Hello! I hope everyone reading this is having a wonderful holiday season! So lately I have been craving an old story of mine. This story has a lot of political elements around it which is meant to challenge my writing skills to be better equipped for such scenes. This would be a slow burn, enemy to lovers along with a political love story. (At first, it would be two people marrying for political / obligation reasons but it slowly turns into an actual romance.) This story revolves around the twin Lucia. Of course, I would play her sister further into the story at some point, but for most of it you will only see Lucia and she will be the focus character of the two.

Here is a quick description of Levina that will be relevant to the story.

Levina is a celestial kingdom known for its wealth, celestial magic users, and pristine society. The kingdom itself was one of the largest in the world, holding hundreds of thousands of people, possibly more. It was a slice of heaven on earth; the people born of celestial powers lived within the kingdom, the majority of them born with silver, blonde, or other light colors of hair and fair skin and developed angelic wings throughout their childhood. Some developed types of light magic, while others developed what is called Lunar magic, given from the heavens. People born in the kingdom looked at other kingdoms and those not of celestial descent to be wicked or lesser of a person.

Summary of the story I'm looking for!
After being exiled from her kingdom, Lucia was sent to live as a noblewoman amongst common people in a new kingdom named Celadon. The queen and king are ruthless rulers, hurting the peasantry of the kingdom and in doing so have started to ruin the noble ranks as well. Celadon has a council for the king and queen to listen to, the council is made of seven houses that the people vote on to take the seats till that family line no longer exists. Recently the opportunity for Lucia to take her place amongst the council came up when Lord (Your character's father's last name here) passed away with no heir to give his seat to. Many including Lucia stepped forward to claim that seat unaware of the stipulations or that the heir to that seat would come upon hearing his father's death, to steal the seat from whom the people voted in. However, both Lucia and the prior's son have found a new problem. For one to keep the seat, they must be wed, so that an heir(s) can be made to ensure there is no need to vote in another family. With the son not having a wife, and Lucia desperate for the chair to carry out her plans for the kingdom she lives in and the one that betrayed her, she offers herself to be his wife and for them to work together. He has the right to the seat, but she has the people's hearts. A perfect fit.

Ten Years Ago

"What do you mean I must leave?!" Lucia's voice echoed around the throne room, her tone full of shock, horror even, and the slightest hint of slowly building rage.

"You and your sister are women now, no longer girls. You must both now live the life you were destined to live." The Queen spoke with a gentle yet stern voice, one Lucia knew was reserved for sensitive topics they were afraid of upsetting her with.
Selestia gave a simple nod of her head, her face going pale at the mention of her sister having to leave but her fate was still up in the air. Lucia was always disgusted by how much shit her sister always took from their parents, their little angel never once standing up for what she believed. She had always been the kind to do as their mother and father told her to do, act, and think as they did, though Lucia was much different, she had always tried to rebel against her parents, though it never worked. She remembered the weeks on end she was locked in her room at a time before being allowed outside of it. Locked away like an animal they didn't want around but had to care for.

"So what am I supposed to do? You lock me away in my room most of my childhood, teach me nothing of ruling little-own how to live my own life without the use of servants or guards, and expect me to live amongst our people. They will know who I a-"

"Silence!" Her Father's voice yelled out. There was a long moment of silence between the family before he spoke again. "It has already been decided. Selestia will stay to rule in our favor and you will leave. You will not live amongst our people you will need to find a new kingdom to start in. A new way of life. I will allow you to design your guard's new armor along with your horse's armor before you leave. You will be given a good amount of gold to start fresh as a noblewoman elsewhere. Though if you continue to open your mouth and disrespect me and your mother, you will be given nothing more than a horse without armor and escorted out of my kingdom. Is that understood?" He was fuming with anger as he spoke, his words cold and callous as though the man had no love for his own daughter.

Lucia's sister was shocked, looking at her with tears in her eyes as this decision was made though she didn't speak up for her sister, and Lucia knew she wouldn't. Lucia's own horror was evident on her face as she had a pure look of shock, her fair skin now pales with dread and fear, though her ears were a bright red from holding back the anger boiling inside of her. It was her turn now to shut her mouth and take the harsh judgment of her father. "Yes, Father..." She bowed her head as she bowed.

