The world is a place of mystery, nothing is ever as it seems no matter how many times you watch it. The same action by two people could mean two very different things. For example, a kiss for one could be a show of love, but for another but a tool to get what they want, a temptation, a ruse, a lie. This was how Nevermore saw the world, nothing but a simple raven to the world, a harbinger of death some called his kind, but to some a companion. How many years had it been now, watching all these strange interactions between these creatures his masters had called 'humans', they were a tricky lot. This race never seemed to learn, but his newest master did not care much for them nor was she hostile towards the race.
Perching in a tree he looked down, a crowd of these creatures called humans wearing black hooded capes were gathering together. These old ruins were those of a village long forgotten now, but he did remember they always held the most beautiful festivals all those centuries ago. But his mind snapped back to observing these strange creatures once more. Chattering amongst themselves they seemed to have voices with higher-pitched tones for the most part, which normally meant these were females. Ruffling his feathers he continued to watch. It was when one of them, he assumed was the leader pulled something out, something glorious. A large red gem, a ruby it's shone gloriously in the moonlight, he watched as many of them almost fawned over this large shiny stone. Desperate to touch it but at least he knew restrained, these witches were but amateurs in his eyes, always be cautious when approaching shiny things.
As they placed it in the centre they also drew what was known more commonly as a knife, a very complex-looking one from the looks of it with silver engravings throughout the hilt. Head tilting he could not help but desire to cause mischief. To watch how these creatures would react. So of course he flew down, skillfully picking the knife up in his beak and then tossing it haphazardly in a random direction. Going back to his branch he watched their reaction.
Gasps of shock, before the leader, shouted, almost scaring the raven for a moment "The great god Coronis has spoken! We seal this gem in the westward tunnels!" it was at that point the raven watched them picking the gem up and putting it in some weird box, it was locked away with a key and then taken into the tunnels in the same direction he saw the knife rest. It was at such a point the black-feathered bird had a thought These witches are nuts!. These strange creatures were odd, most of their elaborate actions made little to no sense to this bird but at the end of it all he found a treasure.
The key was dropped, and swiftly he grabbed it and watched their panic, delight lighting up his eyes. AH, this is more like it! he was overjoyed by the usual panicking sounds that made him happy. Watched as some even tried scrambling up the tree to get him before he looked right at the witch, giddy with joy he was before flying off. His new master would like this gift.
Sure enough, as he landed on the window, hopping inside he could see his master was playing with that vampire again. He dropped the key, a clatter on the ground before speaking, a strange voice from a raven "I Found Red Shiny!" delighted with himself. His master was quite pleased but as was the vampire beside him. Watched as they too soon disappeared into the night. But with that, his work was done and it was time to sleep.
