Good day all, I know I'm awfully new here but I'm eager to get into some RP. I've got a few ideas however I'd like to see what other people think about them. Any constructive criticism or points you feel might make the plot/setting/explanation better are welcome, however please don't take that as a chance to completely overwrite it.

This will be a general outline of the plot and setting, I'll then work a bit more on it after some feedback before properly posting any Application thread or character sheets.

ShadowFall

The world is in it's darkest time. Nightmarish creatures that would only be seen in stories have plagued the world for the past 5 years. They came seemingly out of nowhere, but appeared everywhere. Cities fell in weeks, countries in months, the world within a year. The armies of the world were defeated easily, conventional weapons seeming to have little effect on most of the monsters, they meerly bought time.

Vampires, Werewolves, Ghouls, monsters of all kinds appeared and wrecked havoc wherever they went. But these were not all mindless, they had direction, organisation, a form of hierarchy that made them effective.

As many began to accept their fate, others banded together, a few remaining cities and towns were turned into the last bastions of humanity, defended by walls of great height and weapons of great calibre. Special teams designated "Pathfinders" were assembled and set out into the ravaged lands to gather supplies, eliminate bandit threats and find any potential way of stopping the hordes of darkness.

One team of Pathfinders came across an underground facility, filled with huge stockpiles of strange crystals. Upon one of the team picking one up and crushing it in their hand, the crystal formed into a weapon and upon being released would turn back into the gem. When another tried this, the crystal turned into a different weapon. The team gathered as many as they could carry and returned to the city to report their findings.

On their way back, they encountered a group of ghouls, when the ghouls were struck with these crystal weapons, it was found to kill them almost instantly, causing them to burn into ash after being felled. Finally, a solution to the problem of how to kill the monsters had been discovered.

A few months later, all of the crystals were moved back to the city and studied, their properties further being explored. A way to crush them down and add them to normal bullets was found, meaning that normal weapons could also be effective if slightly less so.

Now, the City is on the eve of a large scale operation. Preparations for a counter-attack are being formalised, but a lot more work is still needed to be done. Hundreds of people have been drafted into an Army, those showing aptitude for more specialised work becoming Pathfinders.

This is the story of one of the newest squads of recruits to join the Pathfinder unit, their name being, ShadowFall.

So, a few things I should mention about this:

- The crystal weapons are only effective against monsters, not normal human beings. For that, you'll have to use normal forms of combat.

- Vampires are faster and stronger than the average human and cannot be in direct sunlight for long unless they have drunk a large amount of blood before doing so, this should give them a few hours protection. They can also regenerate when drinking blood, more blood means more health back!

- Werewolves are constantly in their wolf form, with only a few exceptions to this as doing so requires a special form of binding to their humanity. They have heightened senses as well as physical abilities.

- Other forms of monsters will appear, they will be explained and described as to not throw people in the deep end and end up dead. I am open to suggestions if you've got any ideas, the list so far is just a taste.

- Crystal weapons change form to fit the user, you could say it's dependant on their personality, however they will only ever form into melee weapons. They can be crushed down into crystal rounds for normal weapons, however they are only about as half as effective. 1 crystal equals about 800 rounds, but their is a limited supply!

- Specially sentient and high rank monsters have been known to leave behind a crystal when they are killed using a crystal weapon, this is how more can be acquired.

- The era of technology will be 1940's/50's, think about end of WW2, so SMG's, Bolt-Action rifles, MG's and all that good stuff. Of course due to the situation, not everyone's going to have a brand new M1 Carbine and you'll probably not be driving around in a Sherman tank.

- There will of course be different roles in this squad of heroes! Everyone will have to be proficient at combat, however we need medics, snipers, heavy gunners, engineers and so on. If you feel like you want to add any special skills then please let me know.

- There will be natural limits to what you can carry on your person. Medics will have more Medical supplies than the average soldier. Heavy weapons will carry AT launchers or MG's and Ammo. Nobody can carry 3 rifles and then still sprint for miles. Their is also a limit to your ammo and other equipment, be sensible with your gear.

- Everyone will have a crystal weapon which will weigh almost nothing in its crystal form but will have weight to it when conjured, if you want it always in weapon form in a holster then that's fine, but be aware you'll be carrying that extra weight.

- The country to Galia where this is set is about the same size as what Germany is, with the same kind of weather and topography. There has been no contact with any of the neighbouring countries for 2 years.

- The city is located towards the northern region, close to the sea. Other bastions are located all around the country and contact with them is intermittent at best, bandit groups and scavengers do live outside the cities usually in nomadic groups.

- Magic is present in the world, some creatures may use it while other cannot. Humans are in the process of researching it for different uses, most of which are hidden from the public. It isn't yet present in daily life, but the military has used it and applied it to secret projects.

-There are 6 cities left in Galia, Tyrus is where we begin, it's a garrison town which helped out because there was already a large military presence and established bases. It also has a high agricultural yield but limited heavy industry.

