Name: Lyric Bennett
Nickname: Lye
Title: EMT/Search and Rescue volunteer
Age: 26
Species: Human
Appearance:
Lye has always been a bit on the short side, reaching their full adult height of 5'4". They have a lean build, and though they live an active life their muscle grows dense and close to the bone giving a toned rather than muscular look. Lye has slender hips and wide shoulders above a smooth chest, complimented by a square jaw. Their deepset eyes are dark brown, and seem to be in a perpetual glower.
If it were not for their relatively small size and extremely frizzy hair, bleached blonde by the sun, they might be called rugged. However, the actual effect is closer to "short, unfriendly surfer dude." They highly resent being associated with a free-wheeling, beach-combing lifestyle and attempts to force others to see them as serious and industrious only further cement their unfortunate resting bitch face.
Personality:
Despite their unfortunate appearance, Lye doesn't particularly distrust others and has a strong drive for altruism. Behind a very serious looking face are often elaborate daydreams, remembering past adventures and planning their next. In structured environments, they perform their duties industriously with little fanfare-- however, their strong sense of justice causes problems when they perceive an abuse of authority.
Bio:
Lye was not naturally gifted in the realm of communication, and severe bullying throughout their youth left them without an opportunity to develop these skills artificially. Due to this, they spent much of their time alone, and especially treasured being out in the wilderness.
Because of their lack of "respect" for authority, they have had a difficult time fitting into traditional workforces where socializing with one's coworkers is compulsory and overlooking transgresses by ones employers a daily staple. As long as everyone is doing their job acceptably, Lye doesn't cause problems, but when a manager or similar interferes with work by being petty... They make a scene which usually ends in being fired.
Their career search thus far has ended with EMT training, where their ability to stay calm under pressure is an asset and frivolities are less integral to the job. They volunteer with several Search and Rescue teams throughout the year, allowing them to fulfill the need to help others as well as enjoy discounts on various nature-related season passes.
Given Name: Amadine Sandrine von Dampierre
(Ah-mah-die-n San-dreen von Damn-pee-ere)
Alias/True Name: Sade (rhymes with Jade)
Title: Lady Dampierre
Bloodtraits: Dominate, Obfuscate, Mentalism
Age: 24
Species: Vampire
Appearance: Although black hair is the norm among Dampierre vampires, they were born with a common brown shade found everywhere, and matching eyes. Sade is slender, with a flat chest and hips that are slightly too wide for a typical man. They measure at an androgynous 5'8" and have delicate brows on a heart-shaped face, accented with a strong jawline and prominent angular nose.
Their hair is kept cropped short in the back, with slightly longer bangs parted in the middle of their hairline. Their clothes imitate that of a mid-range merchant but are perhaps a tad too high quality if one were to look closely. They have small hands and feet, even among women, which they usually disguise with their bloodtrait and stuffed shoes.
Personality: By nature, Sade is a curious and adventurous individual who approaches others with goodwill. However, a lifetime of suspicion and betrayal has led them to become more cloistered, refined, and imitating graceful deference. They have a few private passions, and when one is brought up a certain spark lights in their eyes which they have never learned to disguise.
After leaving their noble house, Sade has started to become lax in their facade. Since they are far from home, and have not been discovered in many months, a collection of friends have gathered around them. They are reserved with their money, as they currently do not have the means to replace it, but has been weaker towards helping friends in need.
Bio: Sade was born and raised one of the many daughters of the Dampierre clan, whose patriarch carries the title of Marquis. Their family's primary bloodtrait set them apart from other mid-tier nobility, as Dominate is a mind-control ability second only to the royal family's Dementation. This is evidenced in their rather prestigious family name.
Their mother, Eulalie Marthe, was bred to a less favored son of Count Speyer, whose family is known for Obfuscate. This son was not known to have the ability, but passed it on to Sade, though whether this was through duplicity or fortune is unknown. It is common for those with that particular bloodtrait to be hidden so as to make best use of their abilities.
Sade had a close relationship with their mother but did not garner favor with Marquis Dampierre. In their youth, they were unruly and tomboyish, completely out of line for the behavior expected of their station. They would often steal servants clothes and sneak out into town, cavorting with lower-class vampires or worse-- human servants.
Due to the advocation of their dear mother, who was of strong will and played the political game well, Sade was often punished more lightly than they otherwise would have been. This allowed them to foster independent thinking unlike most other children in their situation, and as they developed their paternal bloodline trait they were caught less and less frequently.
Unfortunately, their estrus developed rather early. One of their cousins, Heraut, began taking notice of them during this time and encountered them during a clandestine adventure outside the manor. A vampire's estrus has an effect on other vampires and humans, in addition, Sade neglected to develop their maternal bloodtrait and lower level fascination would sometimes leak out unbeknownst to them. It was thus that Heraut caught them in a... compromising position with a human boy around their age.
Furious, he dragged Sade out and brought them straight to Marquis Dampierre. He had constantly advised their mother, Eulalie, to use a firm hand in their upbringing. As the child had gotten better at hiding, he assumed they had grown out of their rebellious stage, and the realization that misbehavior had festered under the surface was a blow to his pride and a great risk for their family. Especially with a human, this was unacceptable.
Sade was stripped from their mother, disallowed from any type of contact and confined. Originally they attempted to break out, but the patriarch had hired individuals from House Speyer to guard their room, ensuring any use of their paternal bloodline trait would be recognized and negated. Eventually, they realized that there was no way to escape on their own, and taking advice their wise mother had imparted on them in the past, Sade began to act as the perfect Lady.
