The Writer
Greetings! I am Max, I'm in my early 30s, and I live in Ireland so my timezone is GMT. I'm trans (AFAB, he/him)--how could you have guessed?!--and generally just queer AF so needless to say, I am LGBTQIA+ friendly. You will probably find me in chat spouting whatever nonsense my autistic brain deems to be relevant and interesting, which could be anything from talking about Anglo-Saxon England before the Normans came to which Canadian actors have appeared in which sci-fi shows.
I started in RP more than 15 years ago at this point, in an on-again-off-again relationship with it as I've traipsed through various RP sites, email, Discord, an app called Band, and probably some other location that I'm forgetting. I've had some truly incredible writing partners over the years that have helped me grow in a number of areas, but I have no doubt that I still have plenty of rough edges; this is probably most apparent in my sometimes maddening abuse of punctuation and sentence structure. Additionally, despite spending all of my time writing with people without an Irish background and growing up on a steady diet of American media, I doubtless still have various Hiberno-English eccentricities knocking around in my vocabulary of which I am wholly unaware.
I work in IT in a support/coding/development/admin capacity because I need to wear all of the hats, and despite how exhausting and frustrating that can be, it seems that I've decided to go back to dabbling in BBCode in my spare time. The fact that I like to dabble with BBCode isn't entirely unrelated to how I ended up on my current career path despite coming from an English lit background. I don't intend to devote disproportionate amounts of time creating fancy posting templates, although this request thread may give that impression. I feel as if my desire to make a good impression and make things easy to navigate may have gotten away from me a bit.
Some days, I have no mental bandwidth at all, others I have a infinite bandwidth for very specific things, but I am basically always available for OOC chatter. I could be totally incapable of coherent thought, but be revived by an opportunity to talk about how education laws in England in the late Victorian period shaped publishing trends. I may just as readily become rabid at the chance to talk about horror films. Somehow these sorts of things co-exist comfortably in my brain, and perhaps might actually prove useful in an RP some day.
I don't know what else there is to say, especially as I've probably already said more than enough, but obviously if you have any questions/need any clarification about anything here then please hit me up!

Posting
What to Expect From Me
- Literate--although punctuation may get interesting and I use pesky extra letters like "u" in the word "colour" or "neighbour"
- Third person, past tense
- Reply at least once a week
- Reply length: 400-1000+
- Male/Female/NB characters
- OC or canon characters
- Doubling friendly
- OOC chatter about characters, plots and more--though I can be chill if you set some clear boundaries
What I Expect From My Partner
- Good communication: let me know about any issues, potential delays, needs for edits/clarification, etc.
- No ghosting! Similar to the point above except that sometimes, I think people can be communicative but unwilling to say if they want to drop an RP. Hate where things are going? Feel that we don't click? Please just tell me. I'd rather be told outright than quietly let go
- Literate: I can handle the odd typo and rogue bit of grammar, but there are certain things that will make my brain scream
- Decent post quality/length: if I write 1000 words, you don't have to match my post length, but understandably I won't be pleased with a paragraph in response
- Reply at least once a week--assuming no mitigating circumstances, though I am open to negotiating a longer interval if things really click between us
- No AI for writing: I want to experience your ideas and passions, not have a back and forth with an LLM--I can understand using gen AI for image generation

Most of my plot ideas are flavours/loose cravings at the moment so I will list them but I will include solid plot ideas here as and when I have them. Plots are not set in stone and definitely have plenty of wiggle room, especially when it comes to setting/world building and your character. If I wanted everything set in stone then I'd just write these things myself.

Divine Inspiration (sci-fi/fantasy, religious, romance potential): self-harm, corruption, persecution, post-collapse society, witch trial vibes
-
In the future, society as we know it has collapsed and humanity has been reduced to small communities governed by religion and superstition. The Ancestors are viewed as foolhardy “machine-whisperers” who allowed their love of technology to seduce them away from the simple, humble life that God intended.
MC (gender TBD) has been raised to devoutly follow the pure path that God intends for everyone, but their teen years have been plagued by doubt and fear. While they were taught to expect many changes on their path to adulthood, there was nothing to prepare them for the whispers that trickled into their mind. Not messages from God, but the sins of their neighbours. Fearing the work of malevolent entities, they confessed their secret to their mother who warned of a curse that plagued their line that could lead to madness or even death—if the wrong people learned of it.
Charged to never speak of it to anyone, MC has suffered from bouts of "illness" since the onset of the voices, sometimes purely as an excuse to avoid people and the murmurs of their sins, and other times as a result of mortifying their own flesh as penance, purification, and an attempt to prevent the intrusion of noise. Avoiding people in a small village is never truly possible and thus, it was probably inevitable that they would demonstrate their ability in too public a way, earning the scrutiny of the local Shepherd and prompting the summoning of the Truthsayer.
The Truthsayer declared that they have a gift: the ability to discern truth, and separate the righteous from the unworthy. Except that the Truthsayer is harbouring dark secrets and failing to reveal them is unconscionable, while speaking against them would have dire consequences. After all, the Truthsayer has the potential to make or break MC, as their gift could just as easily be deemed the result of heresy rather than divine inspiration.
(There's a lot of wiggle room in this one as I wanted to leave it sufficiently open to allow input from a partner. The basic idea is that MC is telepathic (the result of natural evolution or genetic engineering--or maybe it has something to do with aliens, why not?) in a future that is not exactly hospitable to that fact, though it's possible that there are people who are aware that such things are possible. YC could be someone from the village who they grew up with, a visiting Shepherd (priest, basically) or even the Truthsayer (a bishop or higher, I think) themselves. I have a lot of thoughts here, including how YC is protected from having their thoughts read) -
Out of This World (fantasy/magic, romance--FxA): Gothic/dark vibes, fate, fae, pre-Industrial
-
MC has been raised to be a hard-working girl, helping her father tend to their small homestead, especially now that he's ailing. She tends to the animals--the chickens, the sheep, the dog--and ensures that their garden produces the food that they need. While quite beautiful, she has been warned against vanity and the wandering eyes of the boys in the local village.
It's a simple life.
Of course, her father isn't technically her father, she has an uncanny ability to get animals to do what she wants, and sometimes the ewes' milk curdles instantly when she's in ill-humour, but everyone has their quirks, right? While village gossip about her might have put off most suitors, the bailiff has taken an interest in her. He doesn't seem to care that she's almost young enough to be his granddaughter or that she was found running wild in the forest, it's her beauty that captivates him and he seems determined to possess her--one way or another.
For a girl with no prospects and nobody whom she can turn to for aid, a marriage to the bailiff seems like the best option for her future, unpalatable though it might be, but running away doesn't seem like a possible option.
Even if the forest that she's been taught to avoid seems to be calling to her, perhaps offering a different choice if she learns who and what she really is.
(Offering a general vibe here, but I have no definite thoughts on who YC could be--a child of the bailiff, fae, someone else--so there is lots of room for plotting. And this could potentially end up dark--the murderous type of dark.
- Something involving OG-type zombies--the kind that had to be raised and led
- Vampires/dampires
- Something based on mythological creatures/beings--particularly taken with things to do with Celtic fae
- And more to come... when I have brain cells