- The capital of Laliat fell very quickly, it's now a main hub for the vampires. You've also got Helia, Bruhl, Govanti and Traire which were the other cities that managed to build walls and fortifications. Each had their own advantages which allowed a strong defence, with Helia being a mountainous city with natural defence, it is also the one closest to Tyrus.

- As I've already had some requests, anybody who would like to create a character with any monster traits may PM me first to discuss it. I will try my best to work it in and accommodate ideas where I can. There will obviously be limitations.

Sorry guys, I've been away for a tad, but I'm glad to see this has perked some interest while I was away! I'll work on some final details such as an application/character sheet and a bit of an opening and hopefully have something up by Wednesday.

Character Application layout is below, if you want anymore guidance on anything asked then please do!

There might be a limit of what people can have, for example we can't have a whole teams of snipers. And not everyone can carry an MG, try to be realistic. The other gear section is for anything special you might want like personal effects or helpful smaller items, everyone will get the standard gear of food, water, backpacks and so on.

This strikes my fancy! Thinking I'll revamp an old character to fit...

Name: Pyra (aka Ember Lee Hunde)
Age: 24
Gender: female
Appearance: 5'8" tall, 134 lbs, curvy figure, jet black hair with gold streaks, dark blue eyes, wears steel-toed combat boots, jeans, turtleneck and a light vest are her usual go-tos, wears light makeup daily
Role: Medic. Wants to be heavy gunner but was denied that role due to her destructive tendencies.
Crystal weapon: shield
Normal weapon(s): crossbow
Any other gear: lots of bandages, salves, etc. medical supplies
Any other Skills: running really fast, speaking really fast, lots of spicy sarcasm and witty remarks, setting things on fire

I'm happy to accept those, but for your crystal weapons, they can only be melee weapons, no guns! If you could alter that please that'd be spot on.

Also the medic probably wouldn't carry a bazooka, that'd be the Heavy weapons or Demolitions expert, which you can have you character be if you want, especially with their destructive tendencies!

As for your sniper, something of this era would be like the Springfield, Kar98, or the Mosin-Nagant, all bold action sniper rifles if any of those sound good to you!

There we go! Me brain being glitchy, pardon the error. :3

The point with her being forbidden from doing heavy/demo is that she becomes too destructive and careless with her weapons, possibly harming comrade as well as enemies. That's why she is a medic now, and it is a constant source of frustration for her.

Name: Archer (Full name: Johnathan Archer Silver)

Age: 26

Gender: Male

Appearance: 5'11" tall with blonde hair and blue eyes. A well built young man with a well spoken accent, he's always dressed in his green military fatigues sporting the Pathfinder emblem on the shoulders, with his dog tags around his neck. He wears a lighter set of black boots which are a lot more breathable and has a lightweight assault vest when on patrol, he keeps a bandolier for his shotgun shells around his waist. He never wears a helmet as they're too clunky, but may sometimes wear a field hat with his rank on the back.

Role (eg, Medic, Sniper): CQC Shock-trooper

Crystal weapon (Type and appearance): One-handed longsword. Black with a golden trim around the blade and lines through the hilt guard.

Normal weapon(s): M1A1 Thompson SMG with 2x dot scope and fore grip and extended bar mag.
Shortened Winchester 12G pump action shotgun with quick load port and holster.

Any other gear: MKIII KBar knife (Chest holstered), Map pack, camo-poncho, flashlight, matches, 2x smoke grenades, 3x stick flares, silencer, SCR-536 radio and a notebook and pen (Backpacked).

Any other Skills: Though it may come as a surprise to some, Archer is actually very well educated, with a degree in ecology. His knowledge of animals, plants and the ecosystem is vast which compliments his well honed survival skills, a skill bestowed upon him by his father from many camping sessions and volunteer service in the Home guard during the war.

He has a range of basic military skills such as Navigation, First aid, field craft, Comms procedure and urban combat through his years in the Home Guard to a proficient standard and beyond in some areas.

He is also very proficient in unarmed combat, taking up Krav-maga in his free time, making him just as dangerous without a weapon.

Backstory: Archer used to live in a small coastal town along the north coast of Galia, he spent all of his life there before moving to the city to study at University. It was there when the apocalypse occurred and the creatures invaded the world. He attempted to return to his hometown but was attacked by a group of ghouls on his way there, he only made it back thanks to a squad of soldiers. It was after this that he decided to join the Home guard and assist in whatever way he could. He was sidelined to help build the walls of the city and then ended up guarding it for a few years, never knowing the fate of his family back home. When he heard of the Pathfinders, he was eager to join the unit.

Gender: Female

Appearance: 5'10" Red hair, green eyes. Curvy hourglass figure.

Crystal weapon: Chain Whip with barbs down the length of it and a karambit at the end

Normal weapon(s): AKM assault rifle, bullwhip, throwing knives .45 Colt Revolver. Her boots have retractable daggers that with a button on the heel come out from the toecap of the boot.

Any other gear: Her dog , Dante who can assist in carrying a few things as well as be a viable weapon/distraction when combat is required. Rope, flint fire starter, lighter, Swiss army knife, duct tape, compass, poncho.

