Appearance:: Inspiration 1 Inspiration 2
Standing at five feet nine inches Mirimah has a lean light build with light curves to her hips and bosom. Her light build can often belie the muscle underneath and many have underestimated her strength. She has a softly angular face, with high cheekbones, a rounded chin, strong jawline, and hazel-brown eyes that sometimes appear almost orange in the right lighting. Mirimah's skin has a light undertone, but one can tell that she has lived much of her life outside as it has a slight sun-kissed appearance. Her hair, a brown with reddish overtones, reaches just below the middle of her back, and messily cut bangs sometimes cover her eyes.
Mirimah keeps herself simply decorated, often taking things she finds in the natural world to do so. She has a few rings in each of her ears, one in each lobe and two in her cartilage of her left ear. Besides her earrings the only other jewelry she wears are two brooch pins with beading with her
fur collar and cloak, and a simple silver
locket that was her mother's. She does not have any tattoos, but has been known to paint decorations on her face and body, both for fun and camouflage purposes. Usually she will have a dutch braid on each side of her head, pulling her hair away from her face, with everything then being pulled into a loose braid. This helps keep it out of her face, and sometimes she will wear it loose or with more decorative braids, and will often weave a feather or something she considers interesting/pretty into her hair.
Mirimah usually prefers to wear light and simple clothing. Usually consisting of a loose sleeveless deep v-neck muted blue tunic that is open on the sides past her hips and hangs between her legs in the front and back, coming to a soft point just before her knees. Underneath she wears a fitted sleeveless v-neck chemise. Both are kept in place with a wide leather cincher, that has some woven decorations on it, and holds her coin purse, a small belt knife, water skin, and a leather pouch with some herbs and medicine. Atop this she also wears a shaggy mottled grey wool collar, that sometimes is worn on top of a cloak, that is kept in place with two brooch pins and beading in between. Along her arms you will simply find a pair of
leather bracers. On her legs she usually wears dark fitted breeches with leather thigh guards on top and leather boots that reach above the knee.
At first glance, most will easily see Mirimah as human. But upon closer inspection her elven heritage is spotted in her pointed ears, the litheness of her build, and her unsuspecting strength and durability.
➸
Personality:: Upfront Mirimah can seem aloof and sometimes cold, she has definitely built up walls around herself and does not trust easily. In fact many who have met her have described her as prideful, stubborn, and often has a disregard for rules. And in all honesty they aren't entirely wrong. Usually she prefers to do things on her own and will not ask for help, she can be rather hard headed sometimes, and she has broken a few laws in her days. But these descriptions are also coming from strangers who don't know the whole story.
Mirimah is indeed prideful, but that is because for most of her life she has been forced to prove herself to gain any acceptance. And she has put a lot of time and practice into her skills and abilities. What many have described as stubborn, is in fact a person who feels very strongly and is often willing to hold her ground. Strong-headed is something she has been all her life, even as a child, and it won't be changed now. And for her entire existence the rules and laws have often been used against her, or have been ignored because she is neither only human or elf. So forgive her if she does not feel obligated to follow such loosely followed societal constructs.
Deep down though, Mirimah is a free-spirited being. She loves adventure, is curious about her world, and is extremely loyal and protective of those that she has allowed within her walls. She is not cruel and understands the value of kindness. Being on her own she has had to build her own ideas of the world and how things function. She has her own devised set of morals and most definitely beats to her own drum.
Demiray is a very straight forward bird. He has no need to follow human constructs of manners and despises non-sense. He can have an odd-sense of humor, but helps stabilize Mirimah's sometimes rash decisions. Though he himself does not often display human emotions, being with Mirimah has allowed him to better understand them.
➸
Weapons:: Mirimah's primary weapons are a
bow that she built herself and a pair of
dual swords. Beyond these she does carry with her a small knife tucked into her boot (for added protection), a small belt knife that she usually uses for collecting herbs, and a hunting knife.
Demiray is also more than capable of helping in a fight, his sharp talons are more than able to do damage to a foe. And Mirimah's connection with him all her to use him to get better perspectives within a fight.
Background
Mirimah is the result of a casual evening her mother had with a human merchant that briefly visited her clan. Mirmah's mother, Evelyn, grew up within a clan that harbored ill feelings towards humans. The clan elders did their best to instill in all young elves that humans were a disease upon the earth, who did not value the bounties of nature, and were beneath the elven folk. Some of these feelings likely originated from a long history of elves and humans having differing beliefs, and the longer lives of the elves often instilled them with more wisdom and sense of superiority. Because of these sentiments, Evelyn's parent's were outraged once they learned their daughter was pregnant with a half-human child. Refusing to abort the pregnancy, Evelyn was banished by the clans elders, and was forced to leave her home.
