PersonalityDespite being born in an aristocracy, he is very benevolent towards those below him, even sparing pickpocketers who steal from him. He has gotten in trouble with authorities and his family for attacking guards who were abusing their power on peasants. He has no intention to harm innocents or to unwillingly extract blood from them.
His personality tends to switch when he consumes blood from another being. He becomes egocentric and vain, dismissing the needs of anyone else to please his primal vampiric needs. His lust for blood becomes uncontrollable once he consumes above a quantity, and he needs to be restrained for the effects to wean and return to normal.
Skills
Swordmanship/Fencing
- La Rapière des Romanet - A flamboyant and dancer-like swordfighting style passed down the House of Romanet from generations. While other houses have their own styles, this style in particular focuses on distraction and deception using the lightness of the rapier to rapidly stab and slash, and an impeccable physicality to deal mid-ranged physical blows. It's a moveset that uses flamboyant physical attacks and evasion to compliment the lack of protection from only using a rapier.
Vampiric abilities
- Mesmerize - Hypnotizing people for him to control their actions, behavior and thoughts. It will only work for a very short amount of time. Discovered using Mesmerize by the victim or a bystander will provoke hostilities.
- Bloodlust - Consuming blood off a creature will provide a temporary buff on Strength and Agility to Gryffin. The duration and increment for the attributes will depend on how much blood was consumed. If too much blood is consumed, it can lead to a withdrawal that will debuff Strength, Vitality and Agility significantly. It will also render Gryffin unable to control himself or his primal impulses. Prudence should be exercised.
- Eternally Young (Passive) - His scars and wounds will heal at an accelerated rate during nighttime. He will also never age physically.
Rapiers
On his eighteenth birthday, Gryffin's father got him a beautiful rapier as a gift.
Likes: horses, sparring with those providing a challenge, attention, flamboyant clothing, garlic chickenDislikes: oppression, waiting, authority, sunlight, excessive wealth
Strengths: discipline, natural charisma
Weaknesses: blood withdrawal, fighting style with poor defense, lack of willpower
Background
Born in the Romanet family, an aristocratic clan being the driving force of the happenings on the French Empire, Gryffin was taught and raised from a very young age about the ways of life of the noble family: not to get involved with the poor and show disdain on them. Growing disgusted by the acts of discrimination and abuse of power from the family he served for 60 years, the head butler did his best to correct and re-educate young Gryffin on treating everyone as equals, even the peasants and beggars who were only victims of the system in place. In secret, the head butler took Young Gryff to the streets just so he could play with kids his age and make friends, while keeping an eagle eye over him.
It was a different matter when it was about La Rapière des Romanet, one of the most influential fencing styles in all of Europe at the time. Harsh didn't come close to describe the training and respect Young Gryffin was instilled on this fine art, with austere home schooling from the best instructors from a young age, to relentless advanced training by age 13. "Never give your foe the opportunity to breathe", said his father every single day ad nauseum, a driving factor to his flawless discipline and numerous victories. Losses were bitter, but he vowed his rival that he'd become better and beat him at a later bout, after gracefully accepting defeat. He became the best fencing combatant in all of the French Empire by the age of 15, gaining him respect from his peers and rivals alike.
At the age of 22, Gryffin accompanied the head butler into town one night, as he was unable to go out alone. Both were ambushed by a horrendous looking creature in an alleyway. After pushing Gryffin out of harms way, the frail butler was veraciously gnawed on the neck, dying instantly. Gryffin slashed its face with the rapier, but the monster bashed him to the ground, losing consciousness. He woke up bandaged from head to toe trying to remember what happened. Everything dripped into memory ever so slowly; he couldn't stop blaming himself for not being able to protect his best friend. But there was still something that kept banging his head: how did the creature not kill him there? It was large enough to rip him apart in seconds. After peeling off the bandages, he felt and saw a wound that hasn't healed yet. Two holes, dug on the base of his neck. "A vampire bite? Why? How? When?". Many thoughts raced around his head, but the only coherent idea was to cover the bite however he could.
Unusual traits began to manifest as months passed. Deep cuts he suffered during fencing and sparring scarred and healed overnight, leaving barely any trace by the next morning. But nothing as apparent as sharp canine teeth and a growing appetite for blood. While vampires in France were mostly associated with the higher class and the nobility, they were still a taboo among the people in power. Gryffin knew that if the kingdom found out about his mutation, disgrace would befall on his family, and his head would be on a stake by his family's hand in order to protect their honor and prestige. His forbidden hunger was only getting harder to control, even considering feeding from his own butlers to end the hunger. With no one to confide his secret to, he resorted to look around the devious and seedy underworld of the Empire finally discovering a solution. Masquerades: occult and outlawed dens of hedonism graced by pure anonymity. Finding them was only a task fit for the brilliant mind, as cryptic, well-ciphered clues were hidden in plain sight and the location and time always changed. Mostly hosted in catacombs, such events were always painstakingly decorated, abounding with nothing but the best food, reflecting the status of the guests attending. Without exception, he'd always look for willing subjects who would satisfy his primal desires, as well as experiment with new things. "Never harming nor killing innocents", while a creed he always held his standards on, it wasn't enough to justify his excesses.
