NAME - What is this universe's name?
The Upsidedown
DESCRIPTION - How would you describe The Upsidedown?
Created by the need for an escape, the upsidedown is a safe space for all the dreams and hopes that don't belong in the real world.
GENRE - What genre best describes The Upsidedown?
Fantasy
ORIGIN - How did The Upsidedown originate?
Created on half hopes and dreams, the upside down is a living, breathing thing. Rather than remaining fixed in one place, the universe evolves along with the stories that come within it. It was created on dreams and will continue to thrive off of them. The gods of this universe operate using the absurd and get their power from wishes and desires.
LAWS OF PHYSICS - What are the laws of physics like in The Upsidedown?
The laws of physics in The Upside down typically work like those in the Right Side Up universe. The only difference being, they can be bent at will by those with magical heritage.
MAGIC SYSTEM - What is the magic system like in The Upsidedown?
All the magic within the Upsidedown is, at its base, fueled by dreams. There are three main paths of magic, each leading to a different relationship with the energy in the world.
ɪɴᴛᴇʀɴᴀʟ ᴍᴀɢɪᴄ | coming from the being itself, this magic takes a toll on the user but is active anywhere and at any time. Because the user is drawing from within themselves, they can only exert themselves to a certain extent. The magical energy someone is born with depends on their bloodline. This magical energy can be amplified through practice and study, as more of the stored magical energy can be unlocked by the user. Because these beings naturally generate magical energy, they are very sought out in the rougher districts, being used as power sources.
ᴠᴏɪᴅꜰᴀᴇ ᴍᴀɢɪᴄ | this magic draws from the environment. Because the Upsidedown is a world built on magical energy, said magical energy can constantly be found in every single district. Those from the faewild can access this magic. When beings from the faewild die, the magical energy they've accumulated over the years gets released back into the environment, strengthening and replenishing it. Death in the faewild is a celebration rather than mourning, for every death brings a new form of life. Because voidfae creatures depend on the Upsidedown for their power, they tend to take very good care of it, and their districts are incredibly healthy and at peace.
ᴠᴏɪᴅʟɪɴᴋ | voidlings are beings that, like the gods of the world, can access magic based on dreams - their own dreams. These dreams are how they heal and thrive, but their powers come directly from their pantheon parent. Voidlings are rare. They were created by the storm pantheon, and draw on their bloodline's power directly. The stronger their pantheon parent is, the more power they have.
TECHNOLOGY - What is the level of technology like in The Upsidedown?
Each district has its own specific technology.
NOTES
ᴠᴏɪᴅʟɪɴᴋ | These are entities tied directly to dreams. They are the gods of this world and live in the space between dimensions, powered by the hopes, dreams, and imagination of mortals. They are less sentient and more tied to the world itself. If things harm them, things in the world begin to crumble.
When an administrator gets created, they get a minuscule amount of power from voidlinks, which allows them to know and use all the gateways in the Upsidedown and control their specific district. Aside from helping maintain the gateways and keeping things orderly within their specific district, they are not to interfere. Like the voidlinks, they are there only to maintain order. If an administrator gets sick, the district that is tied to them begins to crumble. Things begin to glitch out, and reality and dream start to mix until the administrator is relieved of their duties by someone else. A single administrator cannot be in charge of more than one district.
ꜱᴛᴏʀᴍ ᴘᴀɴᴛʜᴇᴏɴ | Voidlinks live in the space between dimensions. The world is based on dreams, which also means nightmares exist. Nightmares and despair gather into electric storms within the space the voidlinks live in. With those electric storms came the storm pantheon. The storm pantheon is basically voidlinks with minor power. They can't shape the world the way major voidlinks can but they can access all the gateways and travel between them freely, getting with mortals if they so desire, and creating voidlings - beings that can draw on both the power of their storm pantheon parent, and get strengthened by dreams.
