| ❖ character
the unofficial therapist of his pack, at least to those with enough wisdom to reach out for help. those who aren't quite so self-aware, whether due to age or general nature, tend to gravitate to his twin, leading to the two of them knowing practically everything that goes on within the pack. were they worse people, this kind of power could be dangerous, but as it stands, the two are thankfully mostly good. they gossip amongst themselves, of course, who wouldn't? there is no such thing as patient doctor confidentiality in these circumstances, and even if there were, it likely wouldn't stop them. they pool their knowledge in part to share the burdens that have been placed on them, but also to do what they can to repair other relationships in the pack.
❖ childhood
born a mere two minutes after his twin, Orpheus was favored by their parents from the very beginning. they had chosen not to find out the gender of the twins, and when Ophelia had been born first, their disappointment at the prospect of two girls was palpable. so when he made his grand entrance, they were overjoyed. of course, this blatant favoritism was noticed by the twins as they grew older, but if anything it drew them closer. attached at the hip, fiercely protective of each other, and far too clever for their own good, they learned to use it to their advantage from an early age. though he was clearly the calmer of the two, both seemed to live and breathe chaos from the time they could crawl. running wild, always coming home with scrapes and bruises, and ever too often, dragged home by another set of angry parents. the twins were fond of each other, not so much other children. others found them strange, how they were never more than a few feet apart, how when one spoke to either two sets of wide eyes watched, two voices answered, either in tandem or with the ever creepy echo. of course, any bullying was quickly dealt with, Ophelia the type to swing first, ask questions later, and Orpheus, the ever dutiful brother, following suit. once they grew a bit older, few exceptions to their general dislike of other people were found, but they stuck fast. a duo quickly grew to a trio, to a quad, and the twins were no longer so thoroughly attached. they were still close, there was no question of that, but so long as neither twin was alone, they could go off with their preferred friend. they were still seen as a bit odd, but slowly, others began to warm to them.
❖ adolescence
by the time the twins were preteens, they had grown in popularity, though they weren't top dogs by any stretch. it was more that their peers had gotten used to the oddness of the Starvos children together, and had learned well enough that any criticism would end in bloody lips and black eyes. it was also quickly learned, the twins were evil geniuses, and it was best to be on their good side, and maybe get a front row seat to whatever chaos they decided to cause. between Ophelia's planning for all potential ways to be caught and how to escape them, and Opheus' ability to charm nearly any adult with his gentle look, they were menaces who got away with a great deal more than they should. their circle of acquaintances grew steadily, but their friend group never grew from what it had been when they were children. it did, unfortunately, shrink, with Orpheus' main friend outside of his sister withdrawing from them after his father's death. down to an odd number, the twins quickly became inseparable again, though this time as a trio, with their friend rarely not by their sides.
aside from being general mischief makers, their teen years were not much to talk about. they were wild and chaotic as teens left mostly unsupervised usually are, and much the same as they always were. but all things must come to an end eventually, and for Orpheus, the second big ending of his life came when he was 17. suddenly aware of the fact they couldn't live like this forever, that eventually they would have to be adults, settle down with a job at least, he drew back on his more chaotic ways, trying to urge Ophelia to do the same.
❖ adulthood
by 18, Orpheus had calmed down quite a bit, though he still got into the occasional bit of trouble. deciding to put his energy and extensive knowledge of the pack's territory to use, he joined the scouts, much as it hurt to be away from his twin so much. though as they'd gotten older, the twins were better about not constantly being in each other's orbits, they still didn't like to be apart for long, Orpheus wanting to keep Ophelia out of trouble and Ophelia wanting to make sure she would always be around to protect him. still, it was for the best, he justified, and with many snarky comments, she agreed. by 19, the twins had managed to talk their way out of their parent's house and into one of their own, some of the youngest in the pack's history to do so without their reason for moving being starting a family of their own. without the stress of living with their parents, Ophelia calmed down tremendously, and while she still continued to be a bit of a troublemaker, it became well-known amongst everyone that she was the best at nannying and teaching the younger members of the pack. Orpheus only grew in his responsibilities, coming to where he is now, as the de facto head of the scouts, and the unofficial pack therapist. he and Ophelia still live a bachelor life with each other, but as mostly well-respected members of the pack. their home is the first place any pack member goes when they're having a hard time and want either a shoulder to cry on, or a laugh to distract them, and it's not unusual to find the teens of the pack crashing on their couch. the parents all know the Starvos' house is a safe place, and their children will be returned in a much better emotional state than they went in with. | |
