willow's fate was sealed the moment the police showed up at their door.

her brother, river, had gone on a hike with friends ⏤ something he had done countless times before. and then he just disappeared. his friends swear that one moment he was there and the next he was gone. all search efforts were fruitless. no body was ever found.

roughly ten years later, willow is a park ranger in that same forrest where her brother disappeared. because the thing is, river was not the first person to seemingly just vanish, and he wasn't the last. she's determined to find the truth, even if it kills her.

strange boy, clever boy, what do they make of you?

wasted talent, a would-be prodigy. dreams dashed by a father who always pushed his son to toughen up, and a mother who would smile and stroke his hair and promise that he just wants what's best. it's a tough world. you have to be tougher.

the lessons sent him into the arms of a wolf in sheep's clothing. those bright eyes and charming smile and endless promises so sweet they were almost suffocating. nearly two decades of misery would follow.

his husband was drunk when the car went off the road, as he often was. elliot walked away. his husband did not. it was a tragic accident, and nothing more. but he would never escape the knowing looks and whispers. silent accusations. because they had all kept their mouths shut, but they knew.

so he left. drove until the car sputtered and protested and begged for rest. took the first job he could find. it's a fresh start, one where no one knows his name.

percival brockett was always destined for greatness.

his father was a chancellor, his mother a scholar. he was raised with steady diets of history and politics and maths and literature. from a young age it was apparent that his mind would be his greatest weapon and people took notice. while his family hoped he would find employ within the court in such a way where he would not be at risk, but that was not the case.

it was decided when he was young that he would train to become the head of the prince's guard. percival has never cared for the prince and not much has changed over. the years.

he does not love his position but he has accepted it. he is a brilliant strategist and very even keeled. it takes quite a bit for him to lose his temper, but he doesn't swallow his disagreement. he speaks out of turn at times (he's working on it, kind of) but it isn't usually a sign of disrespect.

it seems as though cameron's fate was sealed the moment they were born.

liam powell was a bastard when he was sober and a monster when he wasn't. their only happy memories at home were the times when he wasn't there ⏤ jailed for a laundry list of crimes over the years. and that's exactly where liam was when cameron's mother got sick. they lived with their uncle until liam got out and the nightmare continued.

everyone in town hated liam (and mild contempt for her uncle) ⏤ but they were the only mechanics in town. cameron spent a lot of time in the shop and days were almost decent when liam would bark out c'mere and teach her. they fell in love with cars and they swear it's the only good thing liam ever gave her.

cameron got picked on a lot in high school and she was no stranger to fights. which made them just like her father. poisoned fruit. nothing good was ever going to come of them. at some point she (mostly) stopped fighting, accepted this new role. liam's been gone for years but she's still there in that garage. still fixing cars because. they're still the only shop in town. tries to tamper down the loneliness and numbness with bikes and racing, desperate to feel anything.
