I've stood upon your hardened floor,
Soaked in your light,
Embraced the adoration of those who celebrate the wonders you exhibit.
But I prefer the shadows,
Behind the crowds and velvet cushions,
Where all that you display is plucked by my fingers, calloused and bloody.
The pictures in my head are birthed upon you,
The sounds I imagine echo to your rafters,
And the players you shelter are guided by my voice to discover something yet unknown.
Four score individuals of unbridled creativity unite,
Raucous cheers and quaking applause fill your walls.
From the darkness, I smile.
