The door code blinks red after Wine's attempt.

The door rattles like someone...
or something...
is shaking it angrily in an attempt to scare you away from trying again.

The door shaking grows more urgent with every key press, then as stops suddenly as the last number is entered.

The keypad flashes green and a mechanical turning of a bolt inside the door sounds as the door to the next room is unlocked!

YOU GUYS DID IT!
CONGRATULATIONS ON CLEARING ROOM ONE: THE ENTRYWAY.

Room 2: The Grand Livingroom

Leaving the entryway behind, the group moves inward, finding a large central sitting room and a grand staircase hugging the right side of the wall in an elegant curve. Or at least, it would be elegant… if it wasn’t falling apart.

The railings are broken and missing in some areas, and the middle section of the stairs has a gaping hole where the steps should be. Three large portraits hang up along the wall but access to them is very limited.

Floating above the staircase are the 3 missing wooden planks, glowing in a seafoam green aura that seems to suspend them.

This looks incredibly dangerous!

At the base of the staircase sits a stone gargoyle on a pillar.

Turning back to the door you came from, you see that the wallpaper is slashed up like a large animal gashed its claws into it.

Looking to the immediate left and right sides after entering, there are passages that take one further into the house, but they are completely covered in that same glowing green color as the floating steps. Is it a barrier, or just a trick of some lights? The space is tinted in a sickly film, casting an eerie drop in temperature wherever the light touches.

The sitting room has two matching sofas that are gothic, both have standing lamps beside them. There is a coffee table in the center of the room with a decorative box on top of it.

A bookshelf is near the seating area, most of the books are scattered around on the ground in front of it while some are laying on the shelf.

A desk and a chair are nearby against the wall.

The group enter the room with flashlight still on. One approaches the gargoyle.

He looks like a horned dog with wings,
not the most scary of things.
His podium is odd, you see three square holes down the mass,
the slots a puzzle you’ll want to solve fast.

Or slow... it just sounded cooler that way.

The gargoyle crouches on top of his pillar, the base is the beginning of the stair's railing. He's carved from wood and polished to perfection.
The pillar is also wooden with lines framing it delicately on each side for a minimalist design.

The holes are three: top, middle, and bottom.

Slots for something, or just a strange design choice?

[[ @Jumbled Action: While Firefly is being a lay-day, I'm going to attempt to CAREFULLY go up the stairs to try viewing the closest portrait.]]

Firefly moves through the chilly space, acting super chill herself as she walks past creepy green barriers of spooky magical-- something. She finds a seat on one of the couches, reaches for the lamps, and this time, she tries the light with no panic, and it clicks on without an issue.

The room is filled with more light, it's helpful, especially as she eyes the box on the table. It looks like it might be something a person would use to store jewelry. There is a tiny gold latch in the front center. The box is a dark mahogany on the outside.

Grem uses the stairs as carefully as she can, getting a glance at the first portrait. It is massive and features the same man from the photos in the first room, but he looks older now. A gold plaque under this painting has the engraving: Henry Boyd.

The books are a mess on the floor, and they're sitting in different positions as if they were tossed around carelessly.

Upon closer inspection of the piles, you can see that many of them are thick thesaurus volumes. There are other smaller books around, but it all seems overwhelming.

You do spot something of note on the floor, some of the books seem to have fallen onto an object- maybe a box or step stool, it's not yet easy to make out.

You look at the shelf- you could clean up the mess, but since there are only five volumes of thesauruses left on the bookcase it will take a bit of time to tidy up the chaos.
