Lights flashing in red and blue illuminated the oppressing darkness, distant voices calling out. The night was buzzing with activity, people moving about. More cars joining the scenes as people in white overalls crawled about, meticulously detailing the events that had brought them here, increasingly staining their suits red. Shortly after midnight the calls had come in on the sounds of horrific screams coming from the fraternity house. One caller had called from near the house and the first responder could pick up on a bloodcurdling scream before the caller apologised in a panic and ran off, before cutting the call. Because the police had initially assumed it was a frat party, they had taken their time. That was until the scream. With renewed urgency they had called in an ambulance to join the police on the scene. That same ambulance sat quietly at the sidewalk, the paramedics tending to the investigators coming out of the house. Pale, weak, some vomitting. They did what they could until the officers were calmed down enough and forced themselves back in. No one injured was found at the scene, but the police had blocked their entrance shortly after arriving. There was nothing they could do. They couldn't know that, but the scene that had greeted them through the door, was enough to decided to call in reinforcements and bar any entrance into the building. The paramedics had angrily made their case, unwilling to accept there was nothing they could do. Clearly something had happened, there could still be wounded inside for all they knew. One of them, a strong veteran of 42, had tried to force his way inside, but halted shortly after opening the door. Stepping back, he had paled at the gore before him. Blood splattered the ground and the walls. Some on the ceiling. A hand was holding on the railing of the staircase, torn clear from the body, or what remained of it at the bottom of the stairs. From the crumpled and bloody heap he could barely make out the mangled head and possibly the arm that was supposed to be attached to the hand. A scream sound from upstairs, but he reeled back and threw closed the door. "We'll wait at the ambulance." He said brusquely, not explaining and dragging his confused and frustrated partner behind him without a wor
"Here's another sir!" The call came from the house. Light flashes followed, a bag was brought and notes were made untill a green looking rookie stepped out of the house holding a bag with a torn off jaw. The rookie added the bag to the growing collection in the cooler, noticing now how his hand was still shaking. He clasped his hands, white gloves turning pink and read and forced himself to take a deep breath, willing his hands to steady themselves. Looking to the side he saw the two other coolers that had already been filled with the remains they had found of the men attending the frat party. The rookie turned from the cooler and looked up at the house, the feeling of horror persistent, but he had no choice to go back in. He delayed however, waiting for a fellow rookie to enter first. In the living room they were trying to untangle the remains of one young man from the gaudy chandelier. Hung upside down by his intestines and from the looks of it while he was still alive. The rookie did not want to help with that. The fluids dripping down from the corpse, the smell off the intestines and the silent scream frozen on the face was... too much to ever be able to forget. He did not intend to touch that. He had already touched bodyparts, both identifiable as well as disturbingly not, to last a life time in the hour he had been working the scene. And they had only scratched the surface. Upstairs and the basement were only just about to be searched, teams forming up only now that they had some solid documentation going. As soon as his fellow rookie was called into the living room he forced his way back towards the house with grim determination. "You, come with us, we're going to the basement", one of the investigators called out. In denial he pointed to himself, his finger staining the white suit red. Perhaps he should've waited longer, the rookie thought with a sigh as the investigator called at him to hurry.
The investigator was angry, a cigarette stuck between his lips to drown out some of the overwhelming smell of carnage inside the house. She didn't want to got to the basement, stuff like that always creeped her out. Her colleague had pulled seniority on her however and so she was send down to the dark bowels of the frat house. Passing as he was still waiting to be able to get past the first corpse, she gave him the finger and a glare, before moving on. Making her way carefully, she tried to sidestep as many blood and goresplatters on her way to the stairs down. There was no way to avoid all of it however and behind her she could hear one of the technicians almost slipping on something that was going to remain unnamed. Looking over her shoulder she sternly reprimanded them. "You're professionals, act like it dammit and look where you put your feet down!'
Time to follow her own advice, so she looked ahead, feeling something wet dripping on her shoulder from the banister. Not looking up she pressed on. She could burn all her clothes when she got home. In front of the stairs she took a deep breath. The plan was to go down, flood the place with light, work carefully from the back all the way up. They would probably disturb a few things, but one had to wonder at this point how much that would even matter. Flicking the switch she was surprised to find the lights were still working flooding the basement in generous light and she heaved a sigh of relief. The smell was less here and the stairs looked relatively clean, spurring her on to continue down. As soon as she reached the bottom and turned to the right the sight took away any sense of comfort the light and lack of blood had given her. A large pentagram had been scratched into the floor, candles burning at the tips. Circle smudged and disturbed by what had probably been frantic flailing of some of the girls. There were seven in total, all splayed out, eyes torn from their skulls and tongues missing. "God I hate frathouses," the investigator muttered to herself as she oversaw the crew getting to work. Her eyes falling on the word 'sacrifice' painted in large letters on the wall. "Let me know if you find the eyes and tongues", she called out with a sigh, her fingers rubbing the bridge of her nose in agitation. "Ma'am! This one is still alive!" One of her team called out, joined by another. "This one as well!"
