As the months grow colder, light a fire and pick up your quill.

Good Evening Sanctum,
Tonight, we're proud to announce a new sitewide event. Led by our own @GremlinSage, during the month of November, we will be giving writers a platform to write their solo stories, to track their progress and to meet their own writing goals, whatever those may be. We're announcing things well in advance so, for those who want to participate, everything can hit the ground running come November 1st.

For anyone who wants the full details, see Grem's thread in the a subforum created specifically for the project. Please direct any inquiries to her or ask them below.

But in brief? (as brief as I ever am)

The idea is simple. Come November, you set a writing goal—be that daily, weekly or for the whole month—and you start writing a brand new story. Topic, genre, everything is up to you, the only limits are Sanctum rules regarding violence against minors. You track your progress and engage with others doing the same. At the end of the month, you'll have a completed work, be it a short story or a full-blown novella.

Oh and of course, for the fun of it, we'll have badges provided for participation from @Jumbled and @firefly

From me, that's all folks! From all of you, I look forward to seeing your work,

James

Still annoyed that Nanowrimo shut down even though that site changed in time and not had much luck yet finding something like Nano for november. (Like how they changed the word count tracker day to day personally). So, this sounds interesting to occupy my time with, what with replies being slow for me. Thx to the boss @JamesMartin, @GremlinSage and other staff for coming up with something possibly fun.

Everyone's talking abt NaNoWriMo. Is that some kind of site that does these challenges or smth? I'm prolly too young to know what that is. Diff gen ig, haha
It used to be a big global writing site called NaNoWriMo — short for National Novel Writing Month. There were forums (before they took those out), regional groups where you could meet people in your area for writing help, and local events or seminars run by regional MLs (Municipal Liaisons).

The main event was every November, when writers tried to draft a 50,000-word novel in just one month. There were also smaller “Camp NaNo” sessions in July and August, which were more relaxed. The site hosted pep talks from famous authors, let you track your word count online, and gave everyone a space to cheer each other on and share progress.

It eventually shut down due to financial issues and controversy over allowing AI-written stories on the platform April 2025. But for a long time, it was one of the biggest online writing communities in the world — full of energy, creativity, and camaraderie.
