On July 4th, 1995, 18 women, both willingly and unwillingly placed in the custody of the U.S. government, had labor induced at the exact same time. Each had within them a child imbued with extraordinary powers, genetically engineered to produce abilities people only ever saw in comic books.
Created with the intention of one day having an elite team of superpowered soldiers at the government's disposal, the resultant children were all raised at a military-funded estate in Detroit, Michigan, by Majors Reginald James McNash and Lee Murray, who posed as wealthy, eccentric bachelors who'd taken joint custody of several orphans. There, they were trained to fight, harness their abilities, unlock unforseen ones, and to "belong" amongst civilians. The purpose of all this preparation was to ready the children for the future, when they were assumed to inevitably become superheroes.
Each of them is now 24 years old now, and none of them ever did.

The children, years after leaving behind their lives of hero training, have been invited back to their old home in Detroit, to attend the wedding of their newly revealed to be gay 70-something year old fathers. None of them have kept in contact with each other since their departures, and coming back home sparks thoughts about what it would've been like to be the heroes everyone else saw them as, instead of what they turned out to be.
Unfortunately, their wishful thinking might just come true.

Restrictions:
- Schtick-stealing. (If someone already has an animal-mutated character, for example, pick something else.)
- Mismatched powers. (Manipulation of two elements, or super-strength and heat vision.)
- Clairvoyancy or any kind. (Visions, fortune-telling.)
- Creation of matter. (Making weapons or objects out of nothing. Matter must have a source. Any power you believe doesn't fall under this category will be subject to review.)
- Lycanthropy. (Transformation into a feral animal. Nekos and anthropomorphic animals are not exceptions. DISCLAIMER: This does not mean no animal-themed mutations. Pick an animal, and use some ideas you can think of from that animal. A hawk could have wings, retractable "talons," and enhanced sight.)
- Invulnerability/indestructibility. (Should be obvious, really. Might make things like metal skin hard to pull off.)
We deal in Q U A L I T Y in this household, babies. Please be:
- Semi-proficient in the use of quotation marks for dialogue, and knowledgeable of the fact that actions shouldn't be distinguished from speech by being surrounded by asterisks.
- Able to write two decent-sized paragraphs per post.
- Capable of writing a decently-structured sentence more than half the time.
(For my sake, please center your character sheets when you post them.)
