About Me (The Person)

Hello there! My name is (unsurprisingly) Justin. I formerly wrote under the name 'Ducky' though have transitioned to just using my given name for sake of ease. I'm a 35 year old retiree who used to do cool stuff for the government but took one few too many explosions to continue that as a viable career path. I have been roleplaying for the better part of 25 years and have written, ran, and helped in the craft and design of various mediums of roleplay and collaborative storytelling.

I have been described as a modern day cowboy, who got lost on his way to purchase his dream hobby-ranch and somehow wound up in Michigan. No, that isn't a joke. I wish it was. I'd be happy to expand on that for you sometime because the story is as absolutely ridiculous as it sounds.

My relationship with writing has been one of constant ebb and flow though I seem always to return to it as a means of expression and creative outlet. Unlike a large subsect of the membership here on Sanctum, I could not give less of a fuck about smut. I am happy to write it as a means of developing the story, and have even written some stories where it was relatively regular, as that was a strong character development medium for the character's in that particular story. However, if you are a writer who's focus is entirely on the production and development of smut, and not the progress and growth of story plot, then I promise that I'm not the partner for you.

I enjoy active collaboration and communication from my partners, and I am typically always available to correspond with within reason. I will typically respond once a day, though occasionally may be more depending on my level of engagement, your response time, and what is currently happening in the story. I would ideally like the same level of commitment, but am open to less with the communication being clear about what I can expect from you.

About the Writing

I regularly write 500 - 1,000+ word replies consisting of as many paragraphs as makes literary sense to befit that number of words. I genuinely strive to never deliver anything below 500 words, and while it may happen on occasion, it is in no way my Modus Operandi.

As previously mentioned, I've been writing for well over twenty years and started in chatrooms, progressed to message boards (like this one), and then developed into real-time text based games such as MUSH, MOO's and MUD's — and if you know what any of those are, you're probably as old, or older, than I am, and I like you already.

Typically, I write characters that are rough around the edges, as often realistic characters are. I tend to lean toward middle-aged character's and I will likely not entertain the thought of writing someone in their young twenties if that is something you're looking for. I aim to capture dark, gritty, and mature themes with authenticity and enjoy difficult scenario's and situations that make us as writers troubleshoot and plan for fun and exciting story arcs.

I enjoy world building (to an extent) in the fact that I enjoy fleshing out small details about characters, places, etc. I will likely do that for me and character's / NPC's that I bring into the story regardless of if you do or not, but if you are someone who also enjoys engaging in that then I would love the opportunity to develop some more depth to the world(s) that we come to craft together. I regularly indulge in crafting depthy Discord channels to break down story developments, features, and details like some sort of modern day rolodex of information.

I am aware of the content this site possesses. I am not here for the smut undertones laced in everything. I'm here because quality creative writing communities are few and far between and I have had more success here than anywhere else. I'm not against smut as long as it progresses character development and/or plot points.

• I am not here to write your sexual fantasies.
• I will not entertain your extremely niche fetishes.
• I won't write a character intended to be more 'attractive' to your tastes.

I will also literally never ask any of those things from you. I'm here for the collaborative writing and the socialization, not to fulfill fantasies

I will always prioritize my writing partners in the order in which we interact. I intentionally keep my writing circle very small as I focus on quality over quantity. I will give you the utmost level of attention and respect as you give me but know that I will not distract focus from my current partner(s) or their stories, who take absolute priority, just to add another if I don't think that I can logically or realistically manage more. I focus on being actively engaged with a certain level of dedication to my partner(s).

What I'm Looking For

I'm looking for a writing partner who can regularly achieve a 500-1,000+ word minimum who doesn't shy away from developing a credible and engaging story. I would ideally like to keep the one-a-day response time if possible but I am also a realist when it comes to the fact that in my retirement I do not expect people to have the same level of availability as I do.

I'm open to most all genre's from historical fantasy to futuristic sci-fi and any and all in-between. If I have any particular cravings I will list a brief overview of the concept here though to be honest that is rarely the case for me. I can engage with most settings and instead care more about the quality of the plot content and the competency and communication of my writing partner. I like to engage in OOC collaboration when possible but in no way require character outlines or sheets prior to the story start.

In terms of story settings, I will typically not have two stories that are remarkably similar going on at the same time as I feel that for me as a writer it detracts from my focus wholly on that one character in that theme. That isn't to say whole genre's are off the table if I'm already writing one, but the story has to be pointedly different than one I'm already engaged in for me to really consider it.

I promise that despite the very serious and straightforward nature of this post that I'm super easygoing and am very easy to talk to with a remarkably sarcastic sense of humor. It is an unfortunate reality that it needs to be very strict and to the point because there has been too many engagements from people who barely even read these posts let alone process any of the information in them. If you've gotten to this point of the post, know that I would genuinely love to hear from you and your ideas, I'm just tired of low-effort writers trying to have their fantasies fulfilled.

When I'm not around The Sanctum I'm almost always available via Discord for my established partner(s), though DM's are the best way to start contact. I try and treat my partner(s) like my friends / people and not just writing machines operating opposite of a fictional character. We are both people actively engaged in the development of the worlds which we create.