Evelyn was 22 and three months pregnant when she was forced to leave her clan. Eventually Evelyn met the healer, Neila, of a small village who was willing to offer her a place to stay in exchange for help around her cottage and assistance with patients, as Evelyn was also a skilled healer. The village accepted Evelyn well enough, but she was fairly certain that it was only out of respect for Neila that some of the villagers remained civil with her. Nonetheless, Neila was a kind soul who did seem to care for Evelyn and helped her during a difficult time. Evelyn's pregnancy progressed normally, and she was filled with joy at the prospects of the life she was carrying within her womb. And when she finally went into labor, she was ready to finally meet the being she had carried for nine months. But Evelyn was not prepared for the long and painful labor she had to endure before Mirimah was born. Even Neila has commented on how long Evelyn's labor was. However, something else happened during Mirimah's birth that usually overshadows Evelyn's labor pains. As Evelyn labored, a mated pair of wolves stalked the edge of Neila's property, one was the darkest black and the other was the brightest of whites, the full moon illuminating their forms. Their attention focused on the cottage the entire time they circled the perimeter. After the excruciating hours of labor came to a close, Mirimah gave the first crying wail of life and her cry was soon echoed by the howls of the mated wolves. After passing a wrapped Mirimah to Evelyn, Neila glanced out the window to find the two wolves had left. Mirimah heard this story often as she grew up, both from Neila and her Mother, but neither gave any indication as to what it meant.
Mirimah grew up learning herbalism from her Mother and Neila, though she never truly had a healer's touch. Instead she proved to be more skilled at hunting and trapping. Both of which she learned from her Mother, along with how to wield dual swords, a common weapon choice within her Mother's clan. Growing up Mirimah loved being in the wilderness, exploring everything nature had to offer her, the simplicity of it, and the solitude. So it only made sense that Mirimah was alone in the woods, when she learned something peculiar about herself. Practicing with her bow, 13 year old Mirimah was focusing on the the bulls eye of a target when her sight went out of focus and she saw another part of the forest, but she knew that part of the woods was a mile from where she presently was. Her vision soon focused back onto her target, but she lowered her bow staring at it in confusion. Mirimah took a deep breath, trying to shake it off. Raising her bow again she took aim, but it happened again, this time she was staring at herself, but from behind. Mirimah spun on her heel, her bow still raised. Searching behind her, she finally spotted a white falcon in a tree a few yards from where she stood. The falcon unnerved her as it stared back, it held an odd intelligence within its brown eyes. Mirimah began to slowly lower her bow, when a soft voice echoed through her mind,
'Hello, Mirimah.'
Mirimah quickly raised her bow back up, aiming at the bird as his head cocked in her direction.
'Now, now. There is no need for violence.'
Mirimah's eyes were wide as she stared in disbelief, she could hear her heart pounding in her ears as she tried to speak.
'Hu...Hu..how? What...what are you?' Her bow still raised as she stared at the falcon.
'A gyrfalcon, I would have thought that obvious.'
Mirimah stared in silence at the bird, her mind reeling with the fact that this creature understood her, the truly confusing part was that she seemed to sense a hint of amusement from him.
'You can call me Demiray. As for how we are communicating. It is because you have the Sight Mirimah, as do I. And we are bonded because it.'
Mirimah absently relaxed her grip on her bow and lowered it to her side. She sensed no ill intention from the falcon, and what was this sight that he spoke of?
'Is that...what happened before? With my vision, I mean.'
'Yes.'
Demiray stretched, flapping his wings, eventually flying closer to her, as he went into more detail, to explain the Sight. Mirimah learned that he became aware of her existence and their bond through a vision. Demiray explained some what Mirimah may expect in the coming weeks, as her abilities began to manifest themselves. Eventually the two wandered back to Mirimah's home, where Mirimah decided to keep her revelation hidden from Neila and her Mother until she understood it more.
Despite her plan to keep Demiray secret from her Mother, the changes the Sight began to bring about in Mirimah eventually gave her away. Within a few weeks Mirimah's senses became heightened, she could share her vision with Demiray, which often happened sporadically as things leveled out, and a sort of wildness seem to come over Mirimah's mannerisms. So when her Mother confronted her about it, she finally explained it all. To Mirimah's surprise her Mother responded with a soft smile and a hug. It turned out that her Mother's clan had stories about the Sight. The only part that seemed to confuse her Mother was that the Sight was an ability shared between Lera and Varg, none of the stories spoke of humans or elves possessing the gift. Sadly her Mother was not the only one to notice changes within her daughter. The villagers noticed the odd changes in the child, and some became unnerved by it. There were those that already held some disdain for Evelyn and her daughter. Old prejudices against elves seemed to be hard to snuff out. But most kept their distance and only spoke about them behind closed doors, mostly out of respect for Neila. But some became more open about their prejudices and began directing them towards Mirimah. Eventually Mirimah opted to make herself more scarce within the village, she was more than content spending her time with Demiray in the woods.
