His father has died of disease and his wife is closer to the final sleep than ever. His son is missing, supposedly captured in a minor skirmish with their foes; and his two daughters are engaged to the sons of his master's progeny to solidify their relationship in the eyes of the court. With all of these events occurring in contrast to his duties as the lord's shield, Mørn looks for hope in the dimness of a war-torn age. This is Mørn of Gérinsgôrd, and this is his story.

Harold Frankish

Profile: Fair faced, white, male, stocky, barrel-chested, hazel eyes, smooth nostrils, a dark head of hair, swept to one side and buzzed on the sides. He sports a raven black beard, neatly trimmed, even around the edges. It is course and fluid. He expresses little emotion beyond dull interest, and dour compassion; thought most times people confess "a sorrowful disposition in a ponderous caricature."

Attire: Outside of the required dress for school (for future reference), Harold is recorded to wear a wool jacket with a white undershirt and pleated trousers, grey, over white cotton socks, and black leather derbies.

Biography: Harold is the sole heir of the proprietors of the Frankish Estate. His parents were famous artists with predilections for the austere and fastidious. What set Harold apart from most at a young age was his exceptional acumen; he was adept in the liberal arts; abnormally gifted.
At 13, Harry was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome, Attention Deficit Disorder, and a host of other mental disorders; yet his parents were unconvinced and for the next eight years, they continued consulting different experts who came to equally dissatisfying conclusions.
On his 22nd birthday, a representative from a special school called the "Academy for the Mystically Gifted" arrived at their house to offer Harold the opportunity to study in an environment conducive to his talents; nothing of this interview was documented; the parents resisted any efforts for the press to question them. What is agreed, however, is after a week of (supposed) deliberation, Frankish junior was sent off to AMG. The next five years of his education are carefully preserved in the following correspondences between Harold and an unknown acquaintance… Unfortunately, Harold's abilities defy definition; no expert has been able to discover scientific evidence to corroborate his powers, but all academic thinkers agree on three things:

Frankish is innately skilled in the operation or creation of a thing. Of the many fields of study he learned or read about through his life before AMG, Frankish mastered History, Hagiography, Art, Architecture, Genetics, Linguistics, Archeology, Medicine, Logistics, Sociology, Cultural History, Cartography; principal fields of the study uncovered by testimonies were given in interview by Harold himself (though he distinctly reserved further illumination despite considerable coercion).

Frankish is capable of physically and mentally paralyzing a person with a glare.

He can navigate one's memories and ingest them into his own psyche. In simple terms, he has the power to incorporate another's understanding of things into his own library of information.

a. Biography: Gerthë Éirmâd is the first son of Gerald Éirmâd and Frida Éirmâd. His brothers Hadr and Érigg is on campaign in the northern foothills fighting nomadic steppe peoples who've journeyed from the far north to raid and pillage and, perhaps, colonize.
The stern young man remains tolerant of the family's decision to match him with the daughter of one of their allies, the Hralgr [Great Hands]. His desire for the kingship is only rivaled by his love for storytelling. He is often engaged in lessons with his personal tutor. He also studies the stratagems of war and how to ride and command a long ship, as well as lead men through the rigorous and daring tactic of şildgeff, or sword-gate [our world's equivalent to the Saxon shield wall].
His prospects for marriage were many, but now he learns of a new match. This is a political meeting and the family expects him to honor their house. He obliges, though there are others who see this newcomer as a challenger, an opponent for the house seat.

4. Hrüdrvån of Ftårgveld

a. Age: 21

b. Birthplace: Ftårgveld [The Frigid Vale]

c. Occupation: King

5. Biography: Hrüdrvån, King of the Frigid Vale—one of the four principle dominions in the world of [insert name of continent]—was cold, sour man, with equally cold eyes—cast in a light blue hue—and dour countenance; his boxy nose suggested a disciplined character with an emphasis on judicious action and stout resistance. Hrüdrvån—sometimes Hrüd the Frigid (after the land he ruled) or Hrüdr the Red Dragon (for his fiery temper)—was cautious and shrewd in his dealings with the other realms, always considering the politics within each case. It was his prerogative to maintain a stolid watch over his realm and defend against those who would rise against its' solidarity and threaten its' sovereignty. Yet he is not as rigid as his profile entails him to be; to be honest, he's a garrulous spokesman, when the need arises. In his dealings with other representatives and diplomats from the other four kingdoms, he is accounted, "as a man deliberative in his motions, considerate in mood, and poetic in prose."
The only thing Hrüdr lacks is a sense of competition. It was intentionally made so because the Lord's moot felt compelled to interject his sovereignty over the other kings and rulers in the region. Hence when the lords met in the grand assembly chamber, he made certain that none could dare fool him into complacency again. All that is told of that day is "when the sun rose over the grand hall, the blood ran into the very stones." No further mention is made.
However ominous or dark the mood, however, Hrüdrvån is—above all—tempered.
Local witnesses of his appearance say he "wears dark clothes, leather in tailoring, with juxtaposed grey and blue stockings under a pair of loose woolen trousers. He wears a finely quilted doublet, slashed with a grey-green combination. Other articles are of the same hue, but of either formal or travel ware.
"In battle, he is donned in a chainmail hose, with doublet, woolen trousers, black, leather belt, and scabbard. His sword is long as his arm and superbly forged; iron-wrought, it is deadly to behold. His pommel is rounded, hollowed into a narrow cross. He also carries a kite shield, bearing the charge of his household: a white crescent over a black field. I am told it signifies the rising of the light in the darkness of night; or something of that nature, I can't say exactly.
His panoply aside, the man is well built; stocky, barrel-chested, a long beard, groomed, black in color, his hair cut close to the scalp, except for the slope of his head, above the neck, and behind the ears—he leaves those shaven.
Under a great helm, and suited in moleskin gloves, the king of the Frigid Vale is a sight to behold; and a terror to fear."
The land he reigns over is as cold and despondent as he is. It is cold, but for the winding steppes that one must cross before entering into the heartland; it is then layered in thick levels of snow; cloistered in a long shadow of forests that swerve through the landscape and occasionally interposed by a long river or icy stream. Mountains range the eastern border, cutting off any route to sortie into, or withdraw from the lands. The cities are heavily garrisoned, fortified by strong timber walls and secondary defenses. The strongest of these settlements are mottes and baileys or circular stone castles, three layers deep.
The people are stout and dubious of strangers but are welcoming to those who offer the right trade or tribute. Overall, the kingdom of Hrüdrvån of Ftårgveld is strong, steadfast, and watchful, as is their lord and ruler.
