Autumnal The Haunted House Escape - OPEN - Anyone can join in at any time!

You unfold the paper under the light of the closet and it reads:

The First stirs up the sleeping green,
The Second heats the summer scene.
The Third brings leaves of gold and red,
The Fourth puts snowy fields to bed.
The Fifth is born before midnight chimes
Align the numbers of the times.

(( Tell my kids to go to bed faster. LOL Sass the pfp slayed me! ))

Most of the coat pockets only have small pieces of lint in them, however, there is one in particular that has an envelope with a post stamp on the outside and the name Henry Boyd on the front with the current address of the house you're stuck inside of.

The envelope has a card in it, and four dollars slide out onto the floor of it before you get to read what is inside.

Wine stashes the money away before anyone can think anything of it, and hey, maybe she can buy a candy bar or two later! Inflation, amirite??

The frames, when carried into the light, reveal 5 pictures of the same man with various family members. Maybe it's Henry, who knows? They're a bit dusty, some more than others.

- One photo is of the man in a suit, wearing bunny ears. There are dyed eggs and baskets with two kids laughing.

- Another is the man and a woman with silly framed glasses that say 2008 and champagne flutes at night, a digital display says 8 in the background.

- There is a photo with the man sitting beside a decorated tree. Presents are on the ground and colorful lights twinkle. It looks like there's a finger streak through the dust that is a straight line going down the glass.

-Another picture has the man sitting in front of a cake, there are candles on it and people are wearing party hats.

-The last picture frame has heavier dust build up as well, and the number 8 on the glass. The photo behind it has children in costume and the man walking beside them with a pumpkin shaped bucket.

theory:
bunny ears -> spring ("sleeping green")? - The First
2008 -> new years countdown (?) ("before midnight chimes") - The Fifth
decorated tree -> christmas - "snowy fields", The Fourth
pumpkin -> fall, "leaves of red and gold", The Third
birthday -> process of elimination, The Second... A summer birthday?

Not quite sure what it means exactly, but... I gave it a try to make the connections.

And maybe there's clues for the numbers in the photos as well...might be too on the nose but worth a shot!
  • Man in suit with bunny ears has two kids in the photo = 2
  • Silly framed glasses with 8 in the background = 8
  • Man sitting besides tree with a single finger streak in the dust = 1
  • Man with cake and candles but we don't know how many = ?
  • Children in costume with the number 8 = 8

This is what I was thinking too!

Yesss, count dem candles~

Huh. We haven't opened that envelope yet? Good call. (Damn, the four dollars really overshadowed the possible clues in the envelope lol). Also, maybe take a look closer outside the envelope too, to see the current address? Might have numbers, might be useful (or not), who knows?

The candles could also produce double digits, which would make the overall code 6 digits long, buuuuuut there's nothing saying the keypad needs a certain amount of digits. Quick! Rime! Someone! Go HuHuHuHuHu to the keypad to see how many digits we need!

Firefly skillfully avoids all potential ghosts in the dark as she huffs into the closet. She runs across the hard floors where the poor rug once was, one of the boards shifts and creaks under her foot as she goes. The light flickers as if warning the group it won't last forever.

The photo of the birthday shows two blocky number candles that are facing the man, you can't see the outlines, but it seems evident enough that they're a 3 and then 2.

If I counted correctly, five people have done actions since my first action sooo...

[[ @Jumbled Action: I notice that the sole light is starting to flicker, and recall there are still things I wish to read, before it's too late. I grab the pile of old mail from the closet, and immediately start searching for anything useful. Also, a screwdriver might come in handy later, so I slip it into a pocket.]]

Other things we might want to look at, before we lose the light source:
  • envelope and card from the jacket pocket
  • maybe also try and remove the pictures from their frames and see if there's anything on the back?
Also - possible combinations:
232818
223818

(Alternatively, if we're only meant to take one digit from the birthday photo:)
23818
22818

Though I think I would personally hold off on attempting the keypad - because what if there's limited attempts??? And we might still be missing puzzle pieces.

The screwdriver is tucked away safely for the group to use if an occasion presents itself.

Most of the mail in the box is typical. Some old bills, mainly sheets of coupons that are expired. But at the bottom of the box is a mini envelope that holds a key inside. There's nothing written to indicate where it goes, but the small size suggests that it probably belongs to a standard padlock.

Sorry y’all midnight snacks had me stuffing my face with all the delightful pastries

—wipes powdered sugar off face—

Now where were we?

[[ @Jumbled Action: After rummaging around the box, I come across an envelope and thus a key that has been revealed. After I admire how shiny and antique it seems to be—but also know it’s important—I clutch it tight in the palm of my hand . Then I start to wander through the halls to find exactly where this padlock could be located ]]
