My first Request thread on Inner Sanctum! I'll clean up as needed.
Hello!
I'm very new here I just joined the morning I am writing this, though I am not new to RP.
Forgive me if I'm ignorant about proper etiquette on this site, or how things are usually done. I'm still exploring here.
Me- Male, 49, US Central Time Zone. So, yeah, I'm old but not senile...
General interests- Art, History, Philosophy, Literature. If I could just spend all my time reading interesting shit, I'd die a very happy man.
I used to RP a lot, going back many years to Usenet groups in the early 1990's, then on Second Life 2007-2013ish. I'm very happy to have found some nice forums for para-style RP. I'm likely to be a bit rusty but once it starts flowing...
I put a premium on description and the skillful use of language (grammar/spelling, etc) over everything else. I think that an RP of simply eating breakfast can be enormously compelling if done right. I do put a lot into my writing and I like RP partners that respect the form enough to do the same.
Third person, past tense or present is fine. Both have advantages, but consistency of tense is most important.
Most of my RP has been in a more contemporary, non-speculative vein, but I'm certainly open to any fantasy/sci-fi scenarios that are really interesting. I could REALLY get into the right scenario. Talk me into it!
Fandom stuff would be hard for me as I'm not familiar with most of the source material I see mentioned (note above- old).
I love well-crafted smut, but it's so much more powerful with a lot of build-up, within an interesting plot. I can very much appreciate an RP that may not become explicitly sexual for weeks, or months even, letting the tension build between the characters. It just makes it so... intense... when it does finally go there.
I most prefer scenarios where there is some kind on inherent power imbalance between the players (I most enjoy being in the male "more powerful" or "responsible" role), but circumstances, or desires, eventually lead to a corrupting of the situation, where the characters know things are getting inappropriate or out of hand. Both may struggle with the guilt or shame of it, but boundaries do end up being crossed and convoluted.
A few scenarios that have been pinging around in my head-
*********
A college writing professor, 40's and married, has a favorite student, they have been working together closely on her senior project, they genuinely get along. Her writing has a strongly erotic component (it's a fictional story about a prostitute), other professors have told her she needs to tone down the sex, but he's always encouraged her to explore her darker feelings in her writing. She needs money, and decides (without telling him, that would be embarrassing) that it would be great "research" to work as a cam girl. He is cruising through a cam site and recognizes her. She is new and somewhat shy, and he starts encouraging her to do more interesting things on camera. With his ideas and encouragement, her base of fans quickly grows. She becomes conflicted about her desires- she loves the attention she's getting as a cam girl, and the money, but it's all taking on a life of it's own, especially that one client whose ideas are so… interesting. She realizes it's no longer just a research project for her. He's conflicted, because it turns him on so much to manipulate her like this and he sees that she's starting to lose herself in performing for him and everyone else, but he feels crushing guilt about it. Eventually, he makes a crucial mistake and gives away the game- and then things get really complicated.
*********
He lived in a house with his wife and their son, the neighbors had a daughter about the same age. It was clear that the domestic life of the couple next door was pretty chaotic, and they would invite her over, just for snacks, or to watch TV. She was always so shy, and quiet, but eventually she learned to relax and have some fun when she visited. They lived next door to each other for eight years, from when the girl was 5 until she was 13. The son and daughter got into very different social cliques so they were never close friends, but the man and his wife still did what they could just to provide her with a bit of comfort and safety.
Eventually the neighbors move away. Nine years later, the son moved away to college, the man and his wife have drifted apart and divorced. He works late one night in his office (a large bank, in a downtown high-rise), and on the way to his car, he nearly trips over a homeless girl in the parking garage. He recognizes her, asks if she needs help, she barely responds. Not sure that this is really the right thing to do, he helps her to her feet, and she's just barely lucid enough to make it into his car. He brings her home.
*******
A father (divorced) is in a horrible car accident and gets severe burns on his hands, they must be kept wrapped in gauze for a few weeks as they heal. He's not wealthy, he can't afford to stay in the hospital to recuperate, but with his injuries he can't take care of himself. His daughter, 24, just graduated from college and looking for work, agrees to move back home to help him out. The doctors help coach her on what she's going to need to do to help treat his hands, and there is an awkward conversation about how much help he really is going to need- being driven to appointments, fed, clothed, and… bathed. He can't get his hands wet. He also can't masturbate, and without any release, his pent-up sexual desire becomes more and more of a problem…
*******
A married therapist gets a new patient- a very pretty young woman with a very troubling sexual history. It takes a while for her to open up about what happened to her, he has to gently poke and prod at her so he can understand how to help her. Over time, she drops hints, reveals small details, cries, tells him more… He knows it's wrong, but he finds himself getting more and more excited in anticipation of their sessions, and aroused during them. Is he really trying to help her therapeutically, or is he just getting off on it? It can be both, he tries to convince himself. He blocks the session time after her each week, so he can jack off in his office, to relieve the tension. Sometimes he wonders, as there are odd elements to her stories- is she really telling the truth, or is she deliberately toying with his desire and discomfort? Who is leading who? Does he even care?
*******
All of these are basic variations on the dynamic I summarized above but in NO WAY are the only type of RP's I can get into. It's all about literary chemistry, I feel.
Thanks for reading!
