EARTH DATABASE
A modern, realistic version of our own beloved planet Earth with elements of science fiction, modern fantasy, and the notable exceptions that there are fictional cities added to different countries, and regions within them, and super powered metahumans exist among the mortal population. No cities or towns will be replaced outright, but new cities and towns will be added from time to time. Until now I've chosen to keep geography vague so as not to have to virtually overwrite any given location no matter how big or small.
Metahumans are born with genetic anomalies and perks that give them super powers. And powers running in families and genetics is a very common thing.
The Gods
Two Lesser Gods have been present throughout the development of humanity, and recorded history, although their contact with the human race has been limited since the renaissance era. They have been worshipped as gods, forming the basis behind many of the pantheons mortals have created over the years. They have had wars waged in their name, and they have led armies of mortals into battle. The brothers have watched over, toyed with, and manipulated humanity for untold eons.
Created for reasons as entrenched in shadow as the god Kronos himself, the twins Zeus and Hades were placed on Earth, and left here together with no instructions or guidance. They were only given one rule. One purpose. They could not leave Earth. It was the job of the other to ensure that his brother maintain his post.
For thousands of years they have waited, played, fought, parted ways, held silences. Waiting. Wondering. Growing.
Temples of Shadow and Light
There are two ancient, diametrically opposed orders which have also been present throughout most of Earth's recorded history. Although they echo the eternal struggle between light and dark, creation and destruction, they were both founded by mortals. One group desiring to control mankind from the shadows, the other seeking to protect mankind and spread virtue.
The Light Temple
Location: Somewhere in China.
Purpose: Protect innocents from harm, spread virtue through act and example, prepare mind, body and spirit to confront darkness in all forms.
Disciplines: Generalized wushu with a focus on staff weapons.
Warriors: Known as monks, they lead humble lives, never carrying positions of too much direct power or influence.
Influence: Limited and fading as of the turn of the century.
Notable Locations: Shengli Combat Arts, Zhang Min's House of Wushu, TBA
The Shadow Temple
Location: Somewhere in Japan.
Purpose: Wield direct and absolute, unseen and undetected power over the masses, cultivate the matahuman population into their service and control, exert power and dominance over others to achieve desired goals.
Disciplines: Shinobi, Ninjutsu, bushido, karate, judo, aikido, misc. Japanese martial arts.
Warriors: Known as ninjas, they range in age, gender, class, and nature of occupation. They value and depend on having eyes and ears at every level of social, political, and economic power, all over the globe. Their agents hold positions of prominent influence and power in every major country and organization in the world, because as far as the world is aware, the Shadow Temple does not exist.