"You will not refer to us as Father and Mother no more. You will refer to us as your King and Queen." He states in a low growl. The Queen grimaced at his words unable to meet Lucia's gaze. "Now leave to your chamber, you will leave at nightfall tomorrow."

The next day had brought forth many telling events. Lucia had found out that the guards being sent away with her were not some of her father's priced guards but rather men who were taken from the dungeons for breaking the law. They were told they would be given a second chance at life if they accompanied Lucia on her journey where ever she might leave. The only stipulation wasn't that they stay by her side regardless of the situation, but rather that they never return to Levina. She had made it a point to make their armor black and gold with orange accents. To feel more confident in herself rather than what he parents wanted her to dress as she had even gone as far as having a new personal wardrobe made and packed away for her travels. Though one outfit, in particular, she had them leave out for her departure. She had slipped out of her glowing silvery dress that seemingly illuminated the night and into one much more her style. A long black dress with a slit up the side, jewels covering her neck, wrist, and hair. A sheer black mask was placed over her face. It was a sign of darkness to her parents, and that is exactly what she wanted.

In the darkness of nightfall, she met with her parents and the newly armored 'guards' that she would be traveling with. A gentle smile graced her lips as she met the eyes of her guards hoping to sway them to stay with her with charm. Most of them still seemed disgusted with the thought of serving a royal that had wasted years of their life in a cold dungeon but that would soon change for most of them. As she mounted her horse she would nod to the guards to do the same, each of them mounting onto what the kingdom would have deemed undesirable horses, the ones that were black or dark in color. She would finally meet the eyes of her parents who seemed enraged by her appearance and choice of colors for the armor. "Mother, Father." She greeted leading the horse towards them and turning it to the side so she would not be facing them as she spoke but rather looking to her side.

"We are your King and Queen, not your parent demon." The King spat.

"Oh, so that is what you have thought me to be during my childhood. That would make much sense as to how you are treated. Regardless like it or not you are my parents, and that girl who sits peering out her window at this horror you are doing is my twin sister. We are family." She would give them a cocky grin from under the sheer mask and giggle a bit. "And even if I was blessed with different parents... You are not my King and Queen, remember? You are banning us from your kingdom." Her own guards seemed surprised at the whole conversation that was happening. "I was meant to rule, so appreciate you setting this little bird free. It will come back to burn your kingdom to the ground. Mark my words." She would give the horse a stern kick to the side and off the group would ride.

Current Day

Today was an important day for Lucia and her whole house. They had been working for ten years to gain and maintain her nobility in the new land, which was something they had managed to do rather well. It hadn't even taken her a month to go from rags to riches, an old fallen nobles house near the castle had been for sale for months and she easily acquired it. Then there was the problem with money that would last a while but not forever so they had to find some sort of business that would help them stay in the ranks of nobility. The last law to pass had made it impossible for merchants to make a living, and while she knew that would be a problem, she had added it to her list of things to fix and instead invested all of her remaining assets into ships, specifically a fleet of ships, and hired the men from the poorest families eager to make a living to feed their wives and children or vice versa.

Seemingly over the first two years of her settling down, she had gotten half of the peasantry on her side. Even the middle-class people were coming to know her and like her by year five, though over the course of the last five years had been when she really started to become popular amongst the people. Some even said they wished she ruled instead of the king and queen. A flattering but dangerous thing for the people to say, not only for themselves but for her, she had made a nice ripple effect in the lower classes, her plans moving along swiftly, but she was far from taking over the kingdom for her own, which was her long term goal. She always believed she was meant to rule and many of her following believed it as well, but her time for that was not here. Patience was key.

"Tonight is going to be wonderful for you Lucia we just know it!" One of her handmaidens said, four other girls nodded as they fixed her hair and her dress, and adorn her with her jewels.

Lucia couldn't help but smile, a small giggle escaping her lips emerald eyes peering at the woman who spoke through the mirror. "I know it will," she states, a confident and cocky smirk now replacing the soft smile. "Honestly I couldn't have ever done all this without all of you. Your continuous support and help mean the world to me. I only hope that if I get this seat I can do all who have been wronged, by this corrupt court of royals and nobles alike, justice." Her voice was that of a proper royal woman which only gave the illusion that she was fit to rule.

