Hair
Long and hangs down over his shoulder blades and mid-chest. Is a strange sort of gunmetal gray color, which often confuses those if he's young or old. It naturally falls into large curls and is quite luxurious when he actually takes care of it, but is often too absorbed in his own world and survival so it can get quite messy.
Eyes
A bright, almost peridot-shade of green. Paired with his hair, it almost makes him look cat-like.
Skintone
Quite pale, as he spends most of his time in a mostly-shaded forest. In some areas his veins can be seen.
Height
5'11"
Body Type
Long and lanky and can become almost alarmingly thin at times. However, it's just because he sometimes either forgets to eat or has more important things to do. When he does take care of himself though, he fills out rather well and is fit with long sinewed muscle. Just as a whole though, is rather small framed.
Notable Features
From a distance, Rain can be seen as rather androgynous based on his small frame and long hair, even sometimes mistaken as a woman but he has no real cares about these sorts of things. His expression is also almost always serious, sometimes to the point of a scowl, but if something or someone actually manages to get him to smile he holds much youth in his facial features.
He is covered in both scars from injuries as well as purposeful scarification and tattoos of witch runes over his body. They mostly spread over his chest, shoulders, shoulderblades and back, but some are also down his spine. There are also hidden runes down both sides of his arms and legs that can only be visible in the light of the full moon.
Style
Like his personality, part of his style reflects his eccentricities, while the other half is more of a reflection of a state of survival. A lot of his clothing is strange, both in style and color/design. It's often handmade, and made with scraps of things, leather from animals he hunted himself or dyed with things he found in the forest. He doesn't care much for style, and just happens to make whatever he feels like.

Personality
'World weary' is an understatement for the witch. He's lived a long time and gone through hell and back, almost literally, and has experienced significant trauma and death in his life. He often seems tired but it's more of that same weariness he has. He's a battered-down sort of man, but one that just wants to live in peace. As much as he also doesn't want to admit it, he is quite lonely.
Beneath this all though, he is a man who is curious, constantly in the search of knowledge, and endlessly in love with nature and all its intricacies and wonder. It takes significant work, but when getting him to talk about a topic he is passionate about, he could ramble on for a long time, but never leaving it boring for those who are willing to listen.
Despite that he often neglects himself, he is never neglectful of those who are dependent or leaning on him. Part of what has gotten him in trouble over the years is putting some others before himself. He also has a lot of strange quirks and eccentricities when it comes to being around him for a long time... due to not having much interaction with others most of his life.
Abilities:
He has studied and can control/use many kinds of magics, but he was born what would be considered a 'green' witch. He has the ability to borrow power from plants and even minor communication with them, and this also extends to some animals. His first familiar long ago passed on and gave them their powers, so he also can shapeshift into a cat - which also explains why some of his normal expressions can look so catlike. The kind of cat as well as size can change depending on the need. He has found however, that more often than not, dark magics have to be used to protect himself, which is also why he's riddled in scars both defensive as well as self-created, because dark magic often requires sacrifice of some kind. He can use magic by word and motion when it is more nature-based, but other types of magic he often has to use a staff of some sort - ultimately just depending on what he is trying to do. He is also significantly talented at making magical concoctions, potions, and medicines. He also can work with a raven he lives with [more on her in the history] including borrowing her form.
Likes:
Nature, flora/fauna, exploring, being able to focus on his work and studies, the pursuit of knowledge, the very few loved ones he's ever had
Dislikes:
Being in small places/enclosed especially in anything cage-like but in general is claustrophobic, being touched without permission, crowds of people that are more likely to be ignorant, anything to do with the church [including heavenly beings], the current king ruling the lands, fighting/conflict.
Humor Style
Has a rather sarcastic and almost dark sense of humor, often rather dry.

Witches run in Rain's lineage, but it doesn't make them any less despised. As soon as his eyes opened and revealed the bright, almost inhuman shade of green, his family knew that he was 'cursed' with powers of some sort. Because so many children in their family through the generations were born this way however, they did not merely damn their child to death. Instead he was immediately abandoned at the doorstep of another exiled family member - someone else that had been abandoned long before due to their magic.
Rain was named and raised by his 'Aunt' Summer, though he isn't sure if she was ever truly his aunt. She very well could have been an ancestor by many generations, but it didn't matter. She took him into her care and raised him as her own and gave him a life full of love, to help him attune to his powers. Unfortunately, Rain was a young teenager when his Aunt Summer was violently kidnapped, sacrificing herself by going with them without a true fight so that they would not find him stowed away. But he followed behind, desperate to find a way to save her, only to have to watch her be burned at the stake.
