Hello everyone. I'm Morgan if you don't know and thought I'd give this a try and see what kind of interest that I can drum up here. First, let's get the meat of it out of the way.
The Premise
Two parallel universes have lived side by side unbeknownst to one another, a realm ruled by science and one ruled by magic. Today that all changed. The two worlds collided, merging together in a spectacular and unforeseen event to create one world, one universe where the two forces could coexist in harmony. Or so the powers that be had hoped.
These two realms were quite similar, but ultimately ruled by two different forces: science and magic. The realm of science was much like the world we all know and live in and was thereby dubbed the mortal realm whereas the realm of magic while modern contained fantastic beings and power at a person's fingertips. This was thus dubbed the mythic realm. Needless to say, the two had problems integrating, but this was only one of many problems.
It happened instantly in a flash of light, but with two full populations coming together, some had to be left behind. Loved ones simply vanished. They were there before and gone the next. Some were replaced by strangers with pointed ears or fangs or multiple limbs. Chaos spread immediately throughout the entire world. Many world leaders were able to come to a conclusion of what was going on just upon meeting their new peers, but they could not come to a conclusion on how to deal with it. The mortal realm was not well prepared for a magical "invasion" as some put it but were too stubborn to listen to the leaders of the mythic realm as to how they handled such power and the responsibility that came with it.
On the streets it was mass panic. No one knew what to do. The world appeared to take cities and locations from both realms and put them together like a mismatched puzzle. Many of the mortal realm were frightened and unnerved of the new denizens even if they were harmless. It was unfortunately the not so harmless and not so friendly ones that were going to ruin it for everyone as they saw this as a new world with no rules upon which they could make their mark.
Magic now flowed through the air and it had an interesting effect on some members of the mortal realm. They were changing. Developing abilities that they never had before or other physical mutations began to appear. Some were extreme, others not so much. They differed from magic as well as these abilities did not require any specific reagents to utilize. Of course, it simply added to the mayhem as now those of the mortal realm could partake in these superhuman criminal acts.
Now, while there were those who chose to use their abilities for evil, others existed who were far more benevolent. Maybe someone would stand up and fight back to protect the innocent.
Other Details
Much as I was proud of myself for most of that write-up, it left a few details out that I couldn't squeeze in without completely disjointing the narrative. Anyway, just think of this as a...FAQ before anyone's asked any questions lol.
First, for denizens of the mythic realm, the amount of people who could utilize magic at a superheroic/villainous level is small. Most people can create small jolts of electricity or move small objects from afar or other similar feats. That said, this still puts them a step above most of the mortal realm's denizens. In addition, many of the mythical/magical creatures are obviously at varying levels of power. Basically it was an excuse to add magical elements to the world.
Piggybacking off of that point, people of the mortal realm who find themselves with new powers are probably not going to be able to utilize them to their fullest potential right away no matter if they plan to do good or evil with them. Those of the mythic realm of course can, but their abilities may be more limited to the magic that they've studied/utilize. As for what types of magic can be used...I'm not picky in that regard. That goes for all powers really. If you come up with something, run it by me and I'll probably say yes. Also on this, despite the chaos happening everywhere, the amount of people capable of causing this damage or using their new powers in any way is still a fraction of the world's population. I haven't worked out the complete scale yet, but there's probably about one hundred people with these capabilities in the city we'll be focusing on to start with.
Science is advanced to the point we have today, so no Iron Man-type armours or other tech of the like at this point. Though, it's quite possible that they're on the cusp of it. Hm...
Your character can be just about anything you want. Someone who just obtained powers, a denizen of the mythic realm trying to cease the chaos, someone taking advantage of their power to steal or control or dominate others or just have gone outright crazy. Various fantasy creatures. Again, I'm not super picky. I'll have a character sheet at some point but I wanted to see what kind of interest if any I could drum up first. Speaking of characters, you're free to use as many as you like and can add more as we go on.
As for the setting, this will take place in the fictional city of Oakwood located near the west coast in Oregon. It's southeast of Portland and as it is fictional we can kind of ad-lib landmarks and such as we go. As far as timeframe goes, this all happened a bit less than a day prior in universe from our starting point.
Lastly, there is an actual explanation behind how this happened, but I'd prefer to leave that as a background element for now, a lingering plot thread that probably won't be resolved until long after the new heroes and villains of the world have been established.
Those were the main things I thought of and I'm obviously happy to answer other questions as well. I'm sure I forgot a few things here or there. I hope it wasn't too much of a read as I get rambly sometimes with planning and don't take that as me wanting people who write pages and pages. Personally, I'm more concerned of whether your characters are interesting and if you can give the other roleplayers something to work with. Coincidentally, this usually ends up being a couple of paragraphs anyway, haha. Anyway, I'm excited to see what kind of interest I might find here! Looking for probably another four-five people.
So as of now there are three players and two pending. Still one other spot for sure open for now, but we will have to see what comes.
