"Wow! You found a four-leaf clover dear, such clovers bring good luck!" Felicity's grandmother told her on Wednesday, when she turned seven years old and found it in the garden. Perhaps that's why she got a black cat on her birthday the same day. The one thing she'd wished for since she was four. However, black cats are also said to bring miss fortune. Maybe that's why her father tripped over it and broke his leg on Thursday. Which is odd since he always says "break a leg!" before her mother goes to work on stage at the theater.

So the next day after school Felicity walked to the forest to find an acorn, since her old neighbor Havi had said it could protect one's health against illnesses, in hope of a quick recovery for her father. Oh, she was in luck because on her way she found a fly agaric mushroom, pointing the way to the tree which under its canopy the girl found the acorn she needed. Happily she ran home again only to trip over one of the flagstones in the garden. Oh dear, wasn't it Friday the 13th today?
Nevertheless, rising up Felicity found she had no bruise nor scratch to be seen on her body, and when she opened her hand to check the acorn, a ladybug landed on her wrist. Oh how lucky she must be!

On Saturday she nearly overslept, but still missed the bus to granny. Oh well, it wasn't raining outside so she could walk. She'd left her lucky four-leaf clover to dry at home. Perhaps that's why sadly some bird felt the need to relieve itself over her head, leaving a poopy mess on her shoulder. Darn it, but hey, what was that shiny thing in front of her on the road? A penny? Maybe this wasn't such a bad day after all, she thought while taking a short cut over the plow land, past the barn and under a ladder. Her foot hit a rusty bucket which startled a flock of magpies who croaking flew first to the left only to turn to the right over her head. She almost tripped over grandma's fence but luckily caught herself before she fell head over heels in the mud. Maybe the penny had been faced down when Felicity had found it, she could not remember. Before she entered her grandmother's house, she jumped in hope of touching the horseshoe hanging over the door above her head. Still no luck, because she was too short. Maybe the next day would be a better day, perhaps she would be a little longer then.

"It's bad luck to open an umbrella inside the house!" Felicity's grandmother told her on Sunday when Felicity played inside by the door. Perhaps that's why the girl nearly choked on a fishbone an hour later by the dinner table.
"Oh it's a wishbone, make a wish dear!" her grandma told her when she coughed it up, and Felicity did so. Wishing her grandmother wouldn't find the broken hand-mirror she'd accidentally dropped while playing with it, and hidden under the shoe rack by the umbrella...

Monday morning came, and like every other child on the school bus, Felicity was careful not to step down on the manhole cover where the bus stopped every morning, nor on the cracks on the sidewalk leading to the schools. Sadly she was pushed by Lurz when he ran by so she accidentally stepped on a dung beetle. Maybe that's why the rest of the day felt like an eternity, before she could take the bus home again.
"Fingers crossed we'll see a shooting star tonight!" Felicity's best friend called after her when she got off the bus. Maybe she would have, if Felicity hadn't fallen asleep while doing her homework.

On Tuesday afternoon Felicity's mother came bursting through the front door shouting that she had given the best performance of her life that day, and therefore bought them three lottery tickets. Sadly nor Felicity's father or her mother had any luck with their lottery tickets, so guess her parents surprise when their daughter on the other hand won big.

"How unbelievably lucky you are, dear! Must be that four-leaf clover you found a week ago!" Her father said from the armchair where he sat with his broken leg, petting the cat they'd named Fortuna.
"Yes, and it must be dry now? It's been seven days tomorrow. I want to show my friend Octavia!" the seven year old girl answered, whose name means 'good luck'.
