About me
What I look for
- Who am I?: As you can see plastered all over the UI, I am Vee Forbidden. I've been roleplaying as a hobby off-and-on for the better part of 15 years now. I've started on Yahoo!Groups, then moved on to Elliquiy and have even survived the cesspit that is F-List. Currently, I mostly look around various Discord servers but I do miss the stability of a good, active forum. After being referred this place, I decided to give it a shot. And after writing all that, I now feel exceedingly old...
- Experience: As mentioned before, I have been roleplaying at various levels of activity for over 15 years. I've done forum-based and chat-based roleplay, both one-on-one and group. Most of all, I love tabletop roleplaying and I try to bring that passion for storycrafting and consistent characterization to my posts(to varying levels of success!).
- Post length: I operate on a flexible post length. I usually provide at least a paragraph of solid material, but this minimum can be increased to match a writing partner's preferences. Depending on the context of the post, my writing can get much longer too, with openers, scene transitions and important, introspective moments running to multiple paragraphs easily. I do not demand any particular post length from a partner. Feel free to write however much or little as you see fit, so long as I have something to work with. I also like keeping dialogue-heavy scenes quick and snappy, with spoken words purposely limited to allow for a natural back-and-forth. Bottom line: don't stress about it and just write.
- Writing tense: I exclusively write in third-person, past tense. I usually use the perspective of an all-seeing observer, but am more than willing to stick to a single character's perspective if preferred.
- Communication: I value open communication. It's hard to know what someone wants if they don't come out and say it. I stick to this myself too, and will engage in frequent OOC communication on the subject of a role play whenever something needs to be planned/ironed out/clarified. That being said, if you don't hear from me OOC for a while, that always means I have no complaints. If I take issue with something, I will always approach.
- Style/Focus: I've never been much of an avid book reader myself, so I think my style can be somewhat clinical. I describe what characters see and do in a direct fashion. Character development is probably what I like writing the most. Impactful scenes that fundamentally alter a character's perspective; for better or worse. I also adore world building, so I tend to inject tidbits of lore where I can, even if that subject matter is never expanded on. I feel it makes a world come alive, just to make it clear there are people beyond the PCs out there, going through their own stories.
- Frequency: With a family and a full-time job, I am generally unable to post more than once a day. The most realistic and common posting frequency for me is once every three to four days. For the right idea and at a partner's request, I can try and increase that. But, sometimes unavoidable delays will happen. I always warn my writing partners for periods of inactivity that will be unusually long (holidays, increased workload, etc.).
- Themes: I enjoy a very broad range of themes in my stories, which depend heavily on the characters, setting and genre involved. Sometimes I gravitate towards lighthearted, almost comedic stories, other times I don't mind delving into depressingly dark themes that explore some heavy subject matter. As such, I have a high tolerance for gore, violence, sexual content and more, so long as all of these elements are not gratuitous and always in service of telling a good story.
- Limits: Eroticism plays a big part in a lot of my stories. As such, kink limits come up often enough. I, myself, am very vanilla in my own preferences, but am flexible in meeting the wishes of a writing partner. My only limits are the truly hardcore kinks, such as gore, vore, anything to do with bodily waste, etc. To tie into the Communication bullet point above, if you have a specific want, or get triggered by certain kinks that might come up, shoot me an OOC message and we can always work things out. The worst I can say is 'no', after all.
What I look for
- Partners: Roleplayers who can hold their own when brainstorming, introducing new plot elements and working on good chemistry between characters. I don't require any particular amount of experience, nor grammar competence. As long as you're willing and able to pull your weight or learn on-the-go, you're welcome. I've never been a fan of gatekeeping; we all have to start somewhere. As mentioned before, I value open communication and appreciate people who are open and honest with what they are looking for. The more direct you are, the faster we can get to a story that we'll both enjoy. Roleplayers who are flexible and can catch me off-guard with sudden twists and turns in a story are particularly appreciated.
- Plotting: I'm very flexible here and can either iron out the minutia of a plot, or simply brainstorm the setup and go with the flow from there. It all depends on the idea and what my writing partner prefers. I do appreciate someone who can share world building duties and injects their own flair into what we're establishing.
- Frequency: I have no specific preferences here. As long as the post frequency is established in advance and a simple message is given for unusual delays (specifics not required), anything goes. Life is busy, after all.
- Dialogue: Something I've realized more recently is the subconscious habit of wanting to write posts as long as possible. In that pursuit, I've often written many lines of dialogue in a single post, neglecting to give my writing partner the opportunity to respond. Or, if they do wish to respond to everything that has been said, then the posts start consisting of multiple, simultaneous conversations. As a result, I prefer conversations to have shorter posts, containing a single - or very few - statements. It allows for conversation to flow more naturally. I have noticed that this is becoming a lot more common across roleplaying communities, so I don't expect this to be an issue.
- Genres: As you can tell by the tags attached to this thread, I enjoy a very wide variety of genres and sub-genres. I tend to favor high fantasy, hard sci-fi, military and political roleplays, but they are by no means mandatory.
- Canon/Original: Below you'll find a long list of canon settings that I enjoy, which is by no means exhaustive. However, I enjoy creating something entirely our own just as much, if not more.
- Erotica: While I enjoy it and tend to find ways to include, I can enjoy role plays that do not feature this at all just as well. As for gender pairings: I roleplay with any and all. I have a character vault that lists a growing collection of characters both old and new. Most of them come with their individual preferences. But, for any profile created for a particular roleplay, anything goes.
