliances.

- This is the oldest House out of the Old Bloods and they have always resided in Tesselle, before and after the Cataclysm.

House Alareon

- Ability to control and communicate with Shadow Cats, a species of giant feline that can dissolve their physical form into shadows. Shadow Cats only bond to one Alareon at a time, and only infrequently will they bond to another if their first Alareon dies.

- This seafaring House used to rule over several island chains in a volcanic region called Matalyx in the ancient days before the Cataclysm. Matalyx is where the Shadow Cats originated. When the Alareons fled, they took their own felines with them. The Shadow Cat population dwindled so much over decades, though, that the cats began to interbreed and eventually became extinct on Dalaria. It is rumored that they still exist on the ancient, broken islands of Matalyx, though.

- Alareons retain influence, wealth, and prestige through their war fleet and their close ties with House Valaerys, the Royal Family of Rhaellor. Intermarriage between the two Houses is quite common and together, their combined power means few challenge them, foreign or domestic.

House Valaerys

- Ability to control fire and an immunity to being burned. House Valaerys hasn't seen a Fire Caster in nearly a hundred years. The abilities of this House are suspected to be dormant rather than extinct, however, as the bloodline is still considered relatively unpolluted.

- House Valaerys is from the same volcanic region as the Alareons, but they lived on the mainland, the volcanos themselves - a Kingdom that used to be known as Rhaelyx before the Cataclysm. When House Valaerys fled, they renamed the lands they conquered Rhaellor in remembrance of the home they lost.

- This House is considered the most powerful in terms of land, resources, and people under their authority. They are the second-oldest House after House Balaeria and though they will marry those not of Old Blood on occasion, they prefer to align their families with those of the other three ancient Houses. House Valaerys is the only House that has ever married into House Saerela in recorded history since the Cataclysm.