"Lucia you know as well as the rest of us you should be the one ruling over Celadon. Not the foolish royals wh-"

"Shh shh shh." She says letting her gaze flutter down to her bracelets as she shushed the woman before snapping her gaze back up at the mirror to meet the maiden's own. "I've told you before to watch your tongue, your words are flattering and might hold truth but we are playing a dangerous game girls. You never know who might hear and where their loyalties actually lie." She would have a stern tone but a gentle, reassuring smile would accompany it so as not to scare the woman.

The handmaiden frowned but would nod her head in agreeance. "Yes, my lady. I know. Please forgive me and my mindless tongue." She smiles back at Lucia before giving her a small curtsy. "I still have work to do as do the other girls, but we will all be eager to hear the verdict when you return to us, my lady."

"All is forgiven from me, my dear, and yes please do go about your chores and whatnot, I can handle everything from here," she says the last part to address all of them, the only thing left was her earrings something she would do herself. "I'll make sure you all are the firs-" She catches her mistake and quickly repeats her words. "I'll make sure you all know the verdict before morning." If she was to climb the ranking she couldn't make promises unless she was absolutely sure she could keep them, the more promises she broke the worse she would seem to those supporting her, even if it was something as minuscule as being the first to know information.

All the handmaidens would do a small curtsy before leaving the room. Lucia would let out a deep breath of relief and slouch her posture a bit. She was nervous despite her cocky and confident attitude, there were always problems that seemed to pop up and she expect this much tonight, though there were always ways around the past problems. A knock on the door would be heard before it cracked open just slightly. "Come in." She called over her shoulder, eyes peering into the mirror as she placed the emerald earrings in her ears, they made her matching emerald gaze pop against the dark hair and black dress.

"There she is. Our next queen with the heart of gold!" The man exclaimed as he shut the door behind him and came up behind her. Arms wrapping around her waist.

"How many times do I need to tell you all that if you keep saying things like that I can't promise your safety or my own? Not from the king and queen's vengeful and jealous wrath." She snapped at him which only got a mere sigh from him.

"You worry too much Lucia. I lead your guards, I know their strengths and weaknesses like the back of my hand and we are prepared for such things." He whispers in her ear pulling her body into his before she pulled free pacing over towards the window.

Lucia was stunning in her outfit, the black dress complimenting her black hair which hung in a loose braid over her left shoulder, shorter strands of hair draped on either side of her face to add depth and frame her face, the emerald accents in her jewelry making her eyes shine against the darkness like a lost emerald at sea. There was a tight gold collar around her neck with thin strands of beads going over her shoulder, each shoulder holding what looked like golden wings with black material hanging around her arms flaring out at the bottom, the edges seemingly glowing with fire that gave off small flecks of embers when she moved. The thinly strapped black dress with a low v-neck showed off just enough skin and clung to her curves as if it was made for her. There was a long slit up the dress that stopped halfway up her thigh that would give glimpses of her legs when she walked, even the dress had fire accents to show her powers which she made no attempt to hide. When she walked embers would fall behind her in the form of fiery butterflies. In her hair was gold jewelry to make the gold accents that accompanied her dress, part of said jewelry went across her forehead, with an emerald in the middle. She had yet to put on her black veil, a symbol she had kept since leaving.

"You think the small amount of manpower I have is enough to fight off the loyalist and their royal army? You forget I am no longer a princess but a noblewoman of the kingdom Celadon, who is going for a seat within the kingdom's royal council. Please do not place me in a category I am no longer in, and have yet to acquire." She states with a stern voice.

Adon would venture over to her dresser and pick up a crown she often times wears in her own privacy, it was the crown of a princess she had stolen from Levina. A reminder of what she could have had, and what she still wanted. He walked up to her, hiding it behind his back and when he pulled her to face him he would carefully place it on his head. "You will be, and tell me why I shouldn't treat you like the queen you are? Perhaps not in public, but in the privacy of your own home you should have that freedom, my lady." He would pause to admire her in the crown. "You will get your revenge and your throne. The crown suits you too well for you not to get it, this is just one stepping stone to your throne. You are stronger cause you had to carve your own path, your sister was given it."

