You pick up the journal and unravel the cord holding it shut.
The pages are filled with Henry's writing.

One passage states:

I'm so proud of my darling Loretta's successful trip to Transylvania! She completely devastated a Duke's bloodline and brought home the loveliest mirror as a souvenir.

The book is full of little praises like this about his wife and her successes, his thoughts and feelings, and even some poetry. It's Henry's personal journal. You can tell he was very in love with his wife. It goes on like this for many pages.

Rei searches the rest of the desk and finds an old pen and some paperclips scattered around in the dust of the abandoned drawers.

I found $4... what happens if we pay it? Does all the haunted nonsense just come to an end??

 

[Jumbled]

Yeah, totally. Go for it. >.> What could go wrong?!

 

[Sonder_]

Since we still have other escape rooms, I'm not sure whether giving $4 right now is the correct option... I think the key still lies within the last wooden block, but I have no idea where it is. I'll try examining the portraits closer and shining UV light on it to see if I can find clues, or other UV clues in the room.

The temperament of the ghost seems agitated and as Sonder nears Henry's portrait on the stairs, it appears again with a screech.

Everyone gets a good look at this ghost: she's a woman with wispy white hair and flowing robes. She is wearing two ruby earrings, which look very familiar. From everyone's glances at the hanging portraits from afar, she seems to carry a resemblance to the woman standing next to Henry in the middle photo. And the woman standing solo in the topmost frame.

Sonder, already eaten by an umbrella, seems more susceptible to the paranormal attacks of this house, and goes flying all the way to the back wall where the wallpaper is shredded and peeling back. She's a tough cookie, but maybe someone should go help her up.

(quick, someone go investigate the wallpaper! also maybe try to remove the painting(s) to see if there's a hidden cache?)

Rei over here trying to get someone hunted by the ghost real hard.

Alex taunts the ghost with $4, and she appears before him, swiping at the bills in his hand as if she hoped to grab them. Her hand passes right through the money and Alex's arm, sending a cold blast down his body. She screams angrily and some of the books that are scattered on the floor go flying around the room before she disappears.

Tor gets Sonder to her feet and then stares at the wallpaper, noticing some of the gash marks seem to reveal lettering behind it, like someone tried to stick the pieces back over a message.

He begins to tear at the hanging remains of wallpaper until he can see a message.

The beast left its marks, but the block remains whole,
Somewhere deep in the fluff where the dust bunnies stroll.

(Riddles, Im bad at those haha. I think it means, we ought to check the right desk drawer, the couch, the floor? Maybe the corners of the room?)