Because of this, Rain knew that he could never truly associate with regular people. His Aunt went out of her way to help them, make them medicines, heal their wounds, healed their animals and even helped use her powers to help their crops grow and save them from natural disasters. But in the end, when their lands were invaded by a new church of holy men, as soon as they heard of the woman they knew she was a witch. So it was then that the young man lived alone for some time all by himself. But eventually his loneliness became too great and he started to leave his aunt's forest cottage to mingle with others. He carefully followed in her footsteps, but not so blatant to show what he was capable of, and helped others. He decided however, that because he could not risk staying there to have the church find out about himself either, he needed to remain mobile.
For many years of his youth and well into his adulthood for decades, Rain became a sort of traveling witch to offer his services where needed. He would never stay in one place for very long, and so it was easy to escape and make a run for it if needed - but more often than not was run out of town after his services were used and then no one wanted to work with a witch any longer. Until one day, he was personally summoned by a prince, having heard of his potential. This prince was unlike his many royal fathers before him, and wanted to have witches at his side to help his rule. Thinking this was a way to make the prince a fair king one day, he agreed to help him. This, unfortunately, would be his ultimate downfall. Things did start out well, the prince and witch working with each other to make the lands wonderful. At some point, the pair even became lovers. It was true love from Rain's side, at least. He had not yet learned the manipulative true nature of the man who one day would be king. When that day arrived, everything became clear.
In fact, the prince had used Rain to kill the current king, even if he hadn't meant to - and this horrified the witch. The prince didn't want to wait any longer to become a king himself. So as soon as the prince became said king, his true colors came out. Everything that Rain did for him was used against others in cruel ways, in manners that Rain had never agreed to nor would ever assist with. Rain started to deny his king who had become a tyrant, and that is when the king decided to take the witch's fate into his own hands to force him to directly do evil against others. Because the witch refused, he was imprisoned and tortured in ways that are nearly unfathomable to the human mind. His body was broken first, in many different ways, and his mind was also shattered from many years of constant torture. It was here that his once flowing hair the color of a deep oak brown was drained of its color and left gray. But, thankfully green magic is a healing one, and helped keep even just a fragment of his true self alive.
At one point, Rain was able to escape. He was hunted for a very long time, but sought refuge in a forest beyond the outskirts of the king's control that was well known for its dark magics, monsters, and rumors that any who entered never came back out alive. While the king could have kept hunting him down, he also knew that it was only Rain that knew the secret to his father's death, and decided to leave him there so long as he didn't ever see his face or name again. The king found also that there were far easier witches to work with, those who embodied dark magic, and who never fought against his evil ways and thrived in it.
There was a time however, that the witch reached the end of how his own magics could heal himself after trying for many more years, and yet that still wasn't enough to ever fully heal what he had endured. He considered leaving this world to end his own pain and suffering, but one day a strange green-eyed raven found him carrying a message that someone in his family was looking for him. While he never fully left the forest to find out if it was true or not, instead at the very edge a baby girl was shoved in his arms. When she opened her eyes at him, he realized that their eye color was the same. She was his family, and he would put his all into her care, to try and care for her as his Aunt had for him.
So then it was just he and his 'niece,' Gale. As he raised his niece, the raven also stayed around and he discovered that she was a great ancestor of theirs, but cursed to the form of a [questionable] raven for all eternity. For the first time since he was a teenager which at that point many, many years had passed, Rain was happy. Gale became his everything, his reason for living and raising/teaching the young girl everything he could teach her about learning about her own powers. But one day as she was close to becoming a teenager herself, suddenly he got word that her parents wanted to make amends and meet their daughter. Rain had been open that he wasn't her father, and so swallowed his hesitations when the girl wanted to meet them as it wasn't his place to keep her from them.
To his dismay… she wanted to go with them to learn of the rest of her family and to live a life of that of a normal girl. He warned her of the dangers of people finding out about her, but she was young and stubborn. So he let her go. For some time, she did visit him but it became less and less. Then one day months after her parents took her back, he received the news that her parents had taken her to the church to be 'purged' of her powers and witchcraft. He did not know what horrors Gale must have gone through, but when he rushed out of his safehaven to meet her… her eyes had turned a normal shade of green and she seemed to have limited memory of him… and he could sense that her powers were ripped from her. Her parents immediately kept him away and convinced her daughter that he was evil, and she became afraid of him. Not being able to bear seeing her look at him in fear he watched her from afar, doing what he could to try and make her remember, to gain her powers back in subtle ways.
But unfortunately, losing Gale and then she forgetting him was not the last of his heartbreaks relating to her.
The raven, who he had named Autumn as an homage to his other family members, came with the gutting news that Gale had been murdered. Not just murdered, but slaughtered by a beast kept within the castle of none other than the king who had shattered his entire life. Her parents had sold her away as a servant there, and that was the last that had been her life.
It is here that the story begins.
