Just a tad unconventional
Good day all, I know I'm awfully new here but I'm eager to get into some RP. I've got a few ideas however I'd like to see what other people think about them. Any constructive criticism or points you feel might make the plot/setting/explanation better are welcome, however please don't take that as a chance to completely overwrite it.
This will be a general outline of the plot and setting, I'll then work a bit more on it after some feedback before properly posting any Application thread or character sheets.

The world is in it's darkest time. Nightmarish creatures that would only be seen in stories have plagued the world for the past 5 years. They came seemingly out of nowhere, but appeared everywhere. Cities fell in weeks, countries in months, the world within a year. The armies of the world were defeated easily, conventional weapons seeming to have little effect on most of the monsters, they meerly bought time.
Vampires, Werewolves, Ghouls, monsters of all kinds appeared and wrecked havoc wherever they went. But these were not all mindless, they had direction, organisation, a form of hierarchy that made them effective.
As many began to accept their fate, others banded together, a few remaining cities and towns were turned into the last bastions of humanity, defended by walls of great height and weapons of great calibre. Special teams designated "Pathfinders" were assembled and set out into the ravaged lands to gather supplies, eliminate bandit threats and find any potential way of stopping the hordes of darkness.
One team of Pathfinders came across an underground facility, filled with huge stockpiles of strange crystals. Upon one of the team picking one up and crushing it in their hand, the crystal formed into a weapon and upon being released would turn back into the gem. When another tried this, the crystal turned into a different weapon. The team gathered as many as they could carry and returned to the city to report their findings.
On their way back, they encountered a group of ghouls, when the ghouls were struck with these crystal weapons, it was found to kill them almost instantly, causing them to burn into ash after being felled. Finally, a solution to the problem of how to kill the monsters had been discovered.
A few months later, all of the crystals were moved back to the city and studied, their properties further being explored. A way to crush them down and add them to normal bullets was found, meaning that normal weapons could also be effective if slightly less so.
Now, the City is on the eve of a large scale operation. Preparations for a counter-attack are being formalised, but a lot more work is still needed to be done. Hundreds of people have been drafted into an Army, those showing aptitude for more specialised work becoming Pathfinders.
This is the story of one of the newest squads of recruits to join the Pathfinder unit, their name being, ShadowFall.

So, a few things I should mention about this:
- The crystal weapons are only effective against monsters, not normal human beings. For that, you'll have to use normal forms of combat.
- Vampires are faster and stronger than the average human and cannot be in direct sunlight for long unless they have drunk a large amount of blood before doing so, this should give them a few hours protection. They can also regenerate when drinking blood, more blood means more health back!
- Werewolves are constantly in their wolf form, with only a few exceptions to this as doing so requires a special form of binding to their humanity. They have heightened senses as well as physical abilities.
- Other forms of monsters will appear, they will be explained and described as to not throw people in the deep end and end up dead. I am open to suggestions if you've got any ideas, the list so far is just a taste.
- Crystal weapons change form to fit the user, you could say it's dependant on their personality, however they will only ever form into melee weapons. They can be crushed down into crystal rounds for normal weapons, however they are only about as half as effective. 1 crystal equals about 800 rounds, but their is a limited supply!
- Specially sentient and high rank monsters have been known to leave behind a crystal when they are killed using a crystal weapon, this is how more can be acquired.
- The era of technology will be 1940's/50's, think about end of WW2, so SMG's, Bolt-Action rifles, MG's and all that good stuff. Of course due to the situation, not everyone's going to have a brand new M1 Carbine and you'll probably not be driving around in a Sherman tank.
- There will of course be different roles in this squad of heroes! Everyone will have to be proficient at combat, however we need medics, snipers, heavy gunners, engineers and so on. If you feel like you want to add any special skills then please let me know.
- There will be natural limits to what you can carry on your person. Medics will have more Medical supplies than the average soldier. Heavy weapons will carry AT launchers or MG's and Ammo. Nobody can carry 3 rifles and then still sprint for miles. Their is also a limit to your ammo and other equipment, be sensible with your gear.
- Everyone will have a crystal weapon which will weigh almost nothing in its crystal form but will have weight to it when conjured, if you want it always in weapon form in a holster then that's fine, but be aware you'll be carrying that extra weight.
- The country to Galia where this is set is about the same size as what Germany is, with the same kind of weather and topography. There has been no contact with any of the neighbouring countries for 2 years.
- The city is located towards the northern region, close to the sea. Other bastions are located all around the country and contact with them is intermittent at best, bandit groups and scavengers do live outside the cities usually in nomadic groups.
- Magic is present in the world, some creatures may use it while other cannot. Humans are in the process of researching it for different uses, most of which are hidden from the public. It isn't yet present in daily life, but the military has used it and applied it to secret projects.
-There are 6 cities left in Galia, Tyrus is where we begin, it's a garrison town which helped out because there was already a large military presence and established bases. It also has a high agricultural yield but limited heavy industry.
- The capital of Laliat fell very quickly, it's now a main hub for the vampires. You've also got Helia, Bruhl, Govanti and Traire which were the other cities that managed to build walls and fortifications. Each had their own advantages which allowed a strong defence, with Helia being a mountainous city with natural defence, it is also the one closest to Tyrus.
- As I've already had some requests, anybody who would like to create a character with any monster traits may PM me first to discuss it. I will try my best to work it in and accommodate ideas where I can. There will obviously be limitations.
