Been having an idea to get back into Star Wars writing. While there are plenty of good stories centered around the Clone Wars, Galactic Civil War (Rebels vs Empire), and even some branching into beyond, what if we take it a step waaaaaay back. "Are you walking about KOTOR?!" No. I'm talking further back. Back nearly 7,000 BBY (Before Battle of Yavin as seen in Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope)
The Jedi Order are a series of space monks studying the Force. The Light side aspect of the Force has been identified by the name Ashla. However there are brother and sister Jedi who have recognized a darker aspect named Bogan. Many of the Followers of Bogan see themselves as explorers of the Great Mystery of the Force. They are unlocking vast powers that allow them to fulfill their Jedi mandate to serve and protect. Those without the Force look to the Jedi as protectors do they not? The Followers of Ashla see their brothers and sisters as misguided and possibly dangerous. Some of the older Masters remember the Great Schism some 17,000 years prior. When a man named Xendor delved into such darker aspects and rebelled against the Jedi Order with his own group - The Legions of Lettow.
Now there are a number of influential Jedi who subscribe to this possibly dangerous aspect. Among them are Baron Dreypa - an Admiral of the Corellian fleet, Karness Muur a brilliant tactician who learned to use the Force to influence the tide of battle - emboldening allies while discouraging enemy forces. Another Jedi Master, Sorzus Syn helped start the AgriCorps - a place where those without enough command of the Force to become Jedi instead use it to grow better crops in food production. Sorzus has recently become fascinated by a new area of power - intense focus of the Force suitable to bend life itself to create new creatures. Jedi Master Ajunta Pall and Marchioness Xo Xaan have returned from the newly discovered worlds of Axxila, Taris, and Thustra. Both helped the Jedi Order set up a world library on Obroa-Skai making it a Sister-planet to another world Jedi Library on Ossus. While grateful for the duo's efforts, the Jedi are also alarmed by Ajunta and Xo's explorations into the power of Bogan.
The Jedi Council, no longer able to stomach the practice of Bogan, formerly reprimands these followers and demands their return to the light of Ashla. The Second Great Schism followed.
The Jedi battled their former comrades until the final contest at the Battle of Corbos. The Second Great Schism was a revelation for the Jedi and the Dark Jedi. The Dark Jedi learned how to create Leviathans - life forms mutated into great beasts able to swallow life essences and store these energies into skin-blisters. These Leviathans could then grow larger and consume more life. It was a horror beyond imagining for the Jedi and a demonstration of the depravity of the Dark Legion. With Lightsaber points at their backs, the 12 surviving Dark Jedi - among them Ajunta Pall, Xo Xaan, Sorzus Syn, Karness Muur, and Dreypa were cast into exile. The Dark Jedi were sent on a galleon freighter and sent past the borders of civilization into what was considered a certain death.
The Dark Jedi soon come upon the Stygian Caldera, a region of space that scrambles hyperspace navigation systems. Through a series of blind hyperspace jumps and Dreypa's command of the Force, these exiles stumble upon a world called Korriban. and it's primitive, red-skinned inhabitants called the Sith led by their king Hakagram Graush
Some notes I wish to share
There are no "Darth" titles here. The Jedi and Dark Jedi have only just begun to explore the power of the Force so over-the-top displays of power are few and far-between. Given what we know of the Dark Side, its power is seductive and flows easier. The Light side is zealously guarded to ensure no hints of darkness. Therefore, the Dark Jedi are able to gain deeper insights faster than their Jedi counterparts.
Lightsabers are around! However the technology is still very new and they have cords stretching from the bottom of the handle to a battery pack typically carried on the waist. The Dark Jedi were only able to smuggle one of these weapons with them into exile.
Many of the worlds we are familiar with in Star Wars have not yet been discovered. Kashyyyk and many other worlds have not even been discovered as of yet. Galactic Civilization only extends a little way out from the galactic core. Hutt Space is recognized but few outsiders have ventured there.
My question to you dear reader, is where should we begin our story? My idea is the settling of Sith Space with these Dark Jedi and their explorations of this region of space and the mysteries of Bogan. This would mean the story centers around Dark Jedi and the Sith Civilization, the Republic and light Jedi would likely not be covered. I say likely because there are MANY hyperspace explorers in the Republic. For these people, the idea of discovering the unknown and claiming all the riches found is alluring. Even if there's a good chance they'll fly right into a star instead. Is it possible an explorer happens across the Dark Jedi and Sith Space? Yes. But the Stygian Caldera is considered a barrier and is usually avoided.
The Rakatan Empire ended some 17,000 years prior. The Zeffo Force Practicioners (as seen in the game Jedi: Fallen Order) also disappeared around that time. The idea of this is to see who may be interested in this story. The named characters are only 5 and they are pretty much blank slates but here is a brief overview:
(L-R) Marchioness Xo Xaan, Sorzus Syn, Ajunta Pall, and Dreypa
High General Ajunta Pall - considered the leader of the Dark Jedi. A great warrior and famed negotiator. Yet his leadership is counterbalanced by the others who have powers he does not. He does succeed in killing the Sith King and the other Exiles become his Shadow Hands with himself as the first Dark Lord of the Sith.
Marchioness XoXaan - Second only to Ajunta Pall. Former leader of the Black Legion. Skilled in healing. At some point is christened as the first of the Sith Lords
Sorzus Syn - Specializes in the creation of monsters and life itself via Alchemy.
Baron Dreypa - Former Admiral. Very skilled in space travel and a Dark Lord in his practice of the Force. Exploration of the other Sith Worlds will likely fall upon him.
Karness Muur- Pioneered Jedi Battle Meditation and is likely looking at variations of this offered by the Dark Side.
These are only 5, there are 7 others we know nothing about. Perhaps one of them has a story you wish to tell? These Exiles are initially resisted by the Sith people. But after the death of their king, they are subjugated and regard the Dark Jedi as gods.
I am open to all questions and comments regarding this thread. Yes, I know they are seen with at least two lightsabers, Ajunta Pall with one, Sorzus Syn has the other. Perhaps they are able to reverse engineer the lone lightsaber they came with? Many questions, many stories we can tell!