This tactic served Mirimah and the villagers well for a time. But when Mirimah turned 16 Neila died. Despite it being the result of old age, there were some who placed some blame on Mirimah. Being a child of both human and elf, some already considered her an ill omen. Add the strange and animal like tendencies into the mix and some were willing to place Neila's death on Mirimah's head. Because of this Mirimah started being harassed by some of the towns people. Most of the time she could avoid them, but she did still live with her Mother in Neila's old cottage, Evelyn having taken over Neila's spot as the town's healer after her death. Eventually Mirimah opted to move into the woods more, only coming to her Mother's cottage when she knew others wouldn't be there. However, it didn't seem to be enough. Travelers from another village came through one week to trade and brought with them stories of a beast like human that had ravaged their village. Luring children into the woods, destroying food stores, and attacking people. This lead to a discussion of the beast like half human that lived in the woods around their forest.
Mirimah was preparing a rabbit she trapped earlier that day at her camp, when Demiray's warning came to her. A group of men in the village were coming for her with torches and pitchforks. Decreeing that she must be the beast that had ravaged the neighboring village. Despite suspecting this might happen Mirimah was filled with a sense of rage. How could they turn on her when she and her Mother had done nothing but cared for these people when they were at their weakest. Standing up quickly Mirimah sheathed her swords and reached for bow and quiver, preparing to knock an arrow.
'Mirimah. You cannot fight them. There are too many.'
Mirimah gritted her teeth as another flash of the mob appeared in her vision.
'I have to try! I will not be defeated so easily.'
'And die because of your pride.'
Mirimah stood with her bow raised, breathing steadily preparing her shot, she would not be scared so easily. Another image flashed across her vision, it was her Mother this time running. Then she heard it.
"Mirimah!" Foot steps crashed behind her and then her Mother was there.
Mirimah spun, lowering her bow, as she made eye contact with her Mother.
"You must go! Now! They are coming for you." Evelyn took off the bag she had slung across her body and shoved it at Mirimah.
"I have tried to calm their fears, but they will not listen. They believe you to be the one to ravaged the neighboring village." Evelyn had grabbed Mirimah's face between her hands, her gentle voice speaking with firmness. She could see the anger grow in her daughter's eyes.
"Then I will prove to them the beast I can be! Let them come. I am tired of this."
"Miri, no. You do not mean that. Please go now." Evelyn stared at her daughter.
The breath went out of Mirimah's lungs and she folded forward, embracing her Mother and hiding her tears in her shoulder.
Giving Mirimah a squeeze before pulling her back to look her in the eyes again, Evelyn wiped the tears from her cheeks.
"Remember you are stronger than them, you are more cunning, you are more swift, and you are more kind. You are not a beast my darling. You are of the wilderness and it scares them." Yelling could be heard in the distance.
"Now hurry! We must both be out of here before they arrive. Go and do not return here Mirimah."
Mirimah looked at her Mother one last time, holding back the tears.
'We must go now!' Demiray's voice cutting straight through her mind.
Mirimah swung the bag and her bow over her shoulder and looked at her Mother one last time.
"I love you." Her voice a soft whisper.
"I love you too."
And then they both turned from each other and ran their separate ways, never looking back.
This was almost ten years ago. Now Mirimah is 26 and she wanders around with Demiray offering her services as skilled hunter, tracker, and every so often a mercenary. Most of her time is spent on her own in the woods. But she still spends some of her time collecting herbs and making various medicines and salves from them, as her Mother taught her long ago.
Skills
➸
Hunting/Trapping:: Mirimah learned from her Mother how to be a successful hunter. She now puts these skills to use to help her earn a living. Hunting for people who hire her and selling the by-products from her own hunts for a profit. She is also extremely comfortable within the wilderness and so is often hired out to complete tasks for those who are less at home in the woods.
➸
Herbalism:: Living with two skilled healers, Mirimah learned about the various plants that can be found in the wilderness. Which ones can help you or cause harm to people. She does not have the same skill with healing that her mother possessed, but has a working knowledge of how to create tonics and medicines.
➸
The Sight:: Mirimah's biggest secret is that she possesses the ability of the Sight. She prefers to keep this ability to herself, because so little is known about it. And a few villages have expressed in some of her inquiries, that is in ill omen. Presently the Sight grants her with heightened senses, allowing her better eyesight, hearing, and a sense of smell. It also allows her to communicate with Demiray and they can see through each other's eyes. Because of their bond, it also allows Mirimah to understand animals through Demiray and for Demiray to understand humans through her. The Sight also has brought a sort of animalistic wildness to Mirimah. Because the changes from the Sight started during some of her formative years into adulthood, she does not quite understand the difference this characteristic has brought to her. But many people in her travels have stated that her aura reminds them more of a beast than a human or elf. Because of this many people within villages seem to, out of instinct, be uneasy around Mirimah.