Throne Room

"It's as simple as showing up, stating your name, and they will do the rest. They will ask who in the audience wishes to support your council, with as many people as we have shown up, I don't think anyone else has a chance, my lady." Adon whispers in her ear as they approach the throne room.

"Thank you for council. I truly hope that a few showed up for this." She was scared to expect anything more than ten people. Having favor with the people was one thing, but those people actually showing up to voice their opinions was always an iffy thing given the king and queen's wrath.

Without another word, she would enter the throne room as the large doors opened. She was stopped dead in her tracks when she saw how many people had attended. She had thought ten was pushing it though that seemed to just be the minimum, there were at least fifty to sixty people crowded like sardines in the courtroom, faces she recognized and others she didn't. There was a special place for those wishing to take the seat, in which four others were standing, Adon had led her to a spot next to them, three of them men, while the other opponent was a woman. A courtesy nod of her head in greeting and a smile were given to each of them before taking her place at the end of the line.

After a few minutes, they would start, the first to go was the woman, who stated her name and reason for volunteering herself for the chair. When they asked who supported her there were only four or five I's in the room. She seemed disappointed but quickly replaced it with a grateful smile and stepped back into the line. The next three were even more unimpressive than the woman. They only got two of three I's from the crowd and their reasonings were selfish or basic leaving room for the imagination to wonder about their true intent. When it came to her turn she felt her body tense. She had never been allowed to speak inside the throne room for any sort of political matter. So this was a dream come true and a nightmare. She had practiced for hours the day before and even that morning but her mind was drawing a blank. A light shove forward from Adon would get her to step forward and begin her speech.

"Good evening. My name is Lucia Nox. I am the forgotten princess of Levina, one of the world's greatest kingdoms. I came here as a refuge from the treasonist actions of my own parents who rule over the land. I have curved out my place here amongst your people and the nobles in a miraculous amount of time as a newcomer to Celadon. I have already helped many of the poorest families in this kingdom by offering many of them work on my fleets, something I acquired while I have been here might I add. I came up with new ideas to better this kingdom not only for the royal family to live more comfortably but for the citizens that make up this kingdom. Without them, there would be no kingdom for you to rule, without them, you would not be breathing I'm afraid." Her words were harsh, precise, and unfaltering as the words slowly reentered her frazzled mind and the queen inside of her took hold. "You citizens are responsible for the protection, the wealth, the food, the clothing, and the very building you live in. They are the foundation of this kingdom and there should be someone representing them rather than a councilor representing themselves. After all the council is supposed to be for the betterment of the kingdom, and again, there is no kingdom without its people. So I shall make it clear once more. I bring the ideas that I grew up with from one of the best kingdoms in the world and now lay down my servitude at the feet of this kingdom. My loyalty to Celadon will show in my work for both the people and the royal court." She would let that fierce emerald gaze move from the King to the Queen before she stepped back in line.

The muscles in her throat tightened as silence fell upon the room, the tension so thick she felt she could reach out and grab it. The shock lingered for some more time before finally with a clearing of his throat the king would address the room as a whole. "Those in favor of Lady Nox to take the seventh seat of the noble council say I."

The statement and anticipation of the I's could have made her faint, but no sooner than he finished saying I the room roared with dozens of I's yelling out wanting to be heard, pleading for a miracle. A smile caressed her lips and a tear slipped down her cheek when she heard it, the tension cracking her otherwise calm demeanor. "No hurdles to jump through, it's almost too good to be true." She whispered back to Adon who grinned at her but didn't speak.

"It's settled then. Lady Nox will take the Seventh Seat of the Noble Council. I would like to go over some stipulations that will need to be fixed before she takes the full position so listen up Lady Nox."

Eagerly she would nod her head and smile at him, another tear going down her cheek out of happiness, and would step forward. "Y-Yes, your Highness. Do proceed you have my undivided attent-"

Interrupting Lucia the doors would burst open and a guard from outside would shout. "Halt the meeting. There is news! The arrival of the son of Lord [Insert Y/C Last Name] is here!" He would step to the side to allow the man to enter, many gasps were heard and whispering would start. Lucia would let her gaze move from the King and Queen to the man who had just been ushered in as if he was of some importance. She was unaware of what this meant to her getting the position she longed for.
