It is assumed that people who have shown an aptitude towards magic go through normal high school. This is so they can pass as a human. University is really where they learn to use their talents.
A campus located in rural Australia where those who are sensitive to the forces that be go to learn.
Not all the students are human. All sorts of intelligent creatures come to the University, from Werewolves to Fairy folk. Anyone can take part in the four year course. There are post graduate studies you can do as well to further you development of magical powers.
Students are to live on Campus in student run dorm buildings that are often bigger on the inside tha on the outside.
The University wants to encourage independence so they rarely step in outside of teaching.
What fields of study are there?

  • Abjuration. Defensive magic. Spells thay grant protection of various kinds, prevent other beings from entering an area, force armor, purification and force fields. This is a required for first years.
  • Alchemy. the mystic and scientific pursuit of the power of the Philosopher's Stone and Universal Panacea, focusing on Elemental Transmutation(ranging from transforming base materials into purer (lead or iron into silver or gold), creating golems to making permanent changes on the state of matter (making glass malleable or durable), etc.), various forms of Elemental Manipulation (especially electricityand fire) and Life-Force Manipulation(Immortality, Healing and even creating life or at the least clones/homunculi). It is covered in first and second year, with a third and fourth year elective. You only learn how to make a homunculi in fourth year.
  • Art Magic. A way to invoke spells through artistic expression. Is predominately used for conjugation and divination. Is touched on in the Forst Year core class, it is an elective for third and fourth years.
  • Astrology. To tap into the mystic energy found in astronomical concepts/phenomena. It is used purely in divination until fourth year. This is an elective all the way through.
  • Body Magic. Perform a form of magic that allows them to cast magical spells feats that can manipulate or use the body and it's parts. This includes sub sects like blood magic. It is not offered until third year as an elective.
  • Card Magic. A form of magic dealing with cards. They can use cards to achieve a variety of effects from summoning weapons, placing traps and use other forms of magic through cards. They can predict the future through cards and even trap people inside of cards. Prediction is covered in first year, with binding spells to cards done in the second semester. Second year you learn how to store simple inanimate objects. With covering more advanced concepts in third and fourth years.
  • Dueling. Offered to all year levels, being required for first years, but optional for everyone else.
  • Elemental Magic. Utilise different elements as a form of magic. They can use different spells to formulate their elemental quantities and energies for many uses. It is offered from second year onwards as a required subject.
  • Illusion-casting. Perform the most common tricks or the most powerful illusionary spells. They can perform vanishing acts, pull dozens of scarfs out of their mouths, or even create conjuring spells from various bizarre spells.
  • Medical Magic. magic that revolves around medicine/medical applications and feats, such as blood clotting/transfusions, organ transplants, surgery, bone setting, disinfection, biopsies/cell culturing, stitching, immuno-suppression, etc. to various degrees.

cool. just fill out the following sheet to create a character. I may add things to it later, but that should be enough for now.

This sounds very interesting. How many people are you wanting before the RP starts?

Four classes per semester would be the average. You could study less per semester and study part-time, or more if they sacrifice their social life and extracurricular. I'd say a minimum of one per semester, and a maximum of five subjects, excluding the core subject that everyone must take. Also, that list is just to give ideas, you can make up your own as long as it doesn't become too overpowered.

Do you have a character created that we could look at for a reference? What kind of interactions would you be looking for between characters?

Not yet. I'm just working out the kinks in his backstory.
As for interactions, I would like to follow our characters as they show up on the first day of the year (they don't need to be first years), and watch them meet old friends, make new ones. Some key things will be extra curricular activities such as duel club, or maybe a team based magic sport, the college parties, and maybe the some of the classes.

Sounds good! I have a character that I like to adapt for different situations. I'll throw her down for this one!

Name: Kaida Shiro

Age: 75 years, looks 22. Granted human form at 56 years old.

Race: Kitsune, a Japanese fox-demon

Ethnicity: Japanese/Caucasian

Year Level: 1

Classes: Abjuration, Dueling, Illusion, Symbiotic

Bio:
Kaida is a fox-demon, estranged from her parents at 5 years old. She was born in the United States as a fox cub, and, as typical for her race, she did not manifest her human form until around 50 years of age. Specifically, she did not understand the transformation until she was 56. At this time she began to mature as any young human would, albeit with a bit of help from her 56 years as a fox.
This is her first year at the school, having only discovered it recently. In her eyes, it was the only place where she could learn to control her powers, in the absence of both of her parents. Up until now, she had been simply roaming various countries, stowing away on cargo ships when she got bored of her current surroundings.

Other: As a fox-demon, Kaida retains the ability to transform between both her fox self and human self freely. Her fox self, still being young, only has two tails. This means that her supernatural powers are actually quite limited and unstable. With bursts of sudden emotion she may see unpredictable bursts of power.
She also carries around a single pearl with her everywhere she goes. This pearl is an onyx color and has a silvery sheen of light that it constantly emits. As both a human and a fox the pearl can be seen worn as an earring at the base of her right ear.

  • Alchemy - First Year - Semesters 1&2
  • Alchemy - Second Year - Semesters 1&2
  • Alchemy - Third Year - Starting
  • Card Magic - First Year - Semester 1
  • Astrology - First Year - Semester 2
  • Astrology - Second Year - Semesters 1&2
  • Astrology - Third Year - Starting

  • Duelling - Second Year - Semesters 1&2
  • Duelling - Third Year - Starting
  • Medical Magic - Second Year - Semesters 1&2
  • Body Magic - Third Year - Starting
Bio: Thomas Hunter is from a long line of mages. Thomas was born and raised in Far North Queensland, Australia. Ironically, the hunter bloodline was actually Garou. A form of werewolf. When he was eighteen, his bloodline came under attack. Something about the council in Australia deeming arcane Garou a threat to the natural order. In order to escape, Thomas's father gave him the Spirit wolf wand and sent him to the University, where he was protected under his rights as a student.
Other:
  • Homid is the human form, completely indistinguishable from other humans in most cases.
  • Glabro is the "near-human" form, one that is described as resembling a prehistoric human, although slightly taller than their human form.
  • Crinos is the monstrous form resembling a traditional werewolf, usually growing to nine feet tall and made of pure muscle. This form is what most Garou prefer to fight in.
  • Hispo is a massive dire wolf-like form, usually preferred by Lupus Garou for fighting.
  • Lupus is the wolf form, granting certain abilities that stem from the wolf's greater senses than that of humans.

||Notice: @Phantom your character has been accepted. It looks good. Welcome to the university. ||
//EDIT has been made to the first post. Abjuration is now required for first years. I thought this was logical because the university wants the students to be safe, so they are required to at least know how to protect themselves if the need arises. \\
\\If ANYONE has any ideas on what the university should actually be called, feel free to post your suggestions. //

Name: Taylor Cain
Age: 19
Race: half-human half-fairy
Year Level: 1
Classes:
  • Abjuration - First year - starting
  • illusion-casting - First year - starting
  • shamanism - First year- starting
Bio: she enrolled to the university when she found out that her father wasn't actually human and that she was unstable. She wanted to reject studying there but in honor of her late mother's wishes, she complied.
Other: For a half-fairy, she leans more to her human side; being mostly sarcastic in her life and logical for most things even with the supernatural things going on around her. She is ashamed of her father leaving her mother thus very happy when she is unable to inherit her father's ability to manipulate water and wind.
