Lady Lucia Valenti, Adoptive Sister of Duke Valenti | Human
Archetype: Raven | 23 | Female
CHARACTER ARC LIE/TRUTH
The Thing the OC Wants: Peace
How does it connect to the external plot (heralding peace to Fell from the Empire): Fighting for common ground with Fell and the empire.
How does the desire manifest itself?: Attempting to fix problems herself by snipping at the leaves while willfully ignoring the root of evil.
How is it a selfish desire?: Refusing to validate the victims of evil.
What Lie is it based on?: Peace can be obtained without truth.
The Thing the OC Needs: Truth.
Which theme does it most closely relate to?: Perspective, Good vs. evil.
How is it a healthy/beneficial desire?: Knowing the truth will allow the root of evil to be cut out, even if it's the hardest thing to do.
What Truth is it based on?: The truth will set you free, and be a gateway to long-lasting peace.
Appearance: Standing at 5'3 and 55 kg, she's the type of lady that looks like she hasn't been eating enough. Her face is a bit thin, and just a little less curve to her body where the proper weight should be. Piano fingers and tiny feet. Ash brown hair with highlights of strawberry frames her face, ending at mid-waist. A strong jaw-line, symmetrical face, and round, amber eyes. She has crinkles at the edges of her eyes to show signs of laugher, and full lips well-acquainted to being lifted in a smile. Besides the sparse colour of freckles along her skin, she has a few scars and nicks along her arms and one scar in a perfect, straight line dashing across her cheek.
Her hair is a strange oddity in that, according to strong emotion, can either catch fire or bubble up with healing honey. Scarves tend to become burnt or squeaky clean on any given day.
Typical Attire: The most relaxing dress suit she can find, despite having puffy sleeves and heavily intricate embroidery, so she can worry less about wrinkling her dress or losing a pearl, and more on the social ongoings she's involved in. There is typically a bejewelled scarf that matches, but most days she hangs a black veil around her head, loosely draped around her shoulders.
Personality: Watchful, attentive and eager. Having spent time in the traditional courts of the city, she picked up good habits such as smiling, addressing people properly, and coming across as a well-mannered lady. Also aware that there's a motive behind people's speech, she's careful in remembering to read between the lines, though she admits her brother is better with discernment.
With an unenvious upbringing, she gives precedence to reading the mood before speaking. She also has a tendency to simply take matters into her own hands, figuring it's easier to ask for forgiveness than for permission.
She is unsure of how to express strong emotions, so she tries to suppress them. This can come out in sudden snaps of rage, happiness, or fear.
Skills: Along with the basics of any proper lady, like dancing, hosting, and etiquette, she has a hobby of implementing the business tactics her brother has taught her. This includes research, careful conversations, and intimidation. She also has the basics in combat training to defend from untrained thugs, but anyone with skill can easily overwhelm her. That is why her strength lies in her magic, which she has spent tireless hours to practice and perfect.
Family/close friends/pets: Vincent Valenti, her adoptive brother.
History: At a young age of adoption, Lucia was given the responsibility of helping her brother, Vincent, track down the ones related to her parents' murder. Vincent said someone had bribed them to go through with the unthinkable plan of murdering their only child. But when her parents didn't succumb to gold, that certain someone 'upped the ante' and directly threatened them with a painful death if they didn't go through with it.
It was a tireless struggle. Months flew by in following leads, coaxing or coercing secrets out of choice people, stealing documents until finally, the truth revealed itself. A hidden adventurers' council named the Gold Shadow, styled after Fell's city council, who ran a part of the adventurers' crime syndicate, the Golden Family.
After a few more months of careful planning, Lucia and Vincent ambushed the council on their way to a secret meeting. Vincent took out half the council while demanding Lucia to strike down the rest. She hesitated, seeing the fear in these people. Then, she remembered her parents and gave them a painless death by the sword. However, in her hesitation, one council member got away.
Months of hard work destroyed in an instant.
Vincent burst with rage when they arrived home, and to his surprise, she snapped back. She said how dare he demand she kill someone, even if they had coerced her parents. That was the tipping point for Vincent, and he struck out. He slammed her face against an ornate mirror, causing it to shatter and cut her cheek in a straight line.
The situation diffused immediately, and he tended to her cut. Both of them in silence. He could see tears beading in her eyes, and he asked if she was afraid of him.
She said no, he was right. She shouldn't have hesitated. Now her parents wouldn't be at peace. Not with the last perpetrator out there, hidden in a new hole.
He simply held her as she wept bitterly, grieving. He knew he didn't have to say anything more. Next time, his little doll would do as he said.
Years passed, and Lucia was given a break from the business to pursue other delights, such as immersing herself in court life. The city council had given Vincent the title of Duke as a gift, after all. It would be a shame if it went to waste. Not that he really used it, his line of work involved coercing the other nobles instead of doing business with them, after all. She spent her days studying in the library, learning from a mistress about etiquette, and was essentially free to pursue what she pleased.
Vincent only asked that she sit down with him every day to go over her magic, sparring, and studies.
More years passed, and Vincent slowly began giving Lucia, now a full-grown woman, tasks to do within the business, like intimidating a merchant to agree to a one-sided deal or eavesdrop on a passing caravan. A part of her enjoyed having control over people, but another part wanted to burn the entire city to the ground. She could remember being young and standing with Vincent at her parents' funeral, determined that she'd put an end to the business. But she had forgotten the feeling, the drive, or the reason, that her younger self had.
It was at this point that she was invited to a peace ball.
Power/ability/magic name: Phoenix Fire
Power/ability/magic description: This hybrid of fire has two forms: Honey, and Traditional. Honey Fire is a shimmering, water-like fire with a honey consistency, which has the ability to heal. Healing for a shallow cut takes five minutes, and a deep cut can take a half-hour. Life-threatening injuries take hours, though she has a high chance to save someone from dying if there is no doctor present. Spiritual energy is the fuel consumed.
While healing, the injury site becomes warm, tingly, and the sensation of being underwater. Although the process does leave scars, they tend to be overly faint.
Traditional Fire is the same fire found in a hearth, using oxygen and spiritual strength as fuels to burn. They also start from the origin source, Lucia, typically in her hands, and extend from there. They can be thrown in straight lines or made into walls that can curve.
Drawbacks: Any and all fire can become null and void by drenching her in water or immersing her in water or freezing temperatures. She cannot do anything when wet or chilled.
As both fires use spiritual energy, exhaustion becomes a factor she has to be mindful of. Like lifting a bag of bricks, manifesting fire can only be done so long before it is simply too heavy to pick up. Exhaustion also comes rapidly with bigger/longer casting.
Envisioned development: Nothing at the moment.