Well there was an unexpected surprise. "Call for another ambulance and get these girls stable and up. Do not let the paramedics in here." She told one of her juniors pointing at him and back up the stairs. "Quickly."
The old investigator watched impatiently as they photographed and documented the remains below the stairs. He had wanted to step passed but was stopped and now stood impatiently. His only satisfaction was sending the woman down into the basement, a feeling merely increased when she gave him the finger. Tapping his foot impatiently he observed one of the juniors rush past him, calling in for more ambulances and mentioning how they had found two that were still alive. That was all he needed. "If there's still people alive in here I don't have time for this. I'm going up." He announced and sidestepped the corpse and made his way up the stairs. The word 'sacrifice' written along his route to the bedrooms, sticking close to the wall to not disturb the hand still stuck on the railing. The carnage upstairs followed a similar pattern of severe mutilation, leaving what identifiable young men he could make out, undeniably dead. One by one he opened the doors to the bedroom, letting in one of his teammembers as he did. Every room was painted red with blood. In the first the corpse was sitting at the desk, cut off hands on the desk holding the severed head, eyes and tongue missing. Another room with a ostentatious canopy bed, had one of the man tied between the posts in haunting blood eagle scene. Ribs fractured and rearranged, the lungs pulled out to form wings. The torn of jaw that was found earlier probably belonged to the young man here. Sounds of gagging made the investigator turn around quickly and shove the head of the man behind him into a bin, before he could throw up all over the room. Patting him on the back he continued on, opening the next door into the bathroom. The smell was horrific, fresh and tentatively he made his way up to the curtain by the bath and pulled it aside, ready to jump back should he need to. Instead he found himself stopping in his tracks. In the bath was the most beautiful young woman, her black hair dripping with blood, lips equally red. The bath was filled with the tongues and eyes, some fingers and so, so much blood. Her hauntingly light eyes looked at him, black mascara running down her cheeks. "Help me sir," her sweet voice called to him, hoarse and full of tears, and so he did. Without a thought for the blood he reached into the pool and lifted out the young woman, naked save for her underwear, and carried her out the bathroom, down the hall and down the stairs. All the way to the ambulance, while muttering words of reassurance and care.
The strong arms of the old investigator around her frame were warm and full of life. As he carried her down the hall, she observed each horrific scene in the bedrooms they passed. Her eyes fell on the hand as they made their way down, only just making out the corpse hanging by his entrails in the livingroom. The house reeked of blood and flesh and everything that would scream carnage at the experienced ones. Outside things were chaotic, frantic until she was set down in the back of an ambulance. Light flooding over her, but the sounds seemed to dim around her, as did the light, flickering softly. "I thought you would get the battery replaced!" A voice called from the front of her ambulance, shocking her out of her daze. The investigator that carried her still stood by as a nurse covered her carefully in a blanket before starting to take her vital signs. "What can you tell me love?" The old man said to her, eyes firmly fixed upon her breasts.
Pulling the blanket around her tight she looked at him, tears falling and shaking her head. "It all happened so fast. The girls wanted to try something they had read about in the basement, but my boyfriend, he... he wanted to have sex, so I followed him up the stairs..."
Her eyes looked past him, to where the house was looming. "I don't know when the screaming started. It began downstairs, my boyfriend ran to see what was wrong..." Her hand covered her mouth as her eyes grew big, thinking on the corpse below the stairs. "I tried to hide under the bed. It came into the room, dripping blood where it went, but it didn't see me. The screaming continued until all the rooms were clear. I covered my ears, closed my eyes and waited for it to pass."
The investigator was taking notes, though she gave him little to go on. The blood from her body was steadily dripping down her feet and onto the ambulance floor. "How did you get in the tub?" The old man asked, confused. And she cried, her shoulders shaking as the paramedic tried to calm her down. "I don't knoooooow..." She wailed, shoulders shaking as she covered her face with her long slender fingers, bloodred nailpolish glistening in the light. "I remember cold, black eyes like staring into death itself. Sacrifice.... Sacrifice.... Sacrifice."
The young woman kept repeating the word, her voice eerie and otherworldly as she stared at the investigator, whom was finally called back to the house to help get the remains of the last man out of the wall he seemed to have melted into. "You can rest now, let me get you something warm to drink." The paramedic told the young woman and turned around to go fetch some tea.
With a smile she stood up and dropped the blanket, now thoroughly stained with blood. Her bare feet pattered on the pavement leaving bloodstained footprints as she went. The paramedic called after her as she turned around, her black eyes falling upon the paramedic, tea still in her hand. She licked her lips and reached into the bra, pulling out a freshly pulled eye and plopped it into her mouth. Then with a puff of red mist, she disappeared.
"Here's another sir!" The call came from the house. Light flashes followed, a bag was brought and notes were made untill a green looking rookie stepped out of the house holding a bag with a torn off jaw.
