Shiptember!
One Month. Infinite Voyages.

There are a lot of different kinds of ships. Some are pretty neat and others are... meh. Whatever kind you want to write or art about is acceptable. It only has to be nautical related to this month's theme.

"The wind whispers the tale of the sea. Wind tugging the sails fiercely as the wooden boards scream out in anguish as the waves tried to topple the ship down into the great abyss. Had it not been for the roaring thunder and crushing sea one would have been able to notice the panicked screams each time a wave broke over the railing and tried to wash away those pesky little humans. To make them lost in the midnight sea. The captain keeping a brave face even though he already realised their end was near, screaming out orders left and right to the crew that desperately tried to keep standing from the toss game from the waves.

Trying to keep the boat afloat as lightning lit up the darkness above. Rain washing over them, at least that was what he thought as the waves no longer made it obvious where the water came from. Through the storm he could hear it, the beautiful singing sounds of the sirens, waiting to feast upon their flesh. Patiently waiting for a soon to be had end, He swore he could sense them underneath the waves and as the sky lit up once again their fate was here. Lightning striking down in the main mast, splitting the ship in two and hurling them all into the abyss. There was no chance to be had, no other point of fighting he thought as his eyes shut one last time. The end was here, the end..?"

As the sun rose that morning, a blood red glow filled the sky. An old man in a three piece suit looked over the railing of the ocean liner before taking a final drag from his cigarette and tossed it into the waves below.

" Red sky at night, it's a sailor's delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning... gimme a break! " He said out loud after reciting the saying his father had said so often that he swore he could say it with a mouthful of marbles, in his sleep, and two miles under the sea.

It was too beautiful out for a storm. The waves were calm, the wind was barely there, the skies were clear. He shook his head at how his father could be suckered by such a pointless saying that meant nothing.

Two hours later, that old man was in a lifeboat. The waves had turned unruly, the lifeboat was knocked so violently as he held on for dear life that even other passengers had all latched onto one another in an attempt to keep the boat steady.

The lightning lit up darkened skies, the thunder roared with a vengeance, and rain fell so hard that between it and the salty waves seeing had been near impossible. Even the screams were dulled.

That ocean liner was gone, beaten and battered by wave after wave until it finally capsized and sank with barely time to escape.

If he survived, he'd never say it again.

Except for the sound of the waves crashing against the ships hull, and the creaking of complaining wood, a quiet almost inaudible humming could be heard. Then suddenly a hoarse male voice said:
β€œCan you sing for us, girl?”
The young girl startled and looked around on all the barely visible faces in the almost pitch darkness. They were only slightly visible now and then thanks to the small oil lamp dangling from the ceiling, inside the storage space below deck. A space usually used for shipping desirable and precious things. None living things. Now it was used for them, a handful of captured people, who traveled unaware of the ship's destination, across the endless sea.
β€œI only know children's songs”, the girl whispered, more afraid than shy.
β€œPlease sing anything”, someone else pleaded.
She cleared her throat, realising her earlier humming had not only calmed her little brother but even the grown ups. So the girl sang, a soft lullaby of home and a mothers safe embrace and love. And as the waves rocked and tossed the ship in the storm outside, a few souls onboard the ship, found a tiny piece of comfort in the darkness below the ship's deck.

Swashbuckling sailors savoring the last of their rum,
A ramshackle ruse rousing the mariner,
And merrily may the mass persuade the helm.

Heavy handed with drunken ardor do the sailors shift and sway in the sea,
On a ship cut and woven, bent to to carve the way,
The Great Marianna - the last of her kind.

The calm waters carry heavenly tunes, a fine-tuned lure,
One so perfectly crafted the sailors swooned,
They followed, for they did not heed.

Not of the rocky waves, nor the light that split the sky and blocked the stars,
They were set in their way,
And The Great Marianna met her fate as her bow met stack.

Started with the goal of alliteration, but this was supposed to be fun and I was very quickly NOT having fun with that self imposed restriction xD

The Marabelle and her crew rocked restlessly on the unrelenting sea. It'd been two weeks on open water, but two days of watching the storm close in.

With a crack of lightning, the crew began skittering about like ants in a rainstorm.

Six in the crew. All shouting as the slow falling raindrops turned angry; ricocheting off every surface.
Carter.
Morgan.
Collins.
Forster.
Anderson.
Reynolds.

The boat was small and her crew tired. No one had slept during the past week. Though none spoke of it, each time they laid down their heads a static in the air whined against their eardrums. If they did sleep, they woke feeling anxious, jaws sore as though they'd been clenching their teeth all night.

Into the next day the storm raged and the five ran about securing ropes, battening down loose equipment and ensuring that they did all they could to keep their vessel upright.
Carter.
Morgan.
Forster.
Anderson.
Reynolds.

Black waves rose above the horizon and threatened to slam over their small boat and drown the four of them. But for another day they all held fast.
Carter.
Morgan.
Forster.
Anderson.

None of the three had noticed the next day pass, only feeling relief as the sea calmed. Hours of darkness stretched on, but none of them could sleep.
Carter.
Forster.
Anderson.

The two crewmates were beyond sleep; the whirring painful at the base of their skulls.
Forster looked at Anderson.
"I've got a headache..." Forster groaned, almost unable to hold his own head up.
"When was the last time you ate?" responded a bodiless voice.
Anderson smiled and Forster could see pieces of skin stuck between his teeth.