Any other Skills: Stealth, a larcenist, MMA, basic survival skills.

Backstory: Darby isn't one for small talk so not many know her backstory. She lost both her parents while in middle school and though her grandmother took her in she was too elderly to keep her in line. She was a bit of a rebellious child that spent most of her time on the streets with a questionable crowd rather than at home. But surprisingly, she did enjoy school and finished with high marks. She wanted to go off to college but things took a different turn. One that she rarely speaks of and is the reason she joined The Pathfinders in the first place. Something she did mostly because she'd prefer to be on the side of the living and serve some purpose; and serving a vital role made her feel untouchable. Not to mention she'd rather be useful than someone simply hiding behind tall walls hoping they held while others protected her. She has no problem with looking danger in the face and rather enjoys being in the line of fire so being somewhere in the middle of it all doesn't phase her. Besides, if there's any chance for this world to survive people are going to have to step up, not everyone can afford to hide behind a wall. In her opinion the wall is only a temporary fix, the threat seems to be growing and hiding isn't going to make it go away.

But upon an unfortunate series of events saw those dreams dashed and divided like a million stars in the night sky that I wished on over and over again, sparkling and broken.
But I didn't really mind because I knew that it takes getting everything you ever wanted, and then losing it to know what true freedom is.

Sounds good, as long as the limits of the dog a kept within reason, eg, it can't rip peoples throats out instantly and carry large weapons, but I imagine it's capacity will depend on its size, from the image I'm guessing some ammo and basic gear would be reasonable.

Of course! That's a given, it'll definitely be on a realistic scale.

Gender: Male

Appearance:
Short dark blond hair thats sporting greys, slightly unshaven with the most unsettling grey eyes. Deep scars dot his face, a number along his hands and arms. Standing at 6.2, broad shoulders and a well toned and muscular build. Dressed in cargo pants with reinforced areas to reduce the sound of movement, water proof and kitted with a pistol holster at his leg. Around his neck is a pair of tag, etched on one of them is a symbol thats rarer than peace. His clothes consist of that for someone who is crazy enough to brave the darkest of nights but not to reveal, A long sleeved jacket with a turtle neck jumper and a hat that doubles as a balaclava, tactical webbing a large trench knight and a secondary pistol with crystal rounds.

In the typical for night fighting, its clear how this man is by nature not one you'd want to be on the opposing side of.
Role: Specialist - Recon
Crystal weapon: Greatsword, a large what some could deep cumbersome and yet for a long bladed weapon it serves its purpose well. A black sheel down the center, with a second grip above the guard for additional stability. Not what one would expect for someone who prefers to fight under the moonlight.

Normal weapon(s):
1x DeLisle Carbine - Modified with a tactical non-reflective tactical scope, caliber increase to .45, modified bolt action to reduce further noise during chambering and an ejection bag.
- 8x Clips in two pouches, 4 with crystal rounds, 1x AP 3 x Standard + 1 in the rifle.

STEN Mark VI - Supressed
- Modified - Three Round Burst, Full Auto option - overhauled internals and hardenned materials creating a matt black steel finish and reduce warping and jamming due to overheating.
Fast Eject system - lighter foldable stock, drum clip

Any other gear:
neck guard and padded segmented plates sewn into a jacket - stab and slash resistant.
experimental injection for his eyes - the injection induces a brief 20 - 3 hour period of enhanced night vision.

Any other Skills:
Close quater specialist, was going to be a formal instructor.
Medically trained to stabilize until others can provide further medical care.
Demolitions trained with direction High Explosives as well as radio / telecommunication skills.

Backstory:
He isnt a pathfinder but was one of the few of the first wave to fight the fight. Anyone who is in their 'early twirlies' known as twenties, he sees them still as kids in such a game of horrors. Mature enough to not be a brooding batman in the corner lamenting on their woes in life. You could say in such a time of chaos he was one of the few of the first who actually survived and wether he came out unscathed or not, is anyones guess. For someone who sleeps when theres time to, to kicking up to getting the mission done - Bucket as some refer to him is one of the scouts who now refuses to train any newer recruits deeming some to either be cocky, overconfident or reckless.

Quiet where theres new recruits and an observer over a talker. For those who don't show respect he neither has time for, if he's placed under someone who he doesnt trust he tends to do his own thing. The last person who assumed they knew more than he did ended up learning the hardway. Maybe it was the death of his orginal team that has him messed up. Its only recently that he's bothered to work along side pathfinders. Refering to them simply as 'cubs' than anything else. Its Buckets disregard for others now mainly due to the dissapointments he's had to deal with its a wonder that he still enjoys working alone and doing the rounds.

Accepted, a great level in detail in this which is amazing to see, however I'm not sure the liquid Kevlar would suit with the era we're trying to fit into, if you can come up with an alternative I'd consider that. I'm willing to agree to the eye drops because it's nice for everyone to have a certain unique ace card as it were.

Another thing to keep in mind is all these special attachments would be hard to maintain and there's obviously going to be a very limited supply of these eye drops.
