The year is 4099. Humanity has spread to the stars, sending massive colony ships across the black expanse of space toward worlds identified by distant sensors. These planets, selected long before humanity could ever reach them, may very well be dead worlds by the time the ships arrive. The light used to identify them could have taken countless years to reach Earth, and no amount of technological advancement can guarantee that a world will still be suitable for colonization when humanity finally reaches it.

To address this uncertainty, humanity developed a system of scout ships. These vessels would travel ahead of the massive colony ships, reaching their destinations long before the colonists themselves. Their mission was simple: assess the planets, determine whether they were suitable for colonization, and send a warning if they were not. If a world proved unsuitable, the colony ships could alter their course toward the next destination, while the scout continued onward to its next assigned world.

The journeys between stars were long, often spanning decades or centuries. Cryogenic stasis was the only practical means of keeping a single scout alive throughout such voyages.

In the year 4099, the scout ship Greyfalcon dropped out of its near-lightspeed journey, rousing its captain from cryogenic sleep. Captain Bjorn awoke to an alert from his ship's AI: an SOS signal had been detected nearby.

The signal was unlike anything he had encountered before. Its origin was a spacecraft unlike any he had ever seen.

With the premise out of the way, this is a sci-fi roleplay I've been working on, albeit somewhat imperfectly, for a little while.

The basic idea is that the main character, Captain Bjorn, has encountered an advanced human spacecraft carrying a single female occupant. She was sent from Earth aboard a new generation of scout ships, but the thousands of years that have passed since Bjorn's own vessel departed have left her ship far more advanced than his—and considerably smaller.

Unfortunately, her experimental warp drive has suffered a catastrophic failure, forcing her ship out of its journey far earlier than intended. Now stranded far from her intended destination, she has sent out an SOS, which brings Bjorn and the Greyfalcon into the picture.

Bjorn is a human man in his mid-thirties, originally from Scandinavia. As for his female counterpart, I'm leaving her largely up to you! I don't have any strict expectations for her character beyond the fact that she's someone willing to board a ship equipped with an experimental warp drive.

I'm happy to work with whatever character you come up with and see where the story takes us.

As for post length, I'm not particularly picky, though I'd appreciate at least two paragraphs per reply so we have something to work with and build upon.

I'll also admit that I haven't written much lately, so please bear with me as I shake off the rust!

My availability is generally best during my weekends, Sunday through Tuesday. During the rest of the week, I work a job that involves long drives, so I can't always guarantee that I'll be able to reply consistently, especially when I'm tired. I appreciate a writing partner who is understanding of that and doesn't mind a slower pace during the workweek.