Very slowly, they managed to work themselves out of the dog house, but they were still disallowed from visiting their mother. For years, they gained social achievements in the hope of earning back the right to see her. As it turns out, they inherited their mother's keen mind, and when they applied themselves excelled in academics and adapted to etiquette. The end result was that they became well known outside of the family, and seen as one of the most desirable mates for noble sires.
Sade, however, was extremely reluctant with regards to the most important duty of noble houses. The idea of birth made them extremly sick just to think about. Although vampire reproduction was not as brutal an experience as humans, they felt a strange sense of revile. It was not sex-- though they concealed it especailly well after the "incident", they were cursed with perversion. Their cycles were more common, and their drive did not disappear as it should between them. Traumatized by their first sexual experience, they made no attempt to find physical solace, and were too afraid of the patriarch finding out about their condition to seek medical intervention. Medical records were never a secret in a noble house.
As such, though they were approaching the age where they would be expected to accept whichever sires Marquis Dampierre selected for them, they used the knowledge they gained to avoid discussions as much as possible. Sade also had finally won the right to exchange letters with their mother in recent years, and she helped as much as she was able.
Upon reaching their 24th birthday, the patriarch summoned Sade to a private meeting. He had selected a sire in secret, separate from the usual elaborate discussions-- the son of Duke Urach who carried the Protean bloodline trait. The match was... unusually good for them. Duke families would normally breed with ArchDukes, and in rare circumstances could even sire to the royal line. Although Sade's accomplishments were above other Ladies in their family, and the Dampierre house surely stood out among Marquis, it was unusual. The Dampierre bloodline trait was not particularly developed in them, and additionally, they had never heard of a man named Kaspar among the Urach household.
Having been free of the Speyer guards for a long time, Sade decided to use their ability to investigate. What they found was beyond anything they could have imagined. The Duke's son was actually an illegitimate child of the King himself and had inherited Dementation-- a trait that absolutely would never be allowed outside of King's own children. Duke Urach had committed treason, and the Dampierre patriarch, ambitious beyond his means, made a deal with him not only for their breeding but absorption into the Urach House. Sade would be exclusive to the Duke's son, providing offspring until a male with Dementation and Obfuscate was produced.
Kaspar was raised in seclusion because the risk of exposing his paternal bloodtrait was too high. Just his existence could get their entire family executed. A child with Obfuscate, however, would be able to be raised normally, held as an official heir, and eventually... They planned to overtake the throne. There was no record of Sade's paternal bloodline trait, so they were the perfect candidate for such a role. Additionally, Dominate being the Dampierre trait meant Dementation was almost guaranteed among their offspring, and even if it ended in merely a strong presentation of Dominate that was a huge boon to a plot such as this.
Sade had heard many unsavory rumors about the Urach family, and a life hidden away in their depths, producing children with a Protean sire without limit, even after their duty was filled... a fate worse than death. Not to mention, should anything go wrong, they would be executed along with the entire Dampierre family for treason against the crown. They held no love for the patriarch, but their mother and cousins... they had many loved ones among the clan, and could not allow them to be put in danger. The Urach House would not make good rulers, they were ruthless and cruel beyond measure, using their positions of authority to cover up heinous acts of violence.
Thus, Sade decided to escape. They had no time to make elaborate plans but used their common sense to leave as little trail as possible. Using their ability, they created a new identity for themselves, cutting off the long hair that their dear mother had treasured for so long and assuming the role of a human man. Donning another gender went beyond scandalous, but they were introduced to the idea during their time with engaging with humans as a child. They had always been... fascinated, and as it turns out the new appearance made them feel alive. Vibrant. Never had they been so comfortable in their skin as when they shed their family name, and most especially the title of "Lady".
They traveled to a large city far from their family's territory. The capital city was a double-edged sword-- close to the royal family where treasonous activities would be more difficult, but also home to Duke Urach. Instead, they opted for a large trading hub closer to the border whose large entertainment industry attracted many new faces from different walks of life. Any unusual behavior would be easier to disguise in an area with such cultural diversity, and a much higher population of free humans due to its proximity to a neighboring country without slavery.
However, Marquis Dampierre, driven by greed and perhaps something more, began searching for Sade with fervor when they did not show up for the next meeting with Duke Urach. When plots are this dangerous, you succeed or you die. Using Sade's many accomplishments, the patriarch has used every bit of his reach, enhanced by a Ducal family's resources, to spread word far and wide about the missing Lady, under the excuse that "she" was his most beloved grand-niece. Portraits of their face have been published in papers across the country, and some even in the neighboring countries. It has become a romantic and tragic tale of a beloved Lady's disappearance.
Months have passed without any incident, and Sade has begun to feel settled in their new location, comfortable with the fact that no vampire would ever imagine a Lady abandoning their femininity to live as a man-- much less a human man. The longer they live outside of the cage of their birth, the more adventurous they become, collecting friends and living the life they had always only imagined. Drunk on freedom, and ale, mistakes are made...
Important NPCS:
Marquis Dampierre, patriarch of their family. Currently searching for Sade to ensure his very lucrative deal with the Urach House does not fall through, and to avoid the violent punishment that would surely await failure.
Eulalie Marthe von Dampierre, Sade's beloved mother, who they would do anything to protect.
Duke Urach, patriarch of an extremely powerful family containing the Protean bloodtrait, their house has served as military leaders for generations. He is engaged in a treasonous plot to seize the throne for his family, due to a belief that the current King, who only possesses Dementation, is a weak man whose lax upbringing has produced an heir much more progressive than most nobles desire.
Kaspar von Urach, the illegitimate son of the current King, raised in seclusion in order to hide his adopted father's treason.
